  1. I don't think you'd be able to understand most of modern day physics without mathematics.

  3. As x goes to 0 from the right, 1/x tends to infinity. From the left it tends to negative infinity. That's the entire problem of trying to define 1/0.
  4. I'll lend a hand with the math and a bit of physics (I daresay I should be able to handle that, heh). And if you need some help with the website, I can give you a hand. I've got another 5 weeks, then I'm off for summer.

  7. To be fair, I'm not a physicist, I don't really know - to be quite frank I'm not that intelligent. I'm just saying what I've been told tbh. I think I should stop posting on the physics forums
  8. It's useful because it crops up a lot in the solution of differential equations (i.e. when you try a solution y = e^(kx) and k turns out to be a complex number).

  11. Yes, I know. I wouldn't really expect a normal handheld calculator (apart from perhaps my TI-89) to be able to work it out. My point is, I said above: and then proceeded to type it into mathematica and get the same answer (somehow).
  12. I'd get a crate of guinness in, and go explore the universe I guess. Then when NASA eventually gets around to landing a guy on Mars, I'll sit waiting for them to land in a tent as a surprise.

  14. Magnetic disk drives are (quite obviously) going to be superceded one day, it's just finding a suitable media to replace them - in 20 years time, we probably won't be using them any more.
  15. You need to replace < with [ and > with ], then split it up a bit, or else it's just going to die because it only allows images of a certain size to be generated for security purposes.

  18. rofl When you actually think about it, there's almost an infinite number of things that could happen to the coin - most just have infinitely small probabilities

  20. Had to do this question for my analysis. The basic proof behind it is showing that [math]\lim_{n\to\infty} \left( 1+\frac{1}{n} \right)^{n} \leq e[/math] and then [math] \lim_{n\to\infty} \left (1+\frac{1}{n} \right)^{n} \geq e[/math], so the limit must be e.
