  1. OK - If all the angles in a triangle are the same as the angles in a different triangle with longer or shorter sides... the RATIO of the lengths of the sides will be the same. Look at these 2 triangles:- Triangle ABC is 'similar' to triangle ADE yes? Angle BCA is the same as angle DEA right? AB is parallel to AD and AC is parallel to AE. The 2 triangles are said to be similar. We can make some statements... Angel ABC is equivalent to ADE. Angle DAE is equivalent to BAC etc... we can also say that the ratio of the lengths of the sides are the same... So - Length AB divided by Length AC is the same as length AD divided by length AE. AB/AC = AD/AE. This goes for all the ratios of all the other side lengths as well, so, In your diagram you are taking the length of the side of the small triangle 'x' and dividing it by the height 10m. This is then equal to the same ratio of side in the larger triangle.. the length x+20 meters along the bottom divided by the height of the larger triangle 'y'. You can then write an equation that shows that the ratio of the sides is equal, x/10 = (x+20)/y. In my triangle, comparing the same lengths as the ones in your example I can say that AC/BC = AE/DE The rest is algebra/math and is about rearranging the equation.
  2. You know why they are similar yes? The angles are all the same.... this means that the ratio of the sides will be the same.... So- the triangle with base x has the same ratio of x/10 as the larger triangle of base 20+x.... the ration of it's sides being (20+X) / y. Therefore we can say x/10 = (20+X)/y and solve from there. Any clearer?
  3. I'll have to admit that I do not know being honest - do you? I know what you are saying. The guy isn't a bad lad though imo. He has a republican and a Christian background/upbringing/brainwashing - I can understand fully why he takes the stance he does and says the things he does. What do you expect him to say? He is echoing his family views, the views of his pastor - people he KNOWS and trusts and respects and sees face to face daily. People that have looked out for him all his life and shown him love and encouragement. He seems to care - as do MOST people when you get to know them. I don't know what it would take to win him over - I used to be similar with my own politics and religion.... I don't know - can you see what I am saying here? If you can't get along with HIM then how are you going to get your message across to the people that really matter - the core followers of DT and the real right wingers and pure nationalists? If you can't and you block him then you end up in your own echo chambers and never get your message out assuming that all that disagree with you are extremists... There are SO many of them as was evident from your last election and from the UK/EU referendum. Blocking them and dismissing them as extremists seems to lead to them withdrawing to their own little echo chambers which confirm their own world beliefs. You can't just sweep them under the carpet - there are too many off them and if you do - you just embitter them and make them more evangelical towards their right wing causes. It is depressing to see. I'm not saying you should agree with him... just keep the argument going I suppose.... Good luck and best wishes anyway.
  4. Tried to rescue a Bee today...  I am way too soppy...  I fished it out of a pool of water that was probably alkaline due to the cement. I hope the little fella/girl is OK.  I put it on a leaf over the fence but it fell into the bushes.  It seemed to have some strength left in it so it might survive.  Just gotta leave it and hope it survives - it probably has more chance in the bushes than it did in the cement water.

I do this a lot with bees - I never know if they survive or not... some are just too weak. I have tried sugar solution in the past with varying successes and fail rates - Sometimes they tuck in and sometimes they are too far gone..

I guess every little helps.  :-(

being fair - I think it is them that are eating all the wood louse - there are shells all over the floor in the entrance room. :-/ I clear them up from time to time but they come back - I guess I'd rather have a few hidden spiders in the place doing their thing rather than have the place crawling with wood lice.

My scalp has gone all itchy just thinking about it. :-/

They keep the living and dead insects cleaned up, catch flies and the only inconvenience is a bit cobweb clearing once a year when they get dusty and can be seen. They are unseen housekeepers. What they do when they crawl on you in the night is tasting you to see if you'll be worth coming back to when you pop your clogs. :D  Like I said, if they aren't in my way I don't care. I've had to kick two bats out in one place and kill 20 field mice in a week at one time... two of them were taking the mickey playing with each other like i wasn't there! I was a bit sad when my trap killed a dormouse though. The joys of living in the sticks.

  5. I mean you or I personally - I fail to see what we can do about it personally. It isn't worth falling out over, putting each other on ignore lists and spamming with red rep. I see both sides of the argument and could propose about 100 different solutions which imo would work..... which I am sure neither side would accept. The expectations of both parties are unreasonable and their current goals unattainable without bloodshed from either side. It is a mess.... and it is way more complex than many who take one side or the other seem to present it. (imo).
  6. I don't think so - it sounds feasible (like the oxidised layer on Al) but I would have thought we'd be doing it already if it were possible with steel. They use phosphoric acids for rust conversion I think. (maybe tannic acid too - can't remember). Quite - I assume primer for steel (as he said 'metal surface') but he'd have to clarify. He could mean a metallic finish paint, but I suspect primer.
  7. Just a word of perspective also.... it is so polarized out there and has been a cause of war for over 70 years. It (the whole Israel situation) has cause arguments and fall outs between people and nations for many decades. So, in that light - if you can't agree on it here in a civilized chat room on the internet then how on earth are we ever going to come to a real world solution out there - it is a very complicated situation and not worth falling out over - there is nothing any of us can do about it I don't think. We have to sit and watch and hope for a solution and an end to the blood shed and the hatred.
  8. Hindsight is a marvellous thing.
  9. Being fair - answer the kid's question...... what options did they have really? Apart from rubber bullets and water cannons, what do you propose they do when 10 thousand people come marching at them? They knew that Hamas had called for blood in the streets of Israel and for the hearts of Israelis to be ripped out - How are they supposed to respond? I don't like it either - I think they are too heavy handed, but, they get the kind of results that end with minimum loss of Israeli life whilst sending the message that they won't be attacked without extreme retaliation. I still think that bulldozing mecca and the holy of holies is the answer - take that BS away from both sides - when that place is no more it kinda proves both of their books as works of fiction as they promise the area to both. It says their gods can't be defeated. Destroy that BS place and we are on the road to proving that their prophecies are BS. As I said - I'm pulling out of this if I can. I'll let you have the last word if you want it. I think it is Zumba or something like that. ;-) .... no - I looked it up - it is zythum!
  10. Are you saying it isn't true? I would not be surprized. Both sides are totally fucking crazy. I'm out... sorry for butting in. Good day chaps.
  11. You mean suicide, not genocide...... hmmm - could you think of less humane way of doing it? Mines in civilian areas are totally unacceptable. (actually - being pedantic - I CAN think of less humane ways... but that is irrelevant). You can't go mining anywhere these days. Too many atrocities. I won't be surprised if Dim just doesn't bother to reply to your suggestion. lol.
  12. From both side - yes. I am sure there must be a better way of dealing with the Palestinian rioters other than shooting them.
  13. There are many primers for use on steel that have anti corrosion chemicals loaded into them to stop the spread of rust under a coating. Do you mean for steel? 'Metal' covers many materials. Are you with a company trying to formulate a rust inhibitor type primer or do you want this for your own project? As I said - there are many rust prevention primers on the market already. There are even water based ones that contain flash rust inhibitors that stop the initial surface flash of rust across the substrate. Many are high in zinc. Many contain phosphates that scavenge the O2 before the metal can react to it. What is your situation? Formulating for commercial gain or personal use? What is the substrate, steel?
  14. Thank you for the replies - The surge isn't that bad - I do think I will need to replace one of the regulators at some point though - the dial sticks, so when you dial up the pressure it is nothing, nothing, nothing, then suddenly a surge of several hundred psi. The pressure can be dialled down again. I have worked around it for now, but will need to replace it at some point. Thanks again for your replies.
  15. How would you suggest they deal with thousands of people, some with bombs strapped to them, all of them calling for blood and death to Israeli people, marching towards your fence without stopping when told to turn around. Let them through the fence where they can start their murder campaign? Just sit and see if the fence holds up to their wire cutters? Come on! I know it is a horrible state of affairs, but what do you do when 10K angry arabs are marching at you demanding your death and that your heart be ripped out? I do not think they had a choice. Kill or be killed in that situation. Saying this - I wasn't there so I only know what I heard on the Radio this morning and from reading about a bit.
  16. The fact that violence was a forgone conclusion tells you what about Hamas? As far as I am aware a country can put their capitol and embassies wherever they want. They should be able to do this without their neighbours sending mobs of people with violent intent across the border with the mission of ripping out the hearts of your civilians with their bare hands. It says a lot about the holy books of both sides imo - destroy that holy of holies site that both sides claim is theirs according to their backward books - that would prove that both books are BS and people can just live together and move on with their lives in peace and love. All the time they have preachers on both sides telling them they are justified by god to wage war in the area there will never be peace there. Where is the Love!!??
  17. Let me play advocate for a min. - If Jerusalem is part if Israel then it is perfectly reasonable for Israel and the US to put their embassy wherever they choose within the country and they need no blessing from Palestine. Regarding the protest. Although the guards on the Israeli border way out gun the hoards of advancing protestors - going by past demonstrations many of them could have explosives strapped to them, many have wire cutters which they use to get through the fence into Israel where they can start a killing campaign against Israeli civilians. There were reports of Hamas officials calling for these 'protestors' to rip the hearts out of Israelis once they get across the boarder. Credit where it is due - no one has claimed that this was a peaceful protest as far as I can tell. These protestors won't be allowed near the fence and know full well that will be shot if they advance on the border. They know this yet they advance in their thousands anyway knowing they will be shot. This being said - it was a shit stirring move to put the embassy in Jerusalem and they must have know it would cause a lot of trouble, protest and death. This is what the American people chose though when they installed Trump, an obvious war monger, as their leader.
  18. Who cares what the pres does in his or a pornstar's bedroom? Good luck to the old fella - no one cares. What they DO care about I think is the lying.... he tried to cover it up and hide it from the public and probably his family. Lying in office I believe is what BC got impeached for (correct me if I am wrong) not for adultery - which isn't illegal. Yet he claims ANY form of misleading is totally wrong. Being fair he doesn't know he is doing it.

You and I both know he is NOT a six year old child. MENTALLY however he might well 'identify' as being one. This does not mean he believes himself to be a six year old. He might well believe he is a woman (rightly or wrongly - I do not care and it is none of my business and don't care to get into that debate), but I would place money on him not actually believing he is 6 years old (as I said before - the article CLEARLY states that he wants to live as a six year old to recapture some lost chance at being a girl - NOT that he thinks he IS a six years old - which you keep saying he is claiming... and so what if he is? - he could be mentally ill, again - none of our business). So for the last time - you and I KNOW he isn't a six year old girl.... I might get into trouble for saying so, but hey whatever, I really do not care what he identifies as. Why do you? Why does it bug you so much? I would guess it bugs you because you have friends and family that are homophobic (you might not think they are homophobic just because they hate/don't understand/take the piss out of gays and trans types/think gays are disgusting - but they clearly are) - someone has influenced you in your life to make you think that homosexuals are disgusting maybe? Maybe an uncle? A Father figure? A priest or brother or friend? Maybe I am wrong and you came to your beliefs by your self - but you were probably influenced as this is how humans get most of their beliefs.

Today I learned that Gold is more expensive than platinum per gram by quite a bit. I always thought it was the other way around. Volume wise platinum is dearer - it is just that the density is higher so the same sized ring is dearer. I feel I should have known this from school or something as it seems it should be basic chemistry general knowledge... hold on a mo.... ... I went and looked up the densities... 19.32 g/cm^3 for gold against 21.45 g/cm^3 for platinum.... that doesn't seem like a big difference at all!? The price per gram for Pt is £21.45 and the gold price per gram is £31.47. This still doesn't add up or explain the difference in ring prices..... Ah! maybe it is because gold is rarely pure and comes in 9 / 18 / 24 carat etc.. I can only assume most Pt rings are pure and solid to account for the price compared to impure gold rings of lower carat. I think they mix the gold otherwise it is too soft. But - in short gold is more expensive than platinum (according to todays charts).
  22. I am glad my equipment has a safety pressure valve on it.... :-/ I have 2 Nitrogen cylinders feeding a TGA machine and other cylinders feeding other machines with Oxygen. The O2 line has always been fine. The pressure regulator on it is quite expensive. The pressure regulators on the N2 cylinders seem to allow high pressured gas surges through the line. I have set the regulator to about 40 psi but regularly get surges up to several hundred psi. This doesn't happen very often and at first I put it down to a dodgy pressure regulator. One is old. The other regulator is brand new. Even the brand new one now though seems to give a surge sometimes, especially when I first turn on the gas... the pressure surges high then drops back to what I had it dialled into. With the older pressure gauge... albeit rarely, I still get the odd surge of high pressure from time to time (once or twice a week) where it just blows through the blow out valve for a few seconds before returning to the set psi. This happens halfway through the day sometimes without even touching the regulator. Are these surges normal? I assumed a faulty pressure regulator but I still get surges from time to time when opening the bottle with the brand new regulator. The older regulator IS a little sticky, but the brand new one surely shouldn't allow 2-300psi pressure surges when it is set to 30psi max. Are my old sticky regulator AND my brand new one both faulty? I guess it isn't THAT much of a problem because there is an over pressure release safety valve before the line enters the kit, but I still do not like it going over the pressure I have set on the dial. Thanks.

You said he believed that he was 6 years old. He knows how old is - he knows he is not 6. ... he doesn't think he is six years old. Is this willfull misleading to promote your hatred of Transgender people or just an error in understanding the article? Why do you care about what some 52 year old bloke does to his own body or how he lives anyway? Why are you so interested in it, are you looking to take the change yourself?
