But do I mix the two solutions or precipitate the lithium hydroxide first and then add it to the HCl? Ken

I want to make some Bismuth oxide so that I can precipitate some Bismuth chloride later with it. How would I go about making to Bismuth oxide if the metal just melts when a flame is applied? Thanks, Kenneth Anderson

Will lithium metal stop reacting with water when the solution (lithium hydroxide) becomes super saturated? If not, what is the proper ratio of lithium metal to water to make a lithium hydroxide solution? Would I then evaporate the solution to obtain lithium hydroxide crystals which would be reacted with hydrochloric acid to make a lithium chloride solution which would be evaporated, or would I just mix the lithium hydroxide solution with the hydrochloric acid and then evaporate? What is the proper ratio of lithium hydroxide solution to hydrochloric acid? What is the proper ratio of lithium hydroxide crystals to hydrochloric acid? Or is all of this just in vain and I can just react lithium metal with hydrochloric acid? If so, what is the ratio of lithium metal to hydrochloric acid? Thank you, Kenneth Anderson

When you want to precipitate a compound from a solution, say from an experiment where magnesium chloride is obtained from the reaction of hydrochloric acid and magnesium metal, do you let the solution evaporate completely or do you wait until a significant amount of crystals have formed and then filter it? Thanks, Ken

The mineral Calcite reacts with Hydrochloric Acid by slowly dissolving it and producing carbon dioxide and water. Ken

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I have a question about the process of separating Iodine from tincture from that Sci-Spot link. After I have filtered the solution and the crystals are sitting on the coffee filter, how long can I leave them out for? Considering how wet they are, they'd have to dry out but that may take too long and they could subliminate before they finished drying. Should I wait until they are dry or should I just take them and put them into a container while they are still wet? Also, should they be washed with water so they are not coated with bleach and HCl? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ken

Catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide

If it yields I2, can the Iodine be separated from the solution through evaporation ? Ken -
"Do as ya outta, add the acid to the watta; if you feel your life's to placid, add the watta to the acid." Anyways I recently bought some concentrated sulfuric acid from Ace Hardware under the name of "Rooto Professional Drain Opener". Doesn't have any percentages on it, but it has enough warnings and instructions on it to turn even the "Queen of Clean" away. Ken

I find that if I procrastinate until the night before something is due, my work is generally better. This is probably because I have all my ideas set in order in my head at one time, whereas if I worked on it over a period of time, it wouldn't flow. Ken

I just wanted to get an opinion from a more informed group. Is 3% (over-the-counter) Hydrogen peroxide safe to swish around to help whiten teeth? I've heard from many sources that it is, others say it will destroy the enamel. Thanks, Kenneth Anderson

I don't know. It doesn't look varnished to me. But I only cleaned it out with water. Maybe I'll try it on something else and see if it does the same thing. Ken

Well it actually isn't aluminum foil, its a strip I cut off of a washed soda can. I used the un-printed side, though.

Great! Thank you Insane_Alien and YT for all of your help! I think I have a better understanding of the math behind chemistry now. Ken

Finally, here is all of my math, hopefully correct: Thanks, Ken

So 1.0g Zn = 15mmol? Ken
-
One more thing: How did you get 15mol Zinc and 30mol HCl? Thanks, Ken
-
So, if I'm doing my math correctly, if I had a 40% solution of HCl instead of 30%, I would need 2.75ml of of it? Thanks, Ken
-
Wow thats a lot of zinc. I am having trouble understanding the measurement of moles. Just to make sure I'm have this right, would I take 2ml of 30% HCl and dissolve 1 gram of zinc in it? Or does the amount change because it's 30% and not 100%? Thanks, Ken Oh, never mind YT explained it. So what would I have to do to get the amount required for 30% HCl?

Pwnd.

So that would be 1 part Zinc to 2 parts Hydrochloric acid? Sorry if I have it way wrong, I'm kind of new at this. Thanks, Ken
-
What would be the proportion/ratio of zinc metal to hydrochloric acid to make a zinc chloride solution, which in in turn would be evaporated to precipitate zinc chloride crystals? Thanks, Ken

I just thought of something. What would all this mean for Salt and Vinegar potato chips? Kenneth Anderson

So would that leave you with anhydrous Magnesium sulfate? Kenneth Anderson

lol There he goes again! probably.....

What I meant was, would it be like 30% HCl, or 50%, or whatever? Kenneth Anderson
