Some people will have a bad memory for many of the reasons already stated. However everyone has memory lapses - they might not be so bad. Some people notice it more than other. Young people seem to just pass it off as lack of sleep, drink tiredness, boredom etc.. whereas the old can get a bit paranoid about it and they put it down to getting old. (Sorry - can't remember where I read this - maybe New Scientist YEARS ago I think) - The thing that the article I read suggested was that the old people that blamed their memory loss on old age were in the most part, just as scatterbrained as they were when they were younger, but shrugged it off during youth. What I'm trying to say is (I guessing you're young not old), when you get older - remember that you were forgetfull when you were younger so you won't worry that you are loosing youre mind. You might actually get a bit sharper - which in turn might cause you to think and dwell on the fact that you forgot something and start theorising about it being due to old oge - whereas you are most likely to be youre same old scatterbrained self that has been the same for years. (Unless that person actually is suffering from Alziemers or something, but the point is that is not the norm). lol - I hope that made sense, I think I might be begining to waffle more as I am getting older.

So - is there any terrorist threat from the thousands of Afgan and Iraqi asylum seekers that have come here or not? Politically left people seem to think not. The right of centre people might not be so quick to be sure. The BNP (because they are racist idiots) don't care and wouldn't let them in in the first place for any reason. Also - why do they come here over the rest of Europe?
-
Would the reaction be more facile if diluted right down some or done in an ice bath or something? Or if the reagents were added slowly and drop wise from an addition funnel, burette or pipette?

Thing is Jimmy, we have measures in place where people in danger can seek asylum from their danger and can migtate to western countries. However, most of them keep moving through the whole of Europe and and most head for England. Some British people (who wouldn't in their right minds begrudge anyone asylum) were concerned that instead of being equally distributed across western nations, most seemed to come here - why? Is the UK doing something different to welcome them that others don't? Do they get better treatment here than in France, say or Germany? The real worry (which may or may not be a real threat - which is why it needs discussion) is whether the one that come from countries that we are at war with have alternate agendas. It seems dumb to allow thousands of citizens in from a country in which we are waging a war. We wouldn't have let the Germans in during WWII in case of spy's or terrorists. So why have we taking thousands of Afgans and Iraqis since the wars started? Surely for security reasons we should have insisted that refugees from those areas stopped in mainland Europe (which they are suppose to do anyway - they are ment to stop in countries they are safe - not ALL flock to the UK). Ask these questions at all and you get misjudged as racist rather than having a natuarl concern for national security. The answers maybe straight forward and innocent and there may be no threats at all. If so - why are we not allowed to talk about it?

Here, here. I've just glimpsed at their website. They are still racist and have some really insensitive ways of stating things. Alot of people do follow them so I agree, they should be debated with and edjucated. We also need to listen to why they have their concerns and address them. Surely it is the job of ALL political parties to listen to the people and then address their problems - not deny they exist and demonise people for even raising the issues.

I agree. Personally my own politics are quite right of centre. I would like to see a party somewhere between the Tory and the BNP.. i.e. the BNP without their abhorent racism. Or a stricter conservative party. I would have like them to have had a more ballanced discussion though. (It seems such topics as imigration and national security can't be discussed without one side branding the other as racist). The program started with Jack Straw ranting on for 5 mins as to why he thought Nick Griffin and his BNP were wrong. I kind of agreed in the most part, but then they kept asking him loaded questions and quoting out of context with things he said years ago and has already retracted - then didn't really give him proper time to respond. As for NG's constant refusal to be able to answer a direct question - well - all the polaticians do that anyway. lol.

This one on the U-Tube video gets filled in as the song plays. Always liked the song, was strangely pleasing to see the elements filled in as the song plays.

Sounds like you have made up your mind already - with what is it that you need help? If it is proof one way or the other you won't get it. If it is confirmation or denounciation of your faith - that is up to you either way to choose. Not really. It was done in 6 "days". I always thought of these days as "time periods" that could have been millions of years. No one knows.

Anyone here a Kiwi?!? http://www.invadenewzealand.com/

Maybe offer more than Two Hundered and Fifty Dollars and you'll get a better response?....... I hate the European way of using a decimal point instead of a comma... Just confuses matters worldwide. What will it take to get the French to use a dot as a decimal point like normal people? $250.00 is two fifty dollar. $250,000.00 or $250,000 or $250000.00 or $250K or $250000 is a quarter of a mil. 250.000$ is back to front and follows NO worldly accepted notation.

'Twas a good question though! Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedThinking about it though - it would be unworkable. If you rep'ed me and I'd already rep'ed you before, then my rep would increase, which would backdate and increase your rep, in turn increasing mine... and so on! It would be like our own little perpetual motion machine!

Personally I reckon that if the tensions, thicknesses and lengths were identical then the strings would probably sound slightly different if made with different materials. When tuning a guitar though, you don't measure the tension you apply through the strings, you do it by ear and listen to the pitch and tune that in to the right note (same even if you use a machine - it tunes to pitch not string tension). Thus I will stick out my neck and say that if you tuned in a steel string to top E and then a Brass one, a silvered silk one, a nylon one and a Phos/Bronze one - all into top E exactly - then the tensions in the string would be marginally different (by how much and how detectable - I don't know). ALSO!!! more importantly - even though ALL of then are tuned to top E exactly - they would sound very subtley different. (same note - slightly different "shade" or "colour" - depending how you define it). For example - the phos bronze strings sound brighter and the silvered steel softer. The sound will also be effected by the attack of teh pick on the string so the material should have some subtle effect on this. This can be demonstrated more clearly by changing the material of your pick and listening to the change in the sound made by the string (same note!! different level of attack on the sound by a different material hitting the string. - my guess would be a harder, squarer wavefront for a harder material and a softer, rounder wavefront for a softer one). I am speculating here - but pretty confident. If anyone knows for sure then please speak up.

I can't give a scientific explanation, but I think that the answer is "Yes". Mainly because I play the guitar and different string sets do sound different. Phosphor/Bronze strings, for example, seem to give a "Brighter or richer" sound than plain steel. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedHere: http://guitar.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=guitar&cdn=hobbies&tm=52&f=00&su=p284.9.336.ip_p504.3.336.ip_&tt=2&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.stringitup.com/stringitup/strinan101.html Click on the links to the different materials - they give an idea of the different sounds the strings make - doesn't explain why though. Basically it says that Phosphor-bronze are brighter sounding and silver coated are softer. Hope it is usefull - otherwise, search around a bit more.

Did anyone catch Derren Brown last week? (re. all birds moving as one, and sub conscious brain sync-ing) - He hypnotised a guy in a cafe using syncronisation and mirroring techniques (supposedly used by spys abroud in the war according to him - I don't actually know). It didn't work on the first woman, but a bloke came in and sat opposite him on another table. DB mirrored his movements body twitches and sips of coffe for about 15 mins untill he had the guy "in Sync" as he called it. THEN - he started instegating the movements and took the lead by doing things like reaching for the drink first and the target guy started to follow his every move. DB then started yawning and stretching and slouching and the guy started doing the same untill he dropped off - which is when DB jumped up, ran over and put hypnotic suggestions in his head to go and steal a tv from the shop down the road - which the guy attemped to do when he finnished his coffee. Very impressive - if a bit scary.

Hmmm - not sure about the health and safety aspects of have these 2 machines boxed so closely together -- they are quantum devices after all. Also, I'm sure what effect they would have on my cat.

In all science questions you always assume STP unless otherwise stated. The Answer IS D. Water IS blue NOT clear. Even in a glass it is blue - it just appears clear to us, it IS blue - the answer HAS to be D. A common chemistry question is "Why is water blue?" - ANS: Because of all of the free electrons in it.

because they are sheep! and the people that knowingly stirr them into a deeper ignorant stupor are baaaa..stards!

Yea - I rekon you need to get fitter - do some gentle excersise over the winter and do some occasional bowling practice to build up the muscles. Hopefully next year wont be so painfull for you once you are fitter.
-
I would go for D. Water is not colourless. It looks that way in small quanterties. In larger quanterties water is blue. This due to the free electrons in water - they give the blue colour.

Ask your supervisor what to brush up on for some general revision. On the whole you're pretty much home now. The viva is just confirmation that your thesis is your own work and that you understand it. Well done ajb - I rekon you'll breeze through it! Unfortunately, however you you get told that the viva is just a formality - you still get really nervous an hour before. All you have to do is sit there and answer their questions - you can't expect to know everything, so don't panic if they ask you something you don't know - just tell them the truth and tell them you are going to make an educated guess (rather than taking a guess and hoping they don't see that you don't really know the answer). Good luck - just go and nail it! Crack open a bottle of your favourite and enjoy it with some friends. Well done!

Jupiter is great! We looked at it through the university's telescope in their observatory. We saw 6 of it's moons all lined up in a plane. You can see the spot too. We all kno about it, but it is still great to see with your ow eyes through a big telescope. Autum /early winter was a good time to see it over here IIRC.

I know what you mean - but really, the word Quantun, just means an amount. Quantum mechanics is the study of things such as energy that come in descrete amounts - "the energy is quantised" just means that the energy just comes is exact amounts. So, I'm going to build a quantum coffe machine! It measures out the coffe, water and sugar in descrete amounts. (and some times it dissapears into the next room!).
