Thanks for the link! And thanks for the reminder! I'll try to remember to remind myself to vote.
  3. That's very interesting -Usually, an accuser will have the courtesy to list the "multiple fallacies" of the accused. What are they? - And how might they, which must have taken place over 18 months ago (since I have been absent for over a year), have any relevance to THIS particular discussion? -A desire to "protect life" stands on its own merit. In contrast, not being to able to define when life begins, yet being willing to discard that which may or may not be a life is completely and totally illogical. It does not stand on its own merit and requires some substantiation. (eg,....'do no harm' stands on its own merit; while 'maybe do some harm and maybe not' requires a degree of substantiation....) "They" who? No matter who "they" are, anyway, *I'm all for it! Take however much of the Trillions of Dollars in my (and my childrens' childrens' childrens') account that is necessary and apply it to health care for children and also for prenatal care. As well as for foster care and for adoptive services. I believe that it will be money will spent. Again, "they" who? "They" are everywhere. Unfortunately most people that I have heard try to make this weakest of weak arguments are too ignorant to know the difference between haploid and diploid. The sad part is, you do know the difference; and yet you still try to make it. Speaking of fallacies and unsubstantiated arguments, this one MUST rank in the top ten of all time. You must entertain my curiosity and post (verifiable) data to support this argument. How many women actually died or fell critically ill as a result of "back alley abortions" when abortion was illegal? Beyond the falsehood of the whole premise, it is about as logical as 'crack should be legal, because if it is not legal, then somebody will be forced to break the law and therefore, they will end up smoking some bad crack'. It is my own body after all, so if I put crack in it, the government should keep me legal AND safe. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged I didn't take offense to anything you or anyone else has said. Although, I'm absolutely certain that your intentions (and iNow's, Dudde's, Sisyphus', ydoaPs', bascule's, Mokele's, Snail's, The Bear's Key's..., intentions.....I've left someone off I'm sure....sorry...) are noble, I just know that you're dead wrong on this one. And how could I (take offense)? Unlike a fetus, you're just pixelated text staring back at me through the ether.

?? To the best of knowledge, nobody has asked me or is going to be asking me to participate. Unless perhaps someone's interpretation of my participation is something along the lines of: ....'here read this, this is where we decided to throw your tax dollars and the debt that your childrens' children will be paying for'........ Do you actually consider that an invitation to participate? ??? again It does not make me angry. It does make me concerned. But if it did make me angry, don't I have that right??! Like the members of the House and Senate who voted for it, I have not read the whole thing. Off topic but another reason for a large amount of concern. And it may also make me lazy and/or have a job and/or a life.....you pick.
  5. I can not make any promises at this time. But, like your extremely negative, blunt and quite vocal opinions against religion, I do understand and appreciate your desire to see this debate take one and only one direction. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged Safer for who?

Thanks iNow!! For those who have not read that far....page332 refers to..... Subtitle B—Assistance for Vulnerable Individuals SEC. 2101. EMERGENCY FUND FOR TANF PROGRAM. I didn't know what TANF was, so I looked it up....... "Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program became the TANF Bureau within the Office of Family Assistance in May 2006." "Under the welfare reform legislation of 1996, (the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act – PWRORA – Public Law 104-193), TANF replaced the welfare programs known as Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), the Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training (JOBS) program and the Emergency Assistance (EA) program. The law ended federal entitlement to assistance and instead created TANF as a block grant that provides States, territories and tribes federal funds each year. These funds cover benefits, administrative expenses, and services targeted to needy families. TANF became effective July 1, 1997, and was reauthorized in February 2006 under the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005." http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/tanf/about.html It's $81,000,000,000 in Welfare to be given away as each state sees fit. I think. Anyone have a different perspective/interpretation?
  7. I'm not sure what point you will illustrate except perhaps that you have a strange appetite. Anyway, I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that this topic was specifically about rights of the fertilized egg/zygote/embryo/fetus (male or female)....not "women's rights". But since you mentioned it. I always have considered it odd that "women's rights" always get confused with and rolled into just about any discussion about the definition of when life begins or doesn't begin. I have always considered them to be completely separate issues, but admit that I generally seem to be in the minority in that view. For example, a component of "women's rights" 'may' be based on the rights of the fetus and when life begins or does not begin. However, in stark contrast, when life begins or does not begin should be able to stand alone and on it's own merit; without involving "women's rights". Even if you do not agree, do you see my point?
  8. Actually, it is relevant, because one is then forced to answer the unanswerable question that is so vigorously avoided: At precisely what point does that worthless thing end and the person begin? Edit: And I predict that this thread will soon end in doom.

What does "Protecting the Vulnerable" mean and why does it cost $81,000,000,000?
  10. One. It's about time.
  11. A "rabbit hole" is a "metaphor" actually; and an appropriate one, including, but not limited to when it is used to describe a portal into a different or a strange world.....which probably includes blogs/forums on the internet.
  12. yes, but now I'm starting to have second thoughts
  13. Sugars. And reverse polymerase coding sequences.
  14. Barack W Obama is sending 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan and he's probably going to use 'post 9-11 illegal' wiretapping tactics himself. Very depressing.
  15. Most people don't make an effort to learn anything substantial about their candidates and their respective platforms before they vote now. Practically speaking, what criteria do you anticipate that the (already uniformed) public are going to use to decide between a half dozen or more choices? Simply by the process of dilution, it would have to be comparatively less info about each candidate and their respective platforms, don't you think? Would not the messages, including the few good ones, get lost in the noise?
  16. Heck no! As is my money. Balanced equations: 2 NaN3 —> 2 Na + 3 N2 10 Na + 2 KNO3 —> K2O + 5 Na2O + more N2 K2O + Na2O + SiO2 —> alkaline silicate An (old design) air bag is filled with sodium azide (NaN3) and mixtures of potassium nitrate (KNO3) and silicon dioxide (SiO2). To initiate the reaction, a 12 volt output signal from the airbag control computer heats a resistive wire element which starts the exothermic chemical reaction. The initial reaction (heating sodium azide) forms sodium and hot nitrogen gas which inflates the airbag. 2 NaN3 —> 2 Na + 3 N2 Sodium from the first reaction and potassium nitrate generate additional nitrogen in the secondary reaction. 10 Na + 2 KNO3 —> K2O + 5 Na2O + N2 The previous two reactions leave potassium oxide and sodium oxide, which react with silicon dioxide forming silicate "glass". K2O + Na2O + SiO2 —> alkaline silicate BTW: I believe that some newer technologies don't even use sodium azide and I agree that the presence of the oxidizer should make the initial reaction go MUCH faster, but those are the equations.
  17. In many cases, you will reduce the total area of silicon needed to produce a given amount of electricity. So, lenses or mirrors are sometimes used to concentrate sun light on solar panels.
  18. The energy in a hydrogen explosion, per gram-mole of hydrogen, is –59.97 kcal. The energy released per mole of hydrazoic acid can be (-128.09/-57.79) ~ 2.2 times greater than from a hydrogen explosion. http://sti.srs.gov/fulltext/tr2000443/tr2000443.html I was incorrect about the airbag being deployed by HN3. But, it is heat, not shock that causes NaN3 to decompose; giving off N2 gas (see below). Not exactly. Not primarily at least.... The signal from the deceleration sensor ignites the gas-generator mixture by an electrical impulse, creating the high-temperature condition necessary for NaN3 to decompose. The nitrogen gas that is generated then fills the airbag. The purpose of the KNO3 and SiO2 is to remove the sodium metal (which is highly reactive and potentially explosive, as you recall from the Periodic Properties Experiment) by converting it to a harmless material. First, the sodium reacts with potassium nitrate (KNO3) to produce potassium oxide (K2O), sodium oxide (Na2O), and additional N2 gas. The N2 generated in this second reaction also fills the airbag, and the metal oxides react with silicon dioxide (SiO2) in a final reaction to produce silicate glass, which is harmless and stable. http://www.chemistry.wustl.edu/~edudev/LabTutorials/Airbags/airbags.html Here, another danger arises because if the NaN3 dissolves in water, it can form hydrazoic acid (HN3): NaN3 + H2O ---> HN3 + NaOH. HN3 is highly toxic, volatile (i.e., it becomes airborne easily), and explosive. http://www.chemistry.wustl.edu/~edudev/LabTutorials/Airbags/airbags.html Conclusion: We were all wrong (about at least one thing each).
  19. Yes I have and I like it very much. I probably would vote for someone that ran on a Granola-type (hard to chew, but better for the health of the country) ticket, as opposed to the more unhealthy Fruit Loop (eg, Democrat) ticket or Lucky Charms (eg, Republican) ticket, primarily for the reasons stated above. I don't understand your point. You want me to move to Canada? What advantage(s) does Canada have to offer?
  20. I've given this question some more thought and have come to a slightly different conclusion. I agree with Pangloss to a large degree........ I do not believe that the number of parties is necessarily the issue/problem. The, or at least an, important problem is, the choices that we are forced to choose from AND how the voting public chooses between those choices Problem with the Available Choices: Say I have researched and learned about different cereals. Then I go to the grocery looking for some healthy cereal; cereal that is high in nutritional value, containing no or few unnecessary additives, plenty of fiber, etc. But all I can find on the shelves are Lucky Charms and Fruit Loops. Brands that happen to be low in nutritional value and fiber, with many artificial additives, but high in flavor and sugar content (they give me my sugar fix and immediate gratification). I really want something else; something that is healthier for me and my family But the only choice I have is between Fruit Loops and Lucky Charms. Both of which are unacceptable in my knowledgeable and fact-based opinion. Problem with the Voters' Decision Making Process: If I go to the grocery with no knowledge about cereal nutrition, cost, taste, fiber content, etc and choose Fruit Loops because I always choose Fruit Loops and my father and grandfather always chose Fruit Loops; I believe that is a poor decision making process. I know many people that vote in this manner. In contrast, let's say that I have done some reading about different cereals and have compared several variables, including their nutritional values, cost, fiber content, and flavors. Then, armed with this information, I go to the grocery store and amongst the many choices (or perhaps even between 2 choices in a small store), I pick a cereal that has highest nutritional value, is low in cost, filled with healthy fiber and also has a flavor that me an family likes. In this case, I have certainly made a thoughtful and informed choice; and most likely a better choice for me and my family. Conclusion: If I have only 2 choices, I would like for at least one of those choices to be low in sugar and low in artificial ingredients. I would like for at least one of them to be "healthy" and be good for me and my family; for it/them to be filled with nutrition, whole grains, oats and fiber. Of course, more choices might be better, but more of the same is not of much use to me. In other words, Cap'n Crunch and it's counterparts are not good choices for me either. They have much the same nutritional value as Fruit Loops. In this case, 3 choices is not much better than 2. So, currently, I have only two poor choices to choose from; Fruit Loops and Lucky Charms. They are both making me and my family ill. And more sugary brands of cereal is not a solution.
  21. Depends on how big it is going to be I suppose..... I don't think that Styrofoam will hold up, even if painted or varnished. Painted/varnished soft wood (balsa?) probably.... But I strongly suggest that you go to your local hobby store and look around. See what is available and commonly used for flying things with whirling blades. Also, ask the guys there what they suggest.
  22. Perhaps Mr Obama doesn't want it investigated because he is planning to do it also.
  23. Anybody have an idea how many different political parties the Romans had?

    PH question

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. Can you rephrase it? PS: You will probably have greater success if you post in the Homework Help section.
  25. I don't think so. I believe that those who dance alone are concerned only with their own personal gratification.....points for style are not as important in solo competition. The gratification of their dancing partner is not considered, nor is it necessary. Furthermore, stamina is generally not required in solo competition.....dance marathons are not necessarily encouraged. It's kind of like an only child that never learned how to share his/her toys. Playing with your own toy does nothing to prepare you for the joys of sharing your toys with a friend.
