Hello, Is it possible that some one would be willing to proof read my paper Hari
-
Thanks for the answer. I am just going to ignore cold fusion then.

Okay I have done some research today and I think I will mainly focus on the magnetic containment technique with the Tokamak instead of the inertial containment. Would I be allowed to start a thread in the Modern and Theoretical Physics section about nuclear fusion or would that break some rules? I also read a while ago about some Italian physicists achieving cold fusion does anyone know if that turned out to be a hoax or not? I have been googleing it today to but with little success. All i heard was that they apparently sold one unit but there still was no definite proof that it worked. Does anyone know anymore? Cheers, Hari Seldon

It is a research papaer and the topic is pretty open to us I wanted to do mine on a current issue which I choose the need for cleaner energy supply for the world. I wanted my main focus to be on nuclear fusion but I also want it to be all encompassing on different energy sources(like solar, geothermal, and so on) and to add some originality to mine over others who might also choose alternate energies i thought i would mention some more exotic ones like vacuum energy. The build up of it is pretty open too I was thinking of at first shortly covering all the possibilities for the different alternate energies there are and then dive in, in detail on nuclear power and then dismissing the possibility of fission because of this and then move onto fusion how it is one of the more realistic ones that could provide the greatest gain in energy for the least pollution. And I was thinking of then in my conclusion mention exotic alternate energy that could be obtainable in the future to supply the energy we need. But so far the above is only and idea since I am not 100% sure if fusion is the best alternative so the above plan might change a bit. Sorry if my first post was a bit vague. Sincerely, Hari Seldon

Thank you very much for your help so far. I have not yet had the time to Google all the things. I assume I will do that tomorrow. Riot aren't perpetual motion machines impossible beccause of the laws of thermodynamics? I was thinking is it worth mentioning Vacuum energy as an alternative that might become a realistic alternative in the future? I just got the idea because some how the Casimir Effect came to my mind in a day dream. Again I would like to thank Riot and Brainteaserfan(you have an alleviation for your name?) for their help so far. Cheers, Hari Seldon

Hey, I have to write a research paper on alternate energy sources for school. I was thinking of going out of the box and go with nuclear energy as a alternate energy source. Ofcourse nuclear fission is not a realistic, I already know that much about a article I read on physorg.com, but I was wondering if nuclear fusion is a valid alternative. Since this is a research paper I would prefer that you don't give me the answer or that would defeat the purpose of the research part in the assignment . I am wondering though if some one could lead me to a website that focuses on the nuclear fusion and how it is used to produce energy. I am only a high school student and we don't get theses kind of things thought yet and it is not one of the subjects i have been reading books on. I have already looked for such a website but I have found little that I found useful to me. I am just asking if anyone knows good website that has this information, no need for you to actual search for one I don't want you to do the work for me. The assignment is due in a couple of weeks and once I have a solid draft of my research paper is anyone willing to review it? It isn't against the rules or anything we can also hand it in to our teacher early that she reviews it but I thought I would also get more than one person to just review it and I thought the people on SFN might be a good choice to also review it. I would like to thank everyone who has even looked at this post and wanted to help me for taking your time to do so. I really appreciate it. Sincerely, Hari Seldon

Just throwing in my comment also make sure what ever system you use has a quality hard drive in it or else it is useless with today's trend of cheap electronics that have little to no build quality you should go for a brand I like Western Digital and LaCie(they have a variety of different drives on the inside but always good quality) Hari

I know this is a bit of an old thread but try Calibre to convert ebooks and http://www.gutenberg.org/ to get some good ebooks for free, all of the books on there the copyright has expired. Hope this helps

I would recommend pandora by far the best thing there is. And just use a proxy like ultrasurf if you are not in their allowed to view it beccause of where you live

a bit of a sexists joke but pretty funny Yesterday, scientists in the United States revealed that beer contains small traces of female hormones. To prove their theory, they fed one hundred men twelve pints of beer and observed that 100% of them started talking nonsense and couldn't drive.

I also like to read but not just history I like to read pretty much anything although mainly non fiction and science fiction. I have been wanting to tackle The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire for a while now, I downloaded it a while back. Have you ever read the Books?

I don't really care how I die painful or peaceful, as long as I die happy and with the feeling of accomplishment and closure.

I believe that most likely the exact same number of good things happen to you as bad things do. I always try to look at the bright side of everything. I have lived on 3 different continents and I have experienced so many different cultures, it is almost bordering on the impossible considering I am 18 years old. That is the bright side of things. However I could look at it like this I have had to move twice always leaving all my friends behind and having to start from new, to make new friends that would be the bad side of life. But I choose to focus on the good side of life because in the end how you experience life is just a choice of your perspective. I choose to pay attention to the good things in life and try to make the bad things into good things as much as possible. For example today I bought a packet of chips and it had double the amount of chips in then it was supposed too. This will cheer me up for the res of the week and just make all of the bad things happening this week seem not so bad. I also don't think suicide is ever an option. It is actually avoiding the problem. As for us expecting the worst again it depends on your view. Of course we can also let some of our fears just rule over our life. I for example have a fear of heights but I always try to face that fear, for example recently I helped a friend set up speakers on a roof to help me face my fear. Just my 2 cents. Hari

The Official "Introduce Yourself" Thread
Hari Seldon replied to Radical Edward's topic in The Lounge
Hey, I just signed up and as the automated welcome PM suggested I am here to introduce myself. I am a 18 year old student in my last year of school. I currently live in Johannesburg South Africa. How ever I was born in Switzerland where I live until I was twelve at that point I moved to Southern California, until about 2 years ago when I moved to South Africa. Neither my German or English is perfect so I do apologize in advance for any spelling and grammar mistakes, I do use Firefox and its spell check function. I want to study physics in Switzerland at ETH after this year but not sure if I will get in since I am a bit under motivated when it is concerned to school work. I am actually doing this now instead of homework. I like physics and also developing an interest in philosophy(just started reading A Treatise of Human Nature by David Hume). I do however dislike chemistry and I am neutral towards math. Hari Seldon is not my real name but the name of a fictional charter in a series of novels. Well that is it from me. Sincerely, Hari Seldon
