[hide]4100[/hide]? As you asked what my answer is, I'm right anyway.

Stand bewteen two tectonic plates and tell me that

Where Does Space End? It Must End Somewhere!

In very simple terms, what evidence is there that the expansion of the universe is accelerating? -
Thats one to tell the grandchildren.
-
Tectonic plate movement.

You answered your own question there. Where a finite subset of the universe ends, something, rather than nothing begins. That something is the next subset of the universe. Whoops didn't realise this thing went beyond one page and had just been resurrected! -
Purple=red+blue Intersection colour=purple+red+yellow=red+red+blue+yellow red+blue+yellow=black Interersection colour= black+red=dark red Just guessing.

I wasn't so much trying to answer the question than to help the OP understand why the answer is what it is. If we blindly tell him that the end result of stirring a fluid is a warmer fluid, then he might make the error of stirring his cup of tea in a field in siberia and expecting that to be a magical way to ensure his tea doesn't cool down. More accurately, I'm being awkward because he posted the thread twice.
-
Ok then, the answer is "Not enough information"- Isn't that usually d) in 4th grade multiple choice questions? I'm sure he'll get the answer by posting the thread in more than one section though
-
Did you not already ask this in the homework help section and get a perfectly adequate answer?

I'm interested to hear what you have to say but I disagree. The rate of work input is a function of the stirring speed and the size and shape of the spoon. And as there's nowhere for the work to go other than to be converted to heat by friction, this is the rate of heat input by stirring. Heat transfer between the beaker and its surroundings is a function of the temperature difference for conduction and convection and of difference between temperatures raised to power 4 for radiation, so the rate of heat flow into/ out of the beaker depends on temperature difference. The change in sensible heat is equal to the rate of work in minus the rate of heat flow out, so if work in is equal to heat out, the sensible heat will remain constant; if the work in is greater than heat out, sensible heat will decrease; and if the heat out is greater than the work in, sensible heat will decrease. Temperature is proportional to sensible heat. I'm probably coming across as awkward, but I'm just trying to provoke deeper thought so that this simple homework question can lead to greater things!

It depends on the initial water temperature, ambient temperature, speed of stirring, size of stirring device and the shape of the water. If you sit outside in the winter with a mug of tea, its going to take a lot of stirring to stop it from going cold.

Of course, they'll break up before reching terminal velocity. A badger dropping teabags from a tree would be a better question.

Thats an American thing. In England, Asian is generally used to refer to Indians and Pakistanis, much like it is used to refer to orientals in America.

Also, blue is one syllable and physicists are lazy.

Glad someone has thier head screwed on straight

I think the question here should be why, not how. A diesel powered generator is going to cost more to run than your share of several large scale power stations, it will produce more pollution, and you'll have the sound of a diesel engine constantly echoing through your house.
-
Perhaps you should worry

Rub two popsicle sticks together until they catch fire. Light the reamining sticks and the paper. Place the egg over the fire. Your yolk is now protected from reasonably high drops

Edit: Whoops misread it.

I wasn't talking of any idealistic freedom, I was merely cataloguing my contempt for embryo's shortly after conception, which in my opinion are no more human than the billions of sperm that the average frustrated teenager throws away every year. How is abortion a short time after conception any different to using the morning after pill because a sligtly tipsy couple can't be bothered with a condom? Many people have chosen to slide down this slippery slope, so I can't see why using readily available abortion as a premeditated convenience will be any less frowned upon. The mystical powers of the cosmos shouldn't be considered here. I think that religion should not take a part in a discussion on a science forum. Being pro choice rather than for abortion is merely a term that pro-choice organisations chose to force upon us. I think it is clear that by for abortion I mean for the allowance of abortion freely within society to those who desire it rather than going round forcing every pregnant woman to abort her child until the human race dies out. As for your last comment, I don't understand what you're getting at. Was that aimed at me?
-
What? So the way rugs read the internet is less important than the way people read it?
-
The line where a foetus becomes human is a hazy one, but as long as it's done early, I think abortion is entirely acceptable, rape or not. What is so special about the moment a sperm enters an egg to say after that abortion should not be allowed? Having said that, if society takes that view, there is the risk of people not even bothering with contraception because they know abortion is readily available. Whats everyones opinion on the power a father should have? A lot of people seem to think it should be entirely down to the woman, which I think is wrong.

I used to play in tournaments against other schools with the school chess club. Now I just play a couple of games on MSN chess every weekend, which probably makes me rustier if anything!

What do you not like about SFN?

I think that it would be a lot easier to check up on new posts if the less regularly used forums were merged. I know there's a "new posts" option, but I feel a lot mroe comfortable checking each forum seperately to be sure I've not missed anything. Maybe its just me being mildy obsessive.
