finally someone helps. Thanks for the post but still i need something obtainable, calcium hydroxide is un-obtainable by me. Aswell that would not produce kno3. Have you any ideas from were or how i can extract kno3 from HOUSEHOLD ingredients. Australia, unlike the U.S.A does not sell kno3 in any form, so stump remover is a no go. so please more help!!!! p.s. Is a stone mortar and pestle ok for mixing gunpowder? or will it ignite the mixture?

Hi there I only know a bit of the basic's of chemistry and would like some help please. Im trying to make some potassium nitrate (Kno3), just wondering if it can be extracted from sulphate of potash, which says it has 1. Potassium as Sulphate 41.5% and 2.Sulphur as Sulphate 17% This would be a good source of potassium am i right?? Now where could i get some nitrate but must be from somewhere around the house? Aswell what would be the best method to extract the kno3 at the end using the sulphate of potash and the unknown nitrate source??
