I've pondered this nugget for a while.....how did Paul run his Congressional campaigns and how did the media react to him there? I can't imagine that there was much of a similarity....but if there wasn't...why? Conversely, if they were similar, why such dramatically different outcomes? It can't be just the difference in local/national vs national/national....could it? Could Paul's home base populace/media be soooooo fundamentially different?

Strong words. What are they (Suzuki, Ottawa and Emonton) gonna do, hit somebody with a hockey stick? BTW: If any of you say that the world isn't round, I'll hit you with a dinner roll....so you had better not. PS: I came to this post thinking that "Don't support GW? Go to jail." ...was in reference to fearless leader

Electrolysis NaCl to Chlorate New Question
DrDNA replied to recursive's topic in Inorganic Chemistry
At the rate you are going, it won't be long before you or someone that follows your instructions, find yourselves not living under a bunch of grass. -
If that were true, and it is not, then they don't have a responsibility to vote either. You are just regurgitating high school civics class nonsense here...a la all our problems would be solved if we could just get more people to vote (thoughtlessly).........all cattle line up, single file and proceed immediately to the feed troughs.....

Yep. That's probably about right. And the Democrat (or a Republican) being interviewed probably thinks a libertarian was a movie that Johnny Depp starred in (The Libertine).

*I*suspect that one (the?) reason people aren't seeing Iraq as a top issue anymore is because the media is not making it a top issue anymore. Much more so than the converse. This is at least partially (compeletely?) due to the fact the 3 remaining candidates have similar records on "the war on terror"....... ......spoken in chemical reaction terms: (HC, BO, JM agree)...........(media).....................(citizens) ...................... <-- ..................... <-- NO SPLASH ---------> NO STORY --------> NO CONCERN notice how the reaction mainly goes to the right....very little trickles back to the left unless something drives the equilibrium in that direction.... It's the old chicken vs egg question. In this case, the egg is rotten.

Nothing wrong with morphine either....but if are dependant on it, don't think you can live without it.....you're one sick puppy. When self interest is taken to the extremes that we have taken it to in this country, there most certainly is something wrong with it.

"In politics, a brokered convention--where the nominee is determined at the convention and not beforehand in the state primaries and caucuses--" http://www.mydd.com/story/2007/4/5/142652/1481 If you follow the link, the guy goes into detail about the ins and outs of brokered conventions. It's more interesting than I thought it would be....

A thief always assumes that everyone else is a thief as well.....but that does not mean that everyone is a thief. Just because a large portion of this country is selfishly focused on their own self interests doesn't mean that everyone is. You assume that, just because you think that way, everyone does. Well, we don't (all think that way). Some of us vote with a view towards the big picture....regardless of our own narrow minded personal interests and agendas. Would Ron Paul cut funding for the science and technology research that I make my living at? Hell yes he would! Do I support Ron Paul? Hell yes I do! If (when) my job gets cut because of govt down sizing because a true fiscal conservative is in office, am I gonna die? Hell no. Am I going to have some new opportunities if (when) that happens? Hell yes! I'll say it again. THIS is EXACTLY why (a major factor anyway) we are in a mess in this country.......political hermaphodites pleasing each and every narrowly focused special interest group with some minimal level of voting blocks and/or lobbying juice and the addicts that vote for them. Feed me...feed me....feed me....feed me. Excuse me but I've got to return to my stall and get the electric prod shoved up my rear.....MOOOOOO

They're all good, interesting topics. And you can find a LOT of info about each even on the internet. You could close your eyes and pick and not do wrong. "You can do it."

Lawyers and judges make rotten scientists, don't they?

We have no choice any more!! Why? Because we can be satisfied without one..so we get what we deserve. We're not sheep. We're worse. We're like morphine addicts... dependant on our middle of the road, moderate, Jackasses and Elephants they're drug dealers....and we're all looking for a fix...a govt handout, govt backed initiative, tax rebate, or financial incentive....nothin but cough syrup. If you IGNORE THE MEDIA and look closely at Mr McCain's, Mrs Clinton's, and Mr Obama's Senate voting records (see below), they appear to be mostly interchangable pieces.... they are POLITICAL HERMAPHRODITES... distinguishable perhaps only by the following.... McCain has a hell of a lot of NVs in the last year (I suspect in a denial effort in order to play both sides this season), went completely against the will of his constituents in Arizona with his open border policy and is somewhat anti abortion (at least he had the good sense to go against partial birth procedures and has voted in favor of the right to lifers a few times). Obama has a pretty decent record on the 2nd amendment (MUCH better than Hillary and the gun lobbyists give him more points than McCain) and was a no show for the two abortion votes he was in office for. Also, Clinton has voted for partial birth abortion and is VERY adamently pro choice. She is right at the very top in the whole congress for bringin home the pork. At the opposite end of the pork spectrum, McCain has brought zero (nada, zip, nuttin...) pork dollars home to his state of Arizona. WHERE IT COULD ACTUALLY BE USED. It's turning into Mexico and I don't mean the people...I mean the jobs, the wages, the conditions....especially in the school system which was 49th 10 yrs ago...is 49th .....and will contiue to be.....49th. Meanwhile AZ's Gov Doubtfire (who continues to get re elected in spite of the education issue mentioned above) is almost certain to get at least a cabinet post (VP anybody?) if the dems win. I've got it....she could head the dept of education! Everywhere else, the 3 choices from which our next president shall come appear to be very similar by my account. As far as erroding the constitution and its amendments and foreign policy (as in W's ""war on terror"" against the US-created dictator in Iraq which never was a threat to the US) goes, they all, unfortunately, have followed W like sheep. Please check out their records for yourselves and stop listening to the lying egg sucking dog media.... McCain http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=53270 Clinton http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=55463 Obama http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=9490 Dr Paul is (was?) the ONLY conservative candidate in this election cycle:-( . We are, unfortunately, left without much of a choice...except the left. NONE of them, except Paul voted against renewal of the Patriot Act. Paul http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=296 I don't intend to be rude, but it is exactly that sort of narrow minded focus, and the politicians desire and willingness to please special interests, that got us in this mess and it is exactly what is going to keep us in the mess. What ever happened to lets ride the wave of good fortune created by doing something good for everybody? I've gotta run, Brittany just got out of the looney bin and she isn't wearing any panties.

If all the single white females, females over 60, high school drop outs, and Hispanics would come on here and start blogging, instead of voting in the polls for the wrong candidate, then maybe Obama could get this over with.

Don't forget that he is also a member of the exclusive Keating Five club.

But this is anecdotal evidence.

Electrolysis NaCl to Chlorate New Question

And obtaining them from salvaged items like depleted batteries insulates you from their toxicity how? -
That is correct. I disagree with you, therefore I am an evil "professional breed basher" and live in a cave. I eat innocent children too! Meanwhile Pit Bull owners everywhere are nestled with their loving Pit Bulls with visions of lollipops dancing in their heads. You are right. It is unnerving. It is not 100% perfect (NO study is) and disagrees with your feelings and emotions. So let's use the most comprehensive and accurate study that has ever been done as accident paper for the Pit Bull?? It's better than that. Come on. Yes, imagine how ignorant and biased I must be, because I view that statement as being fairly accurate. Dogs (any breed) trained for fighting are too dangerous to keep around other dogs (I'm not even going to mention people). I'm not sure if you are advocating people keeping tigers in cages and/in back yards or not. But if you are, let the lions and tigers and bears oh my roam free where they belong. What kind of a cruel sick person keeps a tiger in a cage and/or their back yard?. Its not for the tiger's benefit or best interest, that is for certain. Probably similar personalities at work here. Uhm. Who cares about the first half of the 20th century in reference to the dangers associated with Pit Bulls or Pit Bull owners? I certainly do not. Clifton's study dealt with the later half of the 20th century (1982 to 1996? or something). If he had used old data, then of course that would be the problem. The first half of the 20th centruy is just about as relevent as Spot in Our Gang is.....zero. Here we go. You are claiming Clifton is an idiot at least in part because he claims that the German Shepard was bred for tending sheep? Well, you must know more than everyone else, including the AKC. Derived from the old breeds of herding and farm dogs, and associated for centuries with man as servant and companion, the German Shepherd Dog ....................the parent club of the breed founded in 1899 in Germany, the cult of the Shepherd spread rapidly from about 1914 onward in many parts of the world. http://www.akc.org/breeds/german_shepherd_dog/history.cfm Of course now they are bred to the club (eg, AKC and others) standard which is more about the stance, shape of head, etc. Is this what you are doing? Trying to divide and confuse based on "were" and "are"?

I vote we try to keep this discussion the the Pit Bull thread.

This was over in the old livestock discussion....which actually started this discussion some months back. It is about the Clifton reports. In an effort to return to logic and evidence and satisfy is some part the pleas for evidence and data, here.......:

Doh. I've been using peristaltic pumps for 20 years and I didn't realize that was what was being described here.

In the US, you can purchase most firearms after the dealer does a quick (usually over the phone while you wait) background check on the purchaser. In order to CARRY a concealed weapon (eg, a pistol under your jacket or in your pants) in MOST states you must pass a CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) permit class. 39 states are now "shall issue" CCW permit states and the number keeps climbing (thankfully). To obtain the permit, you must pass a class and demonstrate a level of competency. The class is generally about 8 hours long including lecture and shooting range qualification. Plus you must pass a stringent federal background check. In some states you can carry a hand gun without any type of permit if it is clearly visible. In a few states, they require you to have it concealed if you carry so you don't scare people. There are restrictions on where you can not carry also, including post offices, public schools, national parks, voting places, government buildings, any place that serves alchohol (in some states),........ It is interesting that Vermont has NO restrictions on carrying or concealing hand guns and it has the one of the lowest murder rates in the nation (47th out of 50) and, according to the FBI, almost the lowest violent crime rate (49th).
