  1. I was trying to clarify your point, sorry if it came out otherwise
  2. It'll take a while, you really need to understand some key stuff in Linux to be able to install gentoo.
  3. Nope, I learnt from that one when my brother "accidentally" deleted something very important on my old Mac a while back.
  4. Yeah - the first thing it comes up with when it detects a pop-up is "would you like to enable the pop-up blocker?" It's entirely up to you as to whether you want to use it or not.
  5. Perhaps I should've mentioned that this isn't for the linux n00b
  6. I think the fact that my search turned it up under the name "Threads (warning - very disturbing - seriously)" says something about it really.
  7. Or indeed just Mozilla if you want the satisfaction of Mozilla Mail
  8. Got 1mbps at home, just about to test my Warwick connection on it
  9. True, one more reason why it's stupid. Uranium (which is obviously radioactive) is also highly toxic. Not nice
  10. I think the most annoying thing is probably MSN Plus which installs a load of crap on your computer unless you see the thing in installation - and as a lot of people don't check...
  11. I wouldn't joke about it really, I'd expect it's extremely painful and not very pleasent. Almost certainly fatal depending on how much you ingest.
  12. It's only admins, yes. Back on topic anyway, I'm sure YT doesn't want his thread spoilt by this stuff
  13. The Linux kernel was written by Linus Torvalds (sp) and is GNU. The UNIX kernel is a commercially written bit of code (as far as I'm aware). If you're talking about FreeBSD, the kernel was written by Berkeley but is open source. Basically it's all licensing issues.
  14. I have to say that I agree
  15. I think I've seen a bit of that. Definately a film to obtain
  16. I think he probably was too.
  17. Tough
  18. [math]\left.^{11}_{4} \mbox{Be}\right. \rightarrow \beta^{-} + \left.^{11}_{5} \mbox{B}\right.[/math]
  19. Gentoo comes in various stages, stage1 being "compile everything from scratch", stage2 being "compile the system stuff with compilers and glibc already built" and stage3 is a pre-built system. You need to read the documentation and stuff first, the install is a bit of a hog.
  20. I still think it's a very good idea, it just needs refinement to make it fairer.

Not really, dongles work very well against your average Joe who can just about download himself a crack - without getting hold of a dongle on the cheap, nicking one or building one yourself, you can't run the software. It's certainly good now because people have lots of USB ports etc, but does add to the manufacturing costs, hence why most software firms apart from the large ones don't have them.

Avid ships all of their software with a dongle. However if you're rich enough to be able to afford their video cards, you're certainly rich enough to get their software so it doesn't really matter
  23. What's Threads about?
  24. ESA encorporates a lot of countries, and they launch a lot of rockets. Other countries don't do it because they quite frankly don't have the money. It's an extremely expensive business. Something like SpaceShipOne is like a small balloon compared to Saturn V and the Space Shuttle. They said they were going to test the craft today (which they have), and then they'd make a serious bid at the X-Prize. My guess is by mid-July, they'll have claimed it.
