  1. Americans (I am one) do seem to be a little more uptight about swear words. Note that the N-word is not included in the list. I am as yet unprepared to comment on the sociological implications of this observation, but it does seem as if it might be an important distinction.
  2. Son Doong cave is now on the bucket list.
  3. I find the following work to be useful, even to a non-religious person like myself. And if you can find the fully illustrated one, it's quite handsome. http://www.amazon.com/The-Happiness-10th-Anniversary-Edition/dp/1594488894/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379025334&sr=8-1&keywords=art+of+living+dalai+lama I linked to this edition at Amazon because there is a preview.
  4. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8083230.stm I'm willing to bet that if someone named any facet of human behavior or experience and combined it with the word "laughing" on an internet search that they could find a verifiable incidence of that behavior or circumstance concurrent with laughter of some kind. Here's a PubMed abstract about Neuroendocrine and stress hormone changes during mirthful laughter.http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2556917 I don't think I'm qualified to say what that all means, but I am going to make an effort to laugh more. Just seem's like a good idea.
  5. http://www.humor.ch/images/Brighton.pdf One page. It's what came at the top of a search of "humor fmri".
  6. @too-open-minded; I am not a doctor, but I've had Juvenile diabetes for about 30 years now, and no health insurance for most of it. For your situation, this is what you can do. Only because it is a matter of life and death and only for that reason will I say this one time; go to WalMart. WalMart has a line of products in their pharmacy called ReliOn. You want a glucometer, I recommend the ReliOn Prime. It will come with an automatic lancing device and some lancets. It will cost about $15, give or take a buck or two. You will need test strips to go with the glucometer. For the Prime they will cost about $10 for 50 of them. I have never been asked for a prescription when buying testing supplies. Test your bloodsugar often. On waking, and before and after eating. If you have several readings over about a week that exceed 140 mg/dl then that means you need to see some kind of health care professional fairly soon. Normal is between 80 and 110 mg/dl.
  7. DOH! Well, thanks for the answer.
  8. DOH! Yeah I meant "associative", but hey, "distributive" was an interesting question as well. Just out of curiosity, what is an applied example of multiplying scalars? That is, in modeling what situation, would a person use that?
  9. When adding 2 vectors by the parallelogram method, it seem's obvious that the operation is always commutative, although I'm not sure how to go about constructing a proof of this. When adding >2 vectors is the operation always distributive?
  10. In another forum I had noticed at least two mentions of V2K. Apparently in "popular" parlance it is an acronym for "voice to skull". I googled V2K, and my browser recommended the addition of "mind control". I got hundreds of hit's. All fairly consistent in their subject matter, concerning mind control, gang stalking, etc... There appears to be a monumental body of social activity around "V2K", comparable to "UFO's", "ghost's", etc... There also appears, unsurprisingly, to be a significant correlation between belief in V2K and schizophrenia. I have yet to formulate a definitive question concerning these observations, but I think it is fascinating to consider the implications of this and other similar social phenomena. Particularly, within the context of a nodal network model of society. Really, I'm just interested in others thought's and observation's concerning this. Perhaps some link's to research or paper's dealing with this subject?
  11. Salutations all. For those that don't know me, I occupy a very general position in average society. Currently I number amongst the working poor. I have no scientific specialties, nor hold any degrees, although I am a relentless, if not efficient, autodidact. I have, as of late, been attempting to discipline myself to the study of math's, as I see it as a prerequisite to the proper understanding of any science. I'm not quite old enough for membership in the grumpy old persons club, but I ain't no spring chicken either. I am an avid player of Disk Golf. I have a whole bag of orange disk's. That color is relatively easy to spot. I would be more than happy to discuss the sport with any other participant's. I noticed some familiar names from another board. Hello Doc, Ophie, inow. Glad to see you guy's. I'm hoping some others might be here as well. By the way Doc, how's the Smullyan & Fitting book on Set Theory? Do you like it?
