    Being open minded

I aspire to be a physicist one day. I would like to think that I am close-minded in being that I only believe the truth. I also tend to be very unwilling to believe stuff. If you tell me something sciencey, i want you to prove it, and if you can't, I tend to believe it's a crock of crap.
  2. Molality is Moles of solute / kg of solvent. Do you remember learning Raoult's Law? It had a little something talking about the Kf and freezing point that directly relates to molality. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raoult%27s_law

I've noticed you just love argueing semantics don't you? As an edit, I find it funny, that I posted that before even reading the rest of the thread. YEAH ME! I'm in the smart group
  4. Smaller unit, the meter would be a smaller unit Also, if light speed were slower, would that would make weird chemistry, because the electromagnetic force would be much slower as well...

    Hg

Yep, Yep. I know what SR and GR is. But when ijust hear the word 'relativity' i tend to think GR. After thinking through it a little bit i realized my error.
  6. It doesn 't matter if it would cost us less to bail them out. Bailing them out is wrong. If GM wants to pay people to stand around all day they deserve to go out of business. Let a new less-retarted car company take its place. GM just went and f'd up when they decided a few years ago that the market was in SUV's. They figured oh, we can make SUV's for the same as a small car and cost the consumer 20thousand more dollars. Lets do it! So now they are getting screwed for screwing us. Let them die.

    Hg

This barely fits in this category, so forgive me. I was wondering the other day in Chemistry why Hg (mercury) was a liquid at STP. I looked into it a little bit and found out that mercury was also the only metal that didn't form a diatomic molecule when in a gaseous state. I read on it, and it said something about the valence electrons of mercury being in the 6s orbital, and the fact that it was so close to the nucleus that the electrons flew at really high speeds around the nucleus and relativity took effect and the mass of those electrons increased. My question is, I thought that relativity couldn't work on such small scales as electrons and such? Or maybe I've just misunderstood it all. Clarification?
  8. Because a meter is defined as how far light travels in 1⁄299,792,458 of a second.
  9. Yeah, the race card was played a whole lot. I find it funny though that while 47% of white's supported Obama 97% of blacks supported him as well. Maybe the racism is reversed from what was originally being slung around?
  10. I have reason to be skeptical of the arguments of Mr. Skeptic.
  11. Isn't photons what you measure to check temperature? Don't we check temperature by radiation of... photons? So I guess it's like saying does elephant have elephant?
  12. Maybe so many people are against it just because the idea of that is kinda icky.
  13. I'm using Newton's method to find the zero for this problem [math] \left( x^3 + 2x^2 - 4)^{\frac{1}{3}} [/math] Meh, I can't use latex. The Cube root of X^3 + 2x^2 - 4 Anyways, I've ran it through a few times with my initial guess being 1. The first itme I ran it through i got 2 as my answer, and then the second time my answer jumped over the actual root (which is 1.18 or something) to be .28942.... i checked my work and it's correct. Why would it do that?
  14. Just use l' opitals rule!
  15. A great deal is what I meant. And too much is my opinion.
  16. Maybe he realized his vote wouldn't count?
  17. No, I'm willing to pay for the food I get. And it's not the amount of food they give us (which is decent) it's WHAT they give us. For example, today at lunch they served: Salad, Peaches, Pears, and Grapes. How many calories do you think that entails? Not enough for 1/3 of your daily intake. Unless you're fat.
  18. I define the word liberal just as it is used in conversation. To apply something liberally, to much of. If you want too much of something (government control or bananas) then you are a liberal.
  19. God, that is one thing I hate about liberals. The entire one-size fits all policy. Because most kids in America are obese our school system passed some ban on any food containing more than 100 calories. I am severely underweight and can't get more than 250 calories during a school lunch, and am losing weight because of it. This is why big government is bad. Big government runs on the idea that most people are stupid, and they need someone to tell them the simple things, like what to eat. In my opinion, if you are too stupid to put down the fork, you deserve to be fat, it is not the governments job to do anything about it. Stuff like that is government for the stupid, by the stupid. The only problem is, most people are stupid and NEED the government to tell them not to eat too many cookies. Screw stupid people. /rant If you weer wondering where that came from, it was a reaction to abolishing nuclear power plants (because stupid people think they are unsafe), and the handing everyone a condom comment.
  20. I'm a really really weird breed. In a social sense I'm about as evangelical as they can get (born and raised in a Pentecostal church, still actively involved in it), but I don't vote based on that. From a governmental sense I'm also very odd, because while from a pure idealogical standpoint I think that communism would be the best form of government ever, but I know that isn't possible, so the next best (in my opinion) is the opposite extreme. Well, not extreme, that would be anarchy, but as little government as possible. I would define my party as 'Libertarian' if I had any shot of winning any election at all, but I'm mostly a republican. I go on the belief that you should be allowed to do whatever the hell you want (pursuit of happiness) as long as you don't bother anyone else in the process. My politcal ideaology is based on a little idea that if you were walking down the street and you saw someone getting mugged and punched in the face, you'd feel terrible about him because he was being wronged. However, you could watch a boxing match on the television and not feel terrible. Why? Because the boxer chooses to be punched in the face, while the guy getting mugged does not. So my stances on the issues are really effected by that. For example, I'm against the abortion, because unless you get written consent from the fetus I don't think you should kill it. While at the same time gay marriage doesn't bother me because they are both allright with sticking it in the other dudes bunghole. Less government is good government in my opinion. I really do think the Bush tax cuts were good, and tax cuts not to the rich, but to corporations are a good thing. Reagan was my favorite president, and I would really like the party that I identify closest to (Republican) get back to it's roots. I really liked McCain before he ran for president.
  21. Actually, now that I think about it, Palin wouldn't have a shot at getting the nomination. Her support base (Evangelicals) would be split with good 'ol Mike Huckabee. Look for Romney to make a campaign run. I liked Romney . Then again, I really liked McCain before he changed to run for the presidency...
  22. Well then we will just have to amend our constitution then won't we?
  23. Forcing people to do stuff is terrible. NOW if they are receiving money for their education (college), it can be understandable. I have community service hours I have to meet if I want to maintain some of my scholarships.
  24. The point of democracy is the will of the people, even if the will of the people isn't the right thing to do.
  25. God, I hope someone slightly reputable decides to run for the GOP nomination, because I sure as hell don't want to be forced to vote Palin. As a side question, I know here, in West Virginia, that when you are registered as a republican or democrat in the primaries you are only allowed to vote on that party, is that true in other states as well?
