  1. Well we are using glucose plus EGCG (green tea compound) which is supposed to stimulate insulin release. So we have glucose at say, 3, 5, 11, 16, and 20 mM. Then we add EGCG or do not add it to each glucose concentration. I don't know where my PI got the beta cells from, some acquaintence at a university I think. What do you mean by how were they characterized.
  2. Hi all I work with INS1E cells, a beta cell line, for insulin secretion studies. My experiment is to give each well of cells an increasing amount of glucose, and in theory the beta cells should release increasing amounts of insulin. However my results have been inconsistent even with careful attention to every step. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this problem occurs?
  3. Hi... So, this is strange but... I performed an insulin assay (ELISA), which included supernatant from INS1E cells (they are pancreatic beta cells derived from tumor). I dropped the plate after I measured the insulin, it splattered and some liquid splashed into my mouth (I know, ew...but only a tiny drop). Anyway, the MSDS said the chemicals in it can cause minor mucous membrane irriatation, and I didn't even notice that. I was scared because the supernatant was derived from rat tumor...is there any possibility that can transform into cancer?
  4. So I have this instruction sheet: stock is 2mg/ml it says for a concentration of 4 ug/ml, use 2 ul stock plus 48 ul water. how did they do this calculation?
  5. Hi all, Unfortunately I never was really taught some math skills I need to know..my high school teacher was fired in the middle of the year and never was replaced with a good teacher..I'm not happy about that because I get so confused with basic math skills. For example, now I do research in a lab for a summer job and can do the experiments just fine but get stuck for a long time on stupid math problems! Anyone have an easy way of explaining these things? Or a book that teaches it? I get stuff like what a mole is (concentration of mass/volume) but have trouble when it comes to making stock solutions from the basic material, serial dilutions, all kinds of stuff. It's frustrating, please help.
