9.8 is not the speed, it is the acceleration....
Potential energy at the top is equal to the kinetic energy at the bottom.
1/2 x m x v2 = mgh
Substitute and find v which is the speed of the ball at the bottom. Hope it helps...
Well...if u want to solve it then use the quadratic formula
OR
U could spilt the middle term such that the two values are equal to the product of the 3rd term and the sum is equal to that of the middle term......
It does get a little complicated sometimes.....but it is not that hard for this particular question though...
