  1. I really doubt it will become WW3. If Iran and Syria declare war on Israel, and America backs up Israel etc. then it could turn into a WW3... so we have the "is it WW3?" question in the hands or the Iranians and Syrians, whom I do not trust. Having said that I don't think there is much in it for them to start a war now. So hopefully they will not. Also by next week many people are saying that there will be a lot more political pressure on Israel to stop the bombings. If the bombings ease it may signal the beginning of an end to this. Although there is still the matter of the kidnapped soldiers and the rockets being fired into Israel. If those two continue Israel will not stop.
  2. Normally I'm ok with a lot of what Bush does. But this he is, well, I won't say it here. Or if I did it would be more *s than letters! What an idiot. The first thing he vetos and he makes the wrong decision. 5614 for president! Loadsa science reasearch for great pay and no speed limits!
  3. Yep. So you can either buy it or get the codes via "other means" or use freeware. There is some very good freeware spyware removal software such as Lavasoft's Adaware SE Personal and Spybot Search and Destroy.
  4. Yep. I agree. Trends have shown that whereas in the old days a mathematician could basically do any sort of mathematics today, whilst they all have the same fundemental background in mathematics, they have different specialities. This is because the maths is becoming a lot more complex and it is becoming virtually impossible for one person to know everything.
  5. MM: I am saying they do not have as much support as they once did because many Lebanese people are not happy being bombed and some blame Hezbollah. I'm not saying they don't have support, of course they do, they've got thousands, but not as many as they originally did. Israel does not want to occupy. Israel has clearly stated, and diplomatic talks are currently active, to get the Lebanese army to secure Lebanon, because currently Hezbollah is everywhere. The UN is also thinking of installing a UN force between Lebanon and Israel to help the Lebanese army keep the Israel/Lebanon border terrorist (Hezbollah) free. I did not mean that. I was referring to the working class generation. And besides, you can get old terrorists and kids in their early teens are taught how to use guns by groups like Hezbollah, it is a sad fact. This is not my point though. Hezbollah is not an official army. They do not wear uniform. They live with their families, in civilian cities with civilian every day jobs, that's a fact. If you saw a dead middle aged man you think a civilian was killed, my point is that a dead terrorist would look exactly the same, you cannot differentitate. That's my point. What you think is a dead civilian could be a dead terrorist. Phil: Maybe you have never seen those massive pro-Israel or pro-Palestinian marches or campaigns that we have in the UK every few years when some big event happens in the Mid East. You don't get them often, but when you do you get thousands and thousands of people turning up. Maybe you can't see how a connection can exist between UK citizens and people in the Middle East, but many thousands of UK citizens can see a link and do turn up at these rallies to show their support. Similarly people in the USA and Europe sometimes feel a connection. Sometimes through religion. Sometimes they are pro-Israel because of what Islamic militants did on 9/11, the UK bus/train bombings, other attacks across the world etc. sometimes they are anti-semetic so hate Israel and therefore support the militants. Sometimes they went to the country on holiday and liked it. Maybe they have family/friends there. Maybe they were born there. Or maybe in this conflict they have made their mind up and supported one side, for whatever reason. People do feel connections. YT2095 So you're saying that there are currently 10,000 Britons, 25,000 Americans and 20,000 French on holiday in Israel or Lebanon? Sounds too many! Hey look, maybe you're right, I don't have a clue what the real answer. I just don't think "holiday" can account for all of those. I suppose there will be some people there on business too. walrusman Can you run a similar bombing campaign over London, just so I don't feel left out !
  6. I've seen documentaries and articles which say they do, apparently. Can't say I've ever tried one myself though. Maybe someone else will be a bit more enlightening than me!
  7. If you're looking at spyware removal with a cost I like Spyware Doctor.
  8. Maybe they will be angered, and this anger will make them want to continue the violence. But their buildings are being destroyed and their members killed, they don't want that to continue. I think Hezbollah has been weakened in that respect (loss of property and personnel) although I don't think you could ever destroy such a group. The Lebanese thought good of Hezbollah when Israel left southern Lebanon many years ago. More recently, and especially since Hezbollah started the current situation, some Lebanese do not show the same support they showed many years ago when Israel occupied Lebanon. I don't know what you are talking about where you mentioned "collective punishment..." nor do I understand what you think I think is justified, please explain those last 2 sentences in the above quote. I'll just emphasize the previous point. Hezbollah brought this upon the Lebanese people. Some want Hezbollah to fight against Israel, but many blame Hezbollah for this (we're talking about the Lebanese here). mr d: why can you not use capital letters and proper paragraphs?
  9. Phil: The way they compare is if, for example, Iran develops nuclear technology and deploys nuclear weapons across America and Europe. On top of the initial death toll, which could easily match 30,000 (and I'd like to see a good/reliable source which matches that figure, which you gave) you also have all the radiation sickness and after effects of such a massive radioactive blast. As well as this it would destroy modern day life and be the start of WW3. And regarding that #116. I was saying that to some people the Israelis are not strangers 10,000km away. They have some kind of connection. And so whilst there is a physical distance there is still a connection which means they are valued over someone else where there is no connection. MM: Lebanon's PM has no control nor say in the matter. In fact Israel wants the Lebanese army to take over from the Israelis. Israel wants Lebanon to control it's own country, like it was meant to according to a UN resolution. However Lebanon is not militarily strong enough to overcome Hezbollah and so far they have been disregarding the UN resolution which says that the Lebanese army must control its south border with Israel and stop is from being inhabbited by terrorists. New talks have now started between Israel and Lebanon. Now Hezbollah is become slightly weaker there are hopes that the Lebanese army can take control (whereas before Hezbollah was in control). This is one of Israel's main aim. To give the Lebanese army and not Hezbollah control of the country. mr d: I'm not even gonna start reading that. Paragraphs, punctuation (incl. capitalised letters) etc. is needed! I hope ecoli replied in a satisfactory way. More generally: I got a lift with someone today who raised an interesting point. I can't remember the statistics but Hezbollah has a few thousand militias as well as many thousands of reserved people who support them. Except for a few more senior members of Hezbollah, all the militias and supporters (and by supporters I mean people who will fight for Hezbollah) are all "civilians". They are people with everyday jobs who live in civilian areas. However just like people support their Prime Minister or President, so these people support Hezbollah. And just like there are rallies and protests which Westerners go on, so there are wars and fights which these people participate in. They're everyday civilians, but they also fall into the category of "terrorist". So when you hear about a "civilian" death (it could of course be a poor civilian) however it could also be someone who would readily fight for Hezbollah, and whilst is a civilian they should also be classified as a terrorist.
  10. Can you not add a line into the boot.ini file to give you a dual boot option?
  11. Nah, it sounds fine. And interesting. Thanks.
  12. Theoretically, a plasma bubble could be used to block radiation from reaching astronauts on long journeys. If so, then the heavy protective shielding currently necessary could be replaced by a lightweight plasma shield. When traveling into space astronauts fight against cosmic radiation, from the sun and from outside the solar system. For current trips to the moon, the Earth's magnetic field can offer some protection. But if a journey to Mars were undertaken, the astronauts would be vulnerable to radiation, possibly causing cancer. Heavy metal plates would offer enough protection, but they're weight creates complications and makes them impractical for use with regards to take-off. A few grams of plasma hydrogen could solve the problem by providing shielding equivalent to several inches of aluminum. http://www.newscientistspace.com/article/dn9567-plasma-bubble-could-protect-astronauts-on-mars-trip.html

    The Secret

Yep Klaynos. Observations having direct consequences on reality/measurements as mentioned sure sounds like QM to me. Similarly anything called "the secret" sounds like crap to me!
  14. And does reading the book help in any way to solve the encryption? I haven't read it - so do I still have an equal change as someone else who has read the book at solving this?
  15. How can you initiate peace talks when both sides want the other eliminated? What could you say, the only offer you could make they'd accept would include destruction of the other party. Having said that political pressure will play a big role in this and eventually maybe the kidnapped soldiers will be returned, Israel will leave Lebanon alone and Hezbollah stop shooting rockets into Israel. But the problem will not have been solved. Only temporarily put on hold. I don't think she meant it in an Islamaphobic sense. I think she was referring to fundementalist or extremists interpretation of Islam, which is of course quite different from how it was intended to be interpreted. And even is she was Islamaphobic you needn't have brought in all other religions. Nor such a big (and off topic) issue such as "religion is the root of all problems". ----- Severian: I await your (as always) interesting point of view. And may I add; under what circumstances did the IDF point a gun at you?
  16. See my post above yours, I'm guessing it wasn't there when you started replying. See my post #116. Where I replied to Severian when he said about valuing different lives. In theory a human life is a human life, but read the post. (Have fun in your new thread regarding the Iraq war!)
  17. Bettina and Phil: Just something you were discussing earlier about if the Middle East is the bigger problem in the world. Phil, you cannot judge the "biggest problem" based solely on how many people die there each day, which is what you were/are doing. If Iran will make multiple nukes and wipe out most of America tomorrow, then surely that would make them the "biggest problem" today, even though they have not yet killed anyone. See, your 'rating' system is flawed. You are only dealing with how many people die in the present. Not past. Not future. Not potential. Not possibilities. Only the present. The system is fundementally flawed.
  18. Err, if it does happen again, or come anywhere near, or even if it doesn't:
  19. Aeternus: As I am someone who learnt on VB and have not done too much on other programming languages can you please tell me some of these "bad habits" so I can try and avoid them, if they apply to me.
  20. Avast will let you do, what it calls, a boot-time scan. You can get the Home version of Avast for free.
  21. And you suggest what? The Israelis let these people kidnapp soldiers and build up support and weapons? Remember many of these groups are founded purely on various anti-Israel beliefs. If Israel let them build up, become stronger and bigger then in the end they will pose a threat. Their existance (a group like Hezbollah) is purely for destructive purposes. It is the Israelis who they want to destroy. The Israelis will not sit down and let them build a force so they can destroy Israel. Do you see the reasoning there? They want to destroy Israel. If Israel leaves them then they build up an army/weapons to destroy Israel then it's not good for Israel. Israel doesn't want this. Note this is the Israeli view point. But then that is what I am trying to portray right here right now. She didn't say that. And it is off topic. Maybe she feels that way, maybe she doesn't... but it is not the purpose of this thread and it is not being discussed here. She was talking about a specific religion in specific circumstances. They are circumstances which are being discussed in this thread. What you said is not. Don't change the subject. And you put a full stop at the end of the sentence, as if it is a statement. Maybe you feel that way. Or maybe your grammar is bad.
  22. I didn't say I did. Although if where you said "you" you meant "one" (ie. not me specifically) then the response is simple. Maybe you have a child, maybe you do not, but there is (I hope) someone in this world who you love dearly. A parent, partner, child or any member of family. If I had to chose between (if I had one) my child's life and some randomer off the street I would obviously chose to save my child's life. Now if you don't feel that way then fair enough (bit weird, but anyway), this would be the most popular response to the scenario. Similarly some people feel somewhat "in love" with Israel. This is a different kind of love, but still a valid type. Maybe it's the religion, the ideology, the hatred of surrounding countries, the way it is similar to the West or just about any reason. Similarly many people (for many similar reasons) are in love with the Arab countries. Maybe you don't even want to call it love. Maybe just calling it a bond, or some form of connection that one feels with someone or something else. It is this connection that make people value the lives they feel connected with over someone else's they are not connected with. Why should you care? You shouldn't, or should I say you don't, personally, seem to have a reason to. But many people do feel some sort of connection towards Israelis, or if not an anti-connection to Islamic/Arabic extremists who have flown into American buildings, blown up British trains and buses etc. Also no one says the other (as referred to in the quote) is not important. It's just people consider one more of a problem, because of this connection thing. It makes the other seem less important, but no one would ever say it's not a problem. Severian: On a seperate note I am sorry that you seem to have such a bad experience in Israel. I don't know who you ran into or what the situation was, but there are people in all countries who would spit at someone. They are anomalies and do not represent the country, so do not base your views of a country on one indivdual. Especially not one like that. But do remember there are, sadly, people like that in all countries. It's not an "Israeli problem". Again, I don't know the circumstances. But the IDF would only have actually shot you if you were considered a serious security breach who would not comply with commands. Whereas a terrorist would probably shoot you for being a Westerner.
  23. I say Visual Basic is a good first programming language. But get a book to guide you through it. I learnt from Computing projects in Visual Basic - D Christopher. Got it off Amazon. This is the one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1903112338/sr=8-1/qid=1153172151/ref=sr_1_1/102-0040840-5070557?ie=UTF8 Although Visual Basic (the software compiler) is probably quite expensive, unless you get it via other means .
  24. Severian, you have a way with debates like this, just to make everyone hate you! (no offence) You've done it with me before, whatever anyone is saying you just argue against! And to be fair you are quite good at it. Er, unless you are currently living in the Middle East I belive that you are more likely to be killed by an Islamic extremist than the IDF. Whilst Hezbollah does not represent all Islamic extremists I still totally disagree with this quote, unless of course you are living in Lebanon, or sending nuclear technology to Iran or some such. And fair enough if you don't care now about what happens in the Middle East. Maybe you will care when no one stops Iran and they have nuclear technology and start threatening the whole "Western" way of life. But then if you did only care when you yourself are threatend, doesn't that make you a selfish person? Maybe you will care when the death toll reaches many hundreds and thousands? But surely you care somewhat about human lives? Severian, I'm asking you two direct questions here: 1) Would you care if Israel nuked Syria? 2) Would you care if Iran nuked Israel? (Straight yes/no answer. You can expand, but give a y/n) OK. Another direct question(s)1) Do you support Israel? (y/n) 2) [If no to above] how would you describe your feelings towards the two sides? Do you think they're both in the wrong? Do you have a preference of who comes out "on top", whatever that may mean, from these current circumstances?
  25. Eeeew! Me hate bugs and insects and crawlies and cockroaches and flies and spiders and moths...! I normally kill them, unless they're big and scary (ie. 1cm by 1cm!) in which case I run away! Nah. If they're really big you can catch em in a matchbox and let them go outside. Although I do feel that killing off insects is just part of natural selection/evolution and survival of the fittest!
