I understand that completely. I'm trying to get you to understand that inaction and half arse action have long term consequences.....which BTW have resulted in the current situation. PS: I like to get looped and sit around the campfire singing Kum Bay Yah more than anybody.

Mine is a 101K! It's bad and getting worse. For those of you that don't know yet, it is finally hitting even the nanotech/biotech sector. We just had an 18% 'Work Force Reduction'. EVERYONE's name was on one Excel spreadsheet with ten minute time differentials next to them. They lined us up one by one. Every ten minutes one of us went into the room like pigs to the slaughter house. The people either came out of room smiling, but shell-shocked or came out looking desperate and doe eyed That number does NOT include just acquiring one company of about 50-odd people and laying off 50% of its staff (keeping the product line), and acquiring another company of 30-odd and keeping only 2 (and killing their entire product line).....seems kind of, well, just plain messed up doesn't it? The layoff is after taking an ~10% pay cut and giving up our 10-13% company performance-based bonuses for '09 which we ALWAYS received and most of us relied on. The pay cuts were to keep from laying anybody off Even the local state University is laying off a huge number professional staff due to budget cuts. Of course they grew like a cancer that last 6 years....building buildings after building. Not hiring teachers or tenure track, but "Associate Research Professors" to populate all the grants that they were going to bring in with the new buildings. Yes folks. Buildings bring in grants or so Univ admin thinks. EDIT: I know I kind of ran away off topic with this rant. Excuse me.

Thanks to both of you ntps and iN. I don't know how funny it was, but now with the spam gone, obviously the joke's on me!

Bombing strategic targets and bombing them heavily is a LOT better solution than perfectly good boots on the ground = unfortunate young people having their limbs blown off in a no win situation. We don't need another Vietnam/Iraq/Russia in Afghanistan situation. I don't understand what the problem is. I definitely don't want to kill anyone, injure anyone or even hurt anyone's feelings and would rather my country not do so either. But they want to kill me, kill my family and destroy my way of life. Under those circumstances only a crazy person would try to sit around a camp fire and sing Kum Bay Yah with them. So, when I know where they are, my only logical and rational response is to eliminate them as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

Not really. I firmly believe that.......... -being addicted to a limited supply of petroleum that we do not own or control (which controls the price of EVERYTHING....even food AND diapers.....so in ya and out of ya are connected to it) -fighting a war with an imaginary enemy -giving loans to people that couldn't afford them (see the last two items below) -Greenspan constantly dickering with the system (which he now admits was a mistake)...like he thought he was the Wizard of Oz of the economy -shipping manufacturing jobs to Mexico and Asia (Ross Perot's "great sucking sound") -blatant corrupt and often illegal behavior -and out-right stupidity ........are what drove us down this road.. I hope I didn't leave anything important off the list, but I'm sure that I did. In any case, the last two are probably sufficient to cover everything anyway.

Wow. That's great about your health! Re: The diet. I agree with you but, many or most of us (Americans anyway), do not get enough fiber, essential oils, and certain vitamins in our regular, animal fat laden, overly processed diets. Most of us definitely don't eat enough fatty fish, antioxidant containing fruits and veggies, nuts and whole grains. And unfortunately, much our fatty fish supply in the US (eg, Atlantic Salmon) is laden with lipid soluble toxins. If everyone took care of themselves the way you do, overall medical costs would decrease dramatically, and everyone would be happier, healthier and live longer. You may also be blessed with great genetics. Of course I'm stating what is probably obvious and well known to you. But, I know several people that do *everything that they should (diet, manage stress and exercise) and still can't manage keep their blood pressure within the proper range and/or have high cholesterol, etc. To go along with what you said. I am VERY weary of "trace mineral" supplements such as chromium and other heavy metals. I think that it's crazy to take toxic waste. I also know of a person or two who has been admitted to the hospital for taking toxic does of vitamin E. They thought more was better. And of course there are others to limit or avoid all together. So, I agree with you for the most part. On the other hand, many vitamins are water soluble and they are relatively safe. For example the Bs and C. There is are no known toxic doses for these (or they are EXTREMELY high). The body simply excretes what it does not use. I used to eat raw Flax Seeds on my cereal and in my shakes but they're not very good. The Flax Seed oil and Fish Oil supplements I was referring to are simply pure oils.

I agree with almost everything you said. However, where I do disagree is, I think that the economy **may suffer in the *short term if the bailouts are cut off or refused. Do you see that it may also be logical to conclude the economy will benefit more in the *long term when the obsolete and corrupt companies that drove themselves, my colleagues' jobs and my 401K into the ground are replaced with newer and shinier companies. Our economy is like an ecosystem. And I see this as similar to damming up rivers in an effort to make 'clean power'. The intentions are honorable, but we neglect, ignore or are ignorant to the fact that there are dramatic, long term and negative consequences for our actions. Sure, we light a few bulbs without polluting the air. But the whole aquatic ecosystem gets knocked out of whack. So the salmon, the trout and rest of the river dies....eventually affecting the ecosystem of the ocean. This whole thingamajibber, including executive salaries, should play itself out if we can just stop trying to mess with the natural progression of things.

Does anyone know where I can buy Flax Seed, Flax Seed Oil, or Flax Seed Powder online? BTW: I take both Fish Oil AND Flax Seed Oil capsules supplements (why not both?) plus use Olive Oil in protein shakes, with bread, salads, substitute it in many recipes instead of butter (eg, it makes corn bread taste MUCH better).... ....and my HDL is nice and high.

You're right. Ridicule is not a valid form of argument. I apologize. From the Salary Cap Bailout Thread: ------------------------------------ RE: You **may have a **minor point. Therefore, I'll clarify my stance for anyone that happens to be paying attention and in case my statement was universally unclear or seemed contradictory to my other statements. I should have implicitly stated: ......bombing the crap out of Pakistan and Afghanistan using precisely targeted conventional air-to-ground and/or ground-to-ground missiles and/or precise bombing raids against targets which are known with 100% certainty to house or harbor known terrorists, terrorist groups and/or anti-US militants, but in all cases avoiding areas where innocent civilians might be present...........

I tend to agree. This seems to me to be one of the, or perhaps even the, most straight-forward questions/Topics on here. Someone *might wrestle with -singularity vs plurality (if, for example, someone happens to believe in more than one). -or they might prefer a little g (god) vs a big G (God). But, other than that -you do, -you don't -or you're not convinced either way But, we know that I am also guilty of making it unnecessarily complicated

I love that guy. Unfortunately, if we tried that now, they'd squash us like ants.

Interesting. I never considered that. I think it's a great idea. It gets my vote!

Any idea what was in it? Maybe that had something to do with it. -
Back to the bicycle without a chain idea. I was thinking about mounting a fan on one of these proven/patented designs for days when I'm too tired to peddle and there is no wind. The wheels could turn a couple of small generators to power the fan. Apparatus for Harnessing Wind to Drive a Bicycle patent#: US 6932368 issued on 8/23/2005 Wind-Assisted Bicycle patent#: US 6880844 issued on 4/19/2005 No chain should be required (although it looks like the original designers may have included peddles/chains for ancillary propulsion). What do you think?

What if you hang a really strong magnet out in front a steel-framed bike....like a carrot on a pole in front of a donkey?

ROFL. ....a large number of senior citizens with pace makers were found dead in their tracks in a neighborhood inhabited by cyclists with futuristic looking bicycles.....

vs "Rhetorical license" is one thing but your are twisting, and in this case even reversing my statements. 1. I said nothing about Nukes (as you countered with your right to the use rhetorical license). 2. This time, iNow, I said STRATEGIC STRIKES (because they can do it, at least in part because they can see the blackheads on my nose with satellites)....NOT "Broad based/non-specific strikes". See the difference? Why you wanna do that? Yep. Like I said, just send them chocolates and flowers. I hear pajamas are big this Valentine's Day. Maybe they will work. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged I think you're on to somethin here. I've read about this also It smells a lot like sneaking heroine inside the US in the body bags with those poor dead Vietnam War soldiers to fund 'Cee I Ate one' covert ops; doesn't it? Heroine addiction was nearly a non-existent issue in the US before that.... So why don't we hit the poppy fields? Ever see an IR satellite image of a marijuana field?? You can pick out the plant growth immediately and even specific plants by using spectral filtering.
-
Nukes? I never said anything about nukes. I can count the tiles on the roof of my house with Google Maps/Earth. Therefore it is logical to assume that the military can count the the blackheads on my nose when I am in my back yard. If they can't drop napalm on poppy fields and hit other strategic targets with that intel, Lord help us all. Burn the poppy fields and you cut off the head of the snake. Then bomb the snake's body. That may not be a complete solution, but it's a dang good start. You do realize where a large portion of the $$ is coming from right?

Qualify? My point is, bailouts shouldn't even be under consideration. This whole thing reminds me of a scene in 'The Jerk'. Where everybody and their brother were lined up looking for handouts from Navin after he got rich and he's too stupid to tell that they're just sucking him dry. 'The leather seats in my airplane are cracked (tears), I'm too embarrassed to take my friends to the SuperBowl This is us: l'.

Salary caps?? This whole "bailout" is crazy. In the USofA, anyway. It has the stench of something way far to the left of socialism. In the "free market", it plays itself out......they go bankrupt and more economically viable businesses and/or business that know how to manage their finances take their places. And the displaced employees go to work for them. We don't tell them how to run their businesses or how much or how little to pay anybody. They do it in an economically viable manner or they go out of business. If they operate within the boundries of the law, we leave them alone. If not, they are forced to shut their doors and/or go to butt pounding prison. Buggy manufacturers were replaced by railroads and the auto industry because horse drawn buggies became obsolete. Should we be bailing out buffalo hunters and the whaling industry too? Any "stimulus package(s)" should focus on unemployment benefits, alternate fuels, getting us out of Iraq, primary education and 4-yr college education and infrastructure (including tent cities in Death Valley so the crooks that ripped us off and the neocons that encouraged this to happen can be Bubba's girlfriend). Those are what got us in this mess and those are the only things that are going to get us out of it. Period. What country did I wake up and find myself in?
-
Are you completely up to date with the latest service pack patches? I've had the blue screen of death on numerous occasions, but the system always recovered after reboot, going into safe mode, then restarting normally. Plus two or three complete hard drive failures, but not in association with the screen of death (at least no association that I was aware of). I don't want to harp on the obvious, but you have imaged your hard drive and backed everything up on an external (eg, USB) hard drive, correct?
-
I respect your opinion but disagree with it. What would you prefer the US to do when there is intel that suggests that Al Qaeda members are operating out of certain houses in certain villages? Send them chocolates and flowers? My personal take on this is, if the US spent 1/100th the effort bombing the crap out of Pakistan and Afghanistan that is being spent trying to turn perfectly good warriors into policemen............. And was spent grinding a certain country into dust.... Which created a vacuum for foreign militants to fill (and consequently the desire to try and turn perfectly good warriors into policemen)... Who were/are hell-bent on getting in on the action so they can kill some "infidels" or get killed themselves so that they can go directly to heaven without passing Go and collect a bunch of dancing virgins ...... A country which a certain iron-fisted dictator kept in check.... An iron-fisted dictator which the US personally hand-selected and placed into his position of power specifically in order that he could launch missiles into a neighboring country...... Launch missiles into that neighboring country that was/is out of control and in a mess in large part because the US hand-selected and placed into power a certain Shaw, who was hated by many and loved by few, then overthrown by a rebellion/revolution...... .....well, then this mess would long be over. I don't have any evidence to dispute this but "any" is an awfully big, all encompassing word.

Viva la revolution d'impot! ...................... "Is it a rebellion?" asked Louis XVI. "No, sire," came the reply. "It is a revolution."

.......to clarify further, there are 23 pairs of chromosomes in each (normal) human cell. Plus, we have mitachodrial DNA, which is much like the prokaryotic DNA Charon described above.
