  1. taurine. This is what goes into Red Bull I think. Definately a stimulant though. Just googled it - here is wiki page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurine - yuck.
  2. I was walking down the street and this 5'5", 22 stone woman walked past. "Fatty!" I cried heartlesly. "You can't talk to me like that" She replied "You're Fattist!" "NO" I said "I believe you're the Fattest"
  3. What about some one who holds a prejudiced bigotry against evolution? e.g Person A: "I believe in creation - you guys are stupid for looking at the rocks" Person B: "you can't say that! That's Evolutionist!"
  4. Hopefully one of the physics experts can comment, but I was always lead to believe that temperature was the measure of the systems energy from the molecules KE, Rotational and vibrational energies put together. (I doubt electronic fine structure and energy would contribute at all). Think about it - if a slow moving, fast spinning molecule collides with a slow moving slow spinning one then several things can happen... The second molecule 'may' get some energy transfered from the first and go off quickly spinning slowly, slowly spinning quickly, medium paced and spinning at a medium pace... or it may spin off very slowly and have been set vibrating quickly.... There is no way to predict it short of building a clasical model and treating them as balls connected by springs.. in ALL cases though - the energy of the system will be constant. So your theory of rotation not contributing to T cannot be true (because rotational energy and translational and vibrational energy is interchanged with each collision).
  5. - I've a bone to pick with my old chemistry teacher! When we aere at school she told me that most cars, her VW Golf esspecially had their tracking set up so that it would , very slightly, pull to the left if you let go of the steering wheel. This, she said, was so that if someone falls asleep at the wheel on the motorway then they would veer off onto the verge rather than go across into the lanes with the oncoming traffic..... I don't forget things like that - and why wouldn't I have believed her!? She was my chemistry teacher. 15-20 years on now I have just had my tracking done on my car (after small accident) and the guy asked if it felt alright. I suggested that there may have been a very slight pull to the left, but believed that this was OK/fairly normal. They laughed out loud at my expense at the suggestion the tracking should be anything other than dead straight and said that what I had been told was a myth.... Well, it makes sense it should be straight, but how the hell was I to know considering it was my science teacher that told us this! I'm off to vote in Reaper's thread! It is a conspiricy after all! Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedPS - sorry about the threadnomancy - didn't think that this warranted a new thread!
  6. Atom bomb testing?... "Here - put on these sunglasses to protect your eyes and hide behind that sand bag - we'll be alright! It's at least a mile away." The philadelphia expt.? (maybe mainly fiction, but interesting) When drug testing trials go wrong, or worse when they are passed out for public use and then faults are discovered - like thalidimine? Not a very nice stories though - the consequenses can be horrific and tragic. Sure their must be more interesting and less serious ones, but my brain isn't working at the moment. Just played first game of badminton in about 2 years - can hardly walk or think right now. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged...or think!
  7. Fits the up slope within the error bars though.
  8. Well you do live in a democracy! and the majority of people voted for him - so it is his turn to have go. So lets see what he does, that's all I'm saying. I'm sure he'll upset some people - that's politics - but give him a chance as the majority of people want to see what he's going to do.
  9. Thank you UC - now I've got home, thought about it some more and discussed it with the wife - I was about to say that the Br will add across both sides of the double bond. I think that's what dg means. As you stated - differing reaction conditions and addition of catalysts may give something else (like replacement of the acid group or OH)
  10. Not sure with the Br2 - Perhaps Hermantrude can help you - he's good at this stuff. If it was HBr though - I would say you should look at the "Markovnikov rule". I think that would suggest that the H from the HBr would go to the Carbon from the double bond which origionally had the most Hydrogens already - and the Br would go to the Carbon nearest the COOH..... although I would wait for Hermantrude (or someone elase who knows what they are talking about) to reply before taking my word for it.
  11. I'd say you'd have to give the man some time. He will undoubtedly upset some people (who was it that said "you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please ALL the people ALL of the time"? - I think it might have been Confusious ()). He is a human being - but as I see it there is a buzz about him which may for the short term bring a bit of hope, trust and expectation to the world/US... I'm not sure what I'm trying to say here really -I might well be speaking dross - except, give the guy a chance - and don't jump on him for the first mistake he makes or the first time he declares a policy you don't like. Otherwise he is destined to fail anyway. I doubt he will bring about world peace, a free health service for all and a way out of rescession overnight - but please give him a chance to try.
  12. If you don't have the money to produce these designs then take your ideas and present them to large company. They should love your ideas if they are as good as you say they are. They can then buy them off of you and produce them theirselves.
  13. Well perhaps I lied about the orange and math being connected. What's really happening shadow is that I am allowing you to read my mind over the internet!
  14. YEA!! Do I hear an AMEN!?? (Even if your not religious - you've got to agree) Come on - lets make it happen!. P - feeling the luv from the UK!
  15. Just heard a bit of his inauguration speech on way home in car. I got a bit emotional. In this time of turmoil, war and financial unrest - I sincerely hope he is as successful a president you have had. Good luck guys! God Bless America! God Bless Barack Obama!
  16. Every 4 seconds?? Really?
  17. No shit SH3RL0CK!!!!! :D:D
  18. I think they'd do some shopping, go to one of the worlds amusement parks to have a go on a roller coaster, then maybe take in a film. ? Maybe they'd ask for an audience with the president of the USA or the UN. Maybe they'd have tea with the Queen of England? They probably wouldn't bother going to France though. (Unless they wanted to try out their new heat ray or something like that:-p).

    Autism Test

lol - low is supposed to be good. 'They' have been talking about selectively breeding out autism from society you know. I scored 22 - borderline normal.
  20. If you compress it - the temperature will increase - so to keep the temperture constant, you need to remove energy from the system by cooling it in some way - so yes - if you increase the pressure of a liquid whilst providing a cooling effect to keep the temperature constant, then the liquid will freeze (depending on where you are on the phase diagram for that liquid as Klaynos said).
  21. I believe physical fitness is important as well as very acedemic performance.
  22. Sorry. I do hope I am wrong though.
  23. The thing with a war that has been going on for SOOO long is - that there is no simple peaceful solution that will please both sides. It's very sad. Some people will take the Israeli side and others the Arabs. It is very difficault to discuss without arguing. If it was that simple then I guess it wouldn't have turned into a nasty war in the first place.
  24. tree - probably before you came to Canterbury, but about 10-15 years ago everyone on campus was talking about a spate of robberys in Hearne Bay. They hired/stole a JCB and just ripped the thing out of teh wall from a high street banck in Hearn Bay - they drove it to the beach - smashed it open and got away with the cash in boats. They ad a couple of successful runs at tis before getting caught trying the same thing again. Too greedy - they should have stopped at getting away with it once.
