  1. Hey everyone, I'm relatively new here... I'm a 15 year old high school sophomore from CT, and I'm really enjoying reading all the posts on this site. I hate being ignorant, and want to soak up as much knowledge as possible... I'm constantly astounded by how little I know, please feel free to correct me when I'm wrong! I'm currently taking honors Chemistry as my science course, next year I'll probably take AP Physics. Unfortunately the Physics teachers at my school have been noted for their stupidity and inability to teach... so I may be teaching myself Physics. Won't be the first time, my Biology teacher from last year was quite the idiot. C'est la vie (that is the extent of my French, by the way, I take Spanish). I love horseback riding and animals, and I may want to be a vet. Also, I'm very interested in psychology... Anyway, it's very nice to meet you all I'm very happy to be here.
  2. We'd need a new Bellerophon, that's for sure...
  3. In that case, do you believe that just because we haven't gotten to the future yet, that people exist there who may be traveling back in time (to our time, or before it, or after it) to alter things? A closed cycle linking past and future-if it's true, is time then truly the "fourth dimension," able to move backwards and forwards upon itself? Just because we don't understand something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and while I'm not convinced that we are capable of time travel, I'm not convinced that it doesn't exist either. What about all the possible futures-forgive me for sounding cliche science fictional here-but are there "other dimensions" where might have beens have happened? Is that less likely than the possibility that our present depends on a past that can be/has been changed by a future that's already occurred?
  4. Also there is the problem of inbreeding, per say, for a small amount of the same male's semen impregnating a large amount of woman would make a huge amount of children siblings-preventing any of these women's sons from being potential sperm donors to any of the other women's daughters. The genetic pool would have to be greatly varied to prevent mutation-a great number of males would have to be allowed to reach sexual maturity and then killed. I have to question how much missing out on half of the evolutionary process would hurt human evolution, after all, there is a part of inheritence that is solely from the mother (mitochondrial DNA), which may make her the more important of the genetic contributors? Also, I wonder how far into the future we are looking... there must be some glitch on the way in this plan that would make it fall apart, even before the harm it does to our evolutionary development becomes evident. The glitch may be social, it may be psychological, enviornmental, even physical, but I have a feeling this plan wouldn't last for long enough to view the scientific effects it would have on our species.
  5. That makes sense, I never thought of it that way before... However, I believe it would be impossible for a person to change the past, because even 'a butterfly beating its wings in China can cause a tornado across the world'... We would be mere observers of events, and it's even possible that the people in the past would be unaware of our presence. On the other hand, what if at some point, travel into the past becomes so regular that the future would only be the way it is because of our alterations to the past? I'd rather believe in my first thought, but I can't say which would occur...
  6. Hmm as to the psychological aspects... Would you block all past literature and make it a Farenheit 451 kind of thing? People are naturally curious, whether they be male or female, and eventually there would be a rebellion which would lead back to a sufficient amount of males in the population. Even a stupid romance novel could spark a revolution, so if this theory was to work, it would be imperative that knowledge be taken away. Do we want to sacrifice knowledge for the sake of peace?
