    infinity?

    That's good
  2. Well, it's a bigger number than an estimate of all particles in the known universe, so I think that accounts for being "quite big"

    Ryder Cup

He'll never win, especially since Federer et al are on such good form atm. They're just in a completely different league.
  4. Whilst I don't take anything from New Scientist at face value, I do agree that we should be looking to nature for these things. Millions of years of evolution have produced some of the fastest and most aerodynamic creatures around - nature has to be doing something right.

COME ON TIM!!! etc. I think we need some proper funding behind our sports people.
  6. There's absolutely no evidence of where Bush actually was between May 1972 and May 1973 (unless you care to enlighten me). The man just doesn't know enough to qualify him as being President of the USA - for one thing, good communication is essential, and the amount of times he's just talked a load of complete nonsense is just wrong. He's controlled by the big corporations and just plain doesn't care about your average Joe. The fact that he can (or could) fly a plane bears little on his current occupation. As for the others, I don't know enough about them to comment. Reagan was controlled by his wife (that much was obvious), but selling arms to Iran/Iraq was a big mistake, you can't possibly protest that.
  7. Our course is quite a lot slower than a lot of courses I've seen, but only because we're expected to prove more or less everything we see. We start metric spaces this year, so I guess I will almost certainly be running into it.
  8. I guess we'll soon see if they get it right.
  9. I've always found Photoshop to be one of the more intuitive interfaces to use - then again I've never really used anything else for more than about 2 minutes.

I was talking about the more generalised area of sport rather than just golf, but it's pleasing that we're doing pretty well. Golf's not really a favourite sport of mine to watch, just too boring.
  11. As strange as it sounds, I haven't really touched on set theory a hell of a lot, although I've heard of this particular theorem in passing. As I understand it, at my uni it's more of an advanced topic studied after the first year. I have a feeling it's going to crop up this year.
  12. So what?
  13. Could we do something about either validating posts that go to the announcements forum or just stopping them completely? Some threads are starting to get a bit filled up in there.
  14. It was basically a place where you could play online games (Tetris, Space Invaders, etc). The person who got the highest score in that particular game would get it mentioned in their profile. I always thought it was rather cool.

That makes a change. Usually it's the other way around.
  16. Both my aunt and mom are teachers, and they have a hellish time working their way through the red tape. The amount of paperwork you have to fill in just for lesson planning is completely extortionate. It's also one of the least paid professions considering the amount of work you have to do: marking books, doing paperwork, preparing lessons, etc.
  17. Photoshop CS is the best image-manipulation program out there by far.

And the payoff deal (£2.2 million + £0.5m for pension scheme) given to the failed executive of M&S.

So far, no luck with any of the codes. I'm thinking about them though
  20. It's not all it's cracked up to be
  21. Quite. Haven't we discussed this 23 times already? In this forum?
  22. Whilst streaming it over teh interweb? I don't think you've quite thought that one through.
  23. Yeah, there's a thread on here somewhere with a proof of this.

When you say "All numbers are rounded to the second decimal place", does this mean that 5.33 is supposed to be [math]5 \tfrac{2}{3}[/math]?
