    Robot wars

That's a mighty fine circular saw you've got mounted on the front of the robot
  2. rofl, I'd forgotten about that one. You should stick it into YT's jokes thread.
  3. I know of a few who'd probably like that sort of thing, but I won't get into that here (Did latin up to 5 years with some extra Greek, never heard it pronounced like that either, just to put this post reasonably on topic)
  4. No they're not (it's quicker and l33ter to write than viruses).
  5. That's because a hex editor also throws up an ascii representation of the file you're opening (in case there's some text in there you want to change, or to make it easier to read etc).
  6. Sorry, did it again and forgot to read the next page of stuff. As regards to linux, I haven't heard of lots of trojans and virii going around, probably because it's not a widely used desktop machine so there's not a lot of point. Mainly it's exploits for a variety of server programs and things that run in the background.
  7. Quite. Inevitably, something like the RPC exploit is going to come up again, and when it finds your IP (like it did on my LAN), it's a pain in the ass that can quite easily be protected against by a simple firewall. I mean, there's simply no excuse for not getting one tbh. The one shipped with XP, whilst not the best in the world, is definately better than nothing at all, and it takes about 5 seconds to activate.
  8. Yeah, that's correct. You might want to try somewhere like tripod.co.uk, last time I looked they were doing free PHP/MySQL hosting. As regards to installing phpBB, it's a pretty simple process, just need to change the paths that you're given depending on the host, then upload the files with the correct permissions and run the install script.
  9. You're talking about cross-compilation, which is very possible under the same operating system. gcc (which is pretty much the de-facto C/C++ compiler for linux - which is definately not the same as UNIX btw) can cross-compile source code which is not intended for the same CPU type. For example, you might have a very old Motorola 68k which you can't be bothered compiling things for. No problems, you set up a 68k cross-compiler on a fast box so that you compile things for it. It's not as simple as this, but it's that kind of idea.

    Power Source

Whatever you do, don't touch it whilst it's on
  11. The one I know most is probably Hawking, just because I don't really know any scientists brilliantly. He's famous for obvious reasons
  12. Tried using another browser?
  13. All my lecturers seem to use the pronunctiation that sounds like "thigh". Never mind, we don't usually say it all that often, just write it again and again and again and...
  14. Argh, my first one was today. Luckily it was only Probability A so it was pretty easy (touch wood). Got em until the bloody 7th June as well, and there's one on my birthday I hate exams.
  15. Don't know what's goin on about the chatroom (or even if the link on the forums works yet, I'll check in a minute).
  16. Sorry, I'm lost. Can't we just say we either love or hate everyone and get it over with?
  17. Say "no", or run away very quickly.
  18. Get some toilet paper, and put your finger through the hole, holding the toilet paper horizontally. Then notice that either you can pull the paper, and it goes over the top of the roll (i.e. the roll will spin clockwise), or when you pull it the opposite thing happens, i.e. the rolls spins anti-clockwise and toilet paper comes from the bottom of the roll. Another mystery solved.

    Help please...?

To get a bonus point or two, you could mention a bit about relativity, and how travelling at faster speeds causes time dilation effects between different inertial frames.
  20. I would think it's easiest to create sound waves in a gas myself. Just a wild guess though.
  21. Not as far as I'm aware. The issue of continuity seems to apply only to functions.
  22. Also I kindof noticed that at the bottom of the main forum page, the "most online users ever" bit never seems to actually work - it always displays the most users today, for some bizarre reason.
  23. Yeah, that happens to me quite a lot, although in my case it helps me to think about a particularly hard problem.
