  1. Wow. I'm actually amazed at some of the responses. Did the employee request more training? Although the company sounds inefficient, part of an employee's duty is to become competent (beyond any training provided) and to transfer that knowledge to others to help the company become more profitable and competitive. This is especially important in quickly evolving high tech industries. It is also why employees should get raises over time. It this is not the case, then that is probably a problem. If not, I don't see it. Anyone who behaves in such a negligent and selfish manner on the job is at least partially to blame when they are laid off, their dept is shut down, the company loses market share, moves over seas (or over the border) or the company goes belly up. Furthermore when it is found out that knowledge is not being transfered to the new employee, and it will be. That won't look good. Keeping an eye open for new opportunities is ALWAYS a good idea.
  2. Try telling someone that survived the sinking of the USS Indianapolis that sharks don't like to eat people. If you are unfamiliar with the story, here is a pretty good link... http://www.ussindianapolis.org/story.htm
  3. Sharks are a very diverse group with a wide range of diets and feeding habits. Some are even herbivores. So I doubt that there is any one answer to this question. It would certainly depend to a great extent on the particular species in question. BTW: A surfer with his arms and legs hanging off his surf board waiting to hook up a wave looks a lot like a seal or sea lion from underneath.
  4. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Dr Paul Joseph Goebbels; German politician and Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda during the National Socialist regime from 1933 to 1945.

Well maybe I have too much time on my hands Anyway, the Jerry Springer show is often considered the worst show on American TV. The guests are on there to get their 15 minutes of fame (shame actually). It is an example of immorality gone crazy. The show clearly contradicts your statement because it shows that homo sapiens will unashamedly do not-so-bright things (like have sexual relationships with their spouse's parents, offspring, siblings, etc among various other deviant and disgusting behaviours) and they will keep doing stupid things over and over no matter the consequences. The parties involved come together to profess their love, talk and slug it out (on cue when the fight bell rings) before millions of viewers. In a nutshell (no pun intended), it seems to serve a useful purpose because now matter how low a person might sink, after he/she watches the Jerry Springer show he/she can walk away knowing others have sunk even deeper.

  8. If McCain continues to paint himself as a maverick and above the back room dealings of Washington, but continues to accept money from lobby groups and employ professional lobbyists in key posts in his campaign (as pointed out in my post above), he will continue to get critisized. And rightfully so. However, I do think it is kind of funny that the same pundits that have been critisizing McCain the most, are now defending him. It seems like a typical case of sibling rivalry/comradery....I beat the hell out of my brother 6 times a day, but he's my brother and if you touch him, I'll beat the hell out of you...... or as was stated in iNOW's post (Ms Norris): the enemy of my enemy is my friend.....

Funny how perception works..... I was thinking pretty much the same thing about your stance on this issue. You might be on to something. But if it is only about population, over population and population control, are we to assume that you don't have much of a problem with murder, war, ethnic cleansing and other forms of genocide either?

That's funny. I thought it was about a particular court's interpretation of the law. Which might change btw (we can only hope and pray). Dear Lord, that's way too graphic. How can I erase this from my memory? We don't know do we....so let's just kill it anyway. Reminds me of kids putting salt on slugs or drying worms on the sidewalk. Pretty sick, except in this case, it is NOT a slug and NOT a worm. LOL. Don't worry about me. I'm OK. I have not directed anything personally at you (except the following). I'm right and you're just hypersensitive and really really wrong. If I have directed anything at you please show me and I'll apologize. PS: Calling you out on what you say is not personal.

While we are on the irrelevant subject that you are so hung up on (health care for neonats and children lucky enough to be outside the womb), why aren't all the pro choice people calling for psychological and psychiatric assistance for all of the women (and others that might be involved) that have undergone abortions and are now suffering from pyschological issues as a consequence. Believe me, I know more women than I have fingers (I would probably have to take my shoes off) that suffer from clinical depression, PTSS, self anger, severe regret, guilt, shame, and the thought of what might have been...as a direct consequence of having abortions....even decades ago. Abortion can be devistating pyschologically...oh, but I forgot, it's just a choice. Please get it out of your head that someone (such as those evil antiabortionists) is trying to impose an arbitrary personal morality on innocent pregant victims. It ain't so. You sound like NOW, not iNOW. The ones unlucky enough not to have passed through a birth canal yet are the victims here. Murder is not personal morality, it is accepted universally in nearly every culture, theology (including no theology), nation, village, etc as being morally, ethically, and legally wrong. To you it is a collection of undeveloped cells ...perhaps a fingernail to be discarded without a second thought as someone once put it to me (how sad is that). But to me, to many others, it is a hell of a lot more than that. And until someone proves to me that life does not begin until a baby goes through a birth canal and/or just when a pregnant woman wishes for it to be born, at the very least I shall err on the side of caution. That is not personal morality my friend. Baby goes through birth canal = life. Baby doesn't go through birth canal = no life (no way) I have a baby inside me = oh joy, life. I have a "fingernail" inside me; yuck, I want it out = no life (no way) Our thoughts and emotions are largely the result of neurons in particular areas of the brain firing in patterns. So does a fetus' or an embryo's life exisit or not exist only when certain neurons in a pregnant woman's brain fire in a certain pattern?
  13. Dear Lord man, he is only 23. If he puts his mind to it now, he can have his PhD by 32 (2 yrs comm college, 2 yrs at a 4 yr school and 4-5-6 years in grad school) and then have at least 40 years or more yrs of professional contributions (not even counting grad school). Don't be discouraged. Just do it. If you don't you'll regret it.

    Opium Poppy

One of my favorite subjects. Most importantly, do you have an outline? Where is the outline? Other things you might want to include in the topic.....opiate receptors (several types and their locations...and why are they there), endogenous opiates (endorphines, enkephalines, etc what role do they play), heroine, opiate angonists/antagonists..what are they good for, differing opinions on methadone treatment, legal opiates like dextromethorphan, mechanisms of opiate pain regulation (the emotional impact of pain and how opiates effect this vs direct analgesia) what were the Opium Wars-which you mentioned (war, what is it good for...absolutely nothin....but the opium wars were a HUGE impact on Anglo Asian politics), opium trade and current politics, the origin of the term "just a pipe dream", economics and opiate addicition, chronic pain vs addiction, poppy seed rolls and your next job interview.........etc etc..
  16. To those who believe that Maverick is actually a maverick and free from the goings on in Washington........ Feb. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Democrat Hillary Clinton has raised more money from lobbyists than any other presidential candidate while Republican John McCain has more of them assisting his campaign. Clinton took in $823,087 from registered lobbyists and members of their firms in 2007 and the second-biggest recipient was McCain, who took in $416,321, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington-based group which tracks political giving. Barack Obama, Clinton's rival for the Democratic nomination, doesn't take money from registered lobbyists, although he received $86,282 from employees of firms that lobby, according to the center. McCain has 26 registered lobbyists as campaign advisers or fundraisers compared with 11 for Clinton and none for Obama, according to review of records compiled by Public Citizen, a Washington-based group that favors stronger disclosure laws for lobbyists. http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20080204/pl_bloomberg/apnpwl7xnjik

    Abortion Survey...

OK post 225 again: Again. This does not have ANY relevance to the abortion debat. Firstly, whether you believe it bullshit or not, just because someone wishes to protect an unborn child from harm does not automatically mean that they must be for or be against some government welfare/healthcare/etc program. I believe that YOU are guilty of imposing your moral standard on someone else in this case. Furthermore, what planet am I on? When someone calls the police or child protective services because their neighbor is abusing their children, is it expected that they will pay for the continued welfare of those children out of their own pockets??? I shouldn't call child protective services because I may be unwilling to pay for the welfare of the children? Please. This is the logic you are using and it is dead wrong. Do you see it now? They are two separate issues and you have failed to make any connection. And again, as I stated before. You are making a FALSE assumption that everyone that is against abortion ("they", the evil ones, those jerks that have the tamarity to try and force their own personal moralities on innocent pregnant women) is also against govt funded (aka "free") neonatal and child health care. I can tell you with absolute 100% certainty that is not the case.
  18. The point is valid. Maverick is not as squeeky clean, nor as much of a maverick as he claims to be. I am more than a little taken aback that the Keating Five incident has not recieved more press this election cycle. Are you refering to Sammy the Bull?

You are free to take your pick. However it does not change the fact that your points about health care do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to substantiate your position on abortion. And you are either unwilling or unable to explain how they might.
  20. I can remember the Drudge report that announced that the NYT was sitting on this story way back in Nov. While I am certainly no fan of McCain, the NYT is a definitely trying to give favor to whomever the Dem candidate will be. The bottom line is, McCain a sittying US Senator and US Senators are in the lobbyists' pockets. Always have been, always will be. Period. Just google Keating Five and see whose name pops up. PS: I hope that when I'm a broken down, decrepit, angry 71 old man, that I can get a hot 40 yr old.

Your neighbor's sovereignty does not prevent child protective services from going in and taking children away from harmful and abusive environments, and yet you have no problem with it. And I see pure evil in killing a child, that just so happens to reside inside someone else, for convenience. You know unless you are a complete anarchist you don't have much of an ideological leg to stand on. You willingly give up your rights to your body every day. You can't get medications (even birth control pills) without a Dr's perscription. We have legislation and the DEA to fight the "war on drugs". You will be jailed for illicit substance possession. It is illegal to commit suicide. How come?

It framed what issue? Please explain how your points re health care relate to abortion. I really do not get it. Are saying that we don't have "free" health care for children and pregnant women, therefore we should have abortion? Because it looks like you are. That's a new one. Trying to protect unborn children is evil.

To my knowledge, you are the only one that has mentioned neonatal health care (at least recently) in this forum. So how could anyone poo poo it? You appear to be closing your eyes and throwing hand grenades in all directions. For example, you are making an assumption (just perhaps it is false?) that all anti abortion people are also anti some un-named or non existent government funded or gov subsidized neonatal health care policy that may or may not currently exist or that may have never even been proposed people. Please tell me about this nebulis health care plan that they are all against. Whoever "they" are, they must be awful because it appears from what you have said that they want babies to be born with preventable deformitites and illnesses and to suffer. "They" sound like a bunch of jerks:-)
