  1. Try ipconfig for that.
  2. Read the post above. It's a client mode, if you unset it, everyone can see your IP. Not all servers support it: indeed, those crazy RFC1459 server people don't have it, as well as a bunch of others. The servers we're on support it, however.
  3. Just as a sidenote: to do this on our network, use /mode <yournickhere> +x: most of the time, you shouldn't need to bother though, since when you connect, this mode is automatically set.
  4. I minimise my security risks by not using IE (for a start). I'm also behind my router and an internal firewall (which also controls program access to the net), so no Slammer-esque bugs for me. Need to get decent anti-virus software though, Norton seems to suck immensely. I'm blatently not bothering with SP2 because the moment I update, they'll find another 23,000 bugs and I'll have to pull all those as well. Give it a month would probably be my advice.
  5. ZoneAlarm and Norton have quite a few problems co-existing. I've had a major headache trying to work out what was causing my e-mail connections to timeout, until I realised ZoneAlarm was being a pain. Your best bet is to check out the patches' changelogs and see if there's any fixes for your problems.
  6. This (from my experience) is easier said than done. A lot of parents are just too stressed from work/other stuff, so they just plonk their kids in front of the TV and don't really care what's on as long as they're off their backs for a bit. My brother is 11 years old, and in my opinion the kind of cartoons and kids TV broadcasting is radically different than when I was going through it. There's a lot more anime-style stuff (Pokemon, etc) that simply didn't exist on British TV broadcasting up until about 5 years ago. Also, the kinds of adverts appearing at the times most likely for kiddies to watch the TV are really quite different than those 11 years ago. I find it all a little depressing really.
  7. Can't believe you guys have been going on about this for almost an entire page now Surely it's just a matter of opinion?
  8. Well, not really. Read post #5: generally 00 is regarded to be 1.
  9. I'm talking about the US's general attitude towards the UN; the way the entire security council was ignored when it came to Iraq was rather unpleasent. I'm not an expert by any means, but I found it quite appauling.
  10. I make a habit of never reading tabloid papers. As I said before, don't read them if you're looking to increase your vocabulary. Only read them if you want the latest celebrity gossip and/or scantily clad women.
  11. Dividing anything by zero is an undefined operation. It's not really linked to 00 as far as I know.
  12. I've been playing for about 10 years, studying for my diploma atm.
  13. What? I suggest you go and read one of the proper broadsheets (not the tabloids) and then come back and tell me whether you think that's true. Some of the best (and arguably the most influential) writing in the world comes from the comments sections in newspapers.
  14. He's an old skool jazz trombone player who I'm a big fan of (probably because I play trombone myself). He has an absolutely amazing tone. I did have a version of Night in Tunisia in which he performed along with another 7 trombones, but I've lost it
  15. Personally, I think US foreign policy - which is rather akin to "let's police force the world becuase we're a superpower" - needs a radical overhaul. Maybe they should start actually paying attention to the UN (like they didn't before all of the fighting broke out) before putting some policy in there.
  16. Out of interest, has anyone else here ever heard of Kai Winding?
  17. Not really. I simply wanted to point out the fact that you should really read news articles rather than your average book if you want to increase your vocabulary considerably. Your statement would (probably) be interpreted as the latter.
  18. Nice taste in Jazz, always good. Seems to be less than a few around anymore for some reason.
  19. I still like the lawyer jokes most tbh
  20. I recommend Latin personally, but that's just me.
  21. I'm very much appreciative of Foo Fighers - Times Like These.

    infinity?

I'd like to back up what matt grime said about this. In general, I believe you can only define the term "infinity" in a particular context. For example, take a sequence [math](a_n) \to \infty[/math]. This is defined in a very rigorous context - however, the same definition does not necessarily apply to other situations.
  23. Say what now?
