Need some evidences from other disciplines about >3D space
DrP replied to blue89's topic in Engineering
That statement is illogical - just because you found no reference to it doesn't mean it does not exist. The more logical explanation would be that you failed to find the evidence whilst searching. -

To avoid further confusion I will stay out of it - sorry - I don't have anything to add to the science of the thread - I was just reading it out of interest and got sucked into this circle of misunderstanding. I don't really understand any of your last post and it is clear that you didn't understand mine. Have a nice day! -

QUOTE: "OK - if they want me to leave the forum..." How on earth did you come to that conclusion? Misunderstanding again due to a language problem for sure. By saying you are elite it implies that you are better. That is what it means. -

If you are still taking moderation comments and questions as insults then it points to a language problem which you claim not to have. When the mods ask questions like that it is to get you to think about something - if you take offence at it then you have misunderstood what was said (again). -
It isn't too different to what we have anyway. There's just the extended SDS and registration of material.

It definitely warrants further testing and of course if it is a carcinogen then we need to know about it, It needs proper testing though as it is currently thought of as fairly harmless.

TiO2 classification as 1B Carcinogen proposal by French for REACH
DrP posted a topic in Science News
The French Dossier on TiO2 was made publically available on 31st May 2016. They are trying to make it a class 1 B Carcinogen by inhalation based on some test they did on rats in 1985 by Lee et al. The test was critiqued by many as rats aren't a great indicator in carcinogen tests for humans and the rats were overloaded with huge amounts of the powder. Here is some background as to their proposal. It seems there still needs to be testing done on the nano form, but no-one, outside of the Lee et al French experiments in 1985 has shown any harm caused by normal industrial use of TiO2 powder. A larger debacle is that if they get their proposal through, then, paint formulations will need to list TiO2 as a carcinogen under REACH on their labels..... even though it would only be relevant in its powdered form and would be perfectly safe bound up in a formulation or in a dried paint coating. www.chemicalwatch.com/43791/france-proposes-carcinogen-1b-classification-for-titanium-dioxide ... PS - as a further aside both aromatic and aliphatic Isocyanates are to have their use restricted to professional coating applicators. i.e. they will not be legal for basic decorative paints where the general public can use them. Only trained professionals will be able to use them. The long term drive will be to eventually replace them completely with some other tech. This move is recommended due to high cases of occupational asthma and respiratory sensitisation. -
Re - TiO2, the French are pushing for a 1B carcinogen classification by inhalation. If this were the case then would we not have seen many more cancer deaths in the paint manufacturing industry? If we label every substance as hazardous then we run the risk of warnings becoming so common that people will start to ignore them or dis believe them, which, in the long run is much more dangerous as people won't take the warnings seriously when it is really necessary. Quote from BCF Digest September 2016:- 'The French (ANSES) dossier on TiO2 was made publically available on 31st May 2016. ECHA immediately announced a 45 day consultation period on this proposal to reclassify TiO2 as a class 1B carcinogen by inhalation. As expected the arguments by France were based upon the IARC classification from their monograph 93-7 published in 2009, and on the studies carried out in 1985 by Lee et al., where rats were subject to a severely overloaded dose of TiO2. There was no new evidence presented by the French authorities with regard to this proposal and all of the evidence in support of the French position falls outside the guidance for valid studies as set by ECHA, and also the limits that have been set by the OECD. In addition, it has been proven that studies of this nature on rats in relation to carcinogenicity and inhalation do not correspond to the potential for this to cause cancer in humans.'

Quote: "Slept in class, didn't do the work, bombed in tests'.... None of these things are a measure of intelligence by themselves - it is well know that some 'daydreamers' and underachievers that were thought of in the past to be slow are actually more intelligent that the sheeple that have to work hard for their grades. I would have thought you might have known this - it seems to me that you do know this deep down and are looking for confirmation and peer support for this (otherwise, why would you keep going on about it?). Forget what you have been told by your teachers or your father or whoever it was that told you that you were stupid and will never amount to anything and just get on with life knowing that you are clearly a bright lad. In response to the thread - I was religious for many many years of my life. I am not saying I am intelligent, but I used to be top of tests at school for science and subjects I had an interest in (and like you, subjects I found boring I failed to perform at). I also have a PhD - I look back at my faith and I can forgive myself for believing the lies. It is a very complex psychological build up that causes someone to ignore reality and evidence and fact to accept the lies told by religious people (of course to them they are not lies - they believe it). I guess it is a desire to fit in, a desire to be a good person, fear of punishment from an all powerful super being.... In my case I remember prayer sessions as a 3 year old where we were told to picture Jesus putting our name into the book of life... looking back it was a bit like hypnotism/conditioning as you sit there in a meditative prayer state with an old lady in a soothing voice telling you what to picture and what to believe - the more I think about it the more like hypnotism it seems. I can forgive anyone for falling for that - especially as a 3 year old! How is a 3 year old supposed to sort out reality from lies when they are being taught such a thing as fact?

I'd say that you should see a doctor - in this modern day and age most medical help is free so that you don't have to worry if you don't have much money - unless you live in a 3rd world country or somewhere where they don't care about their citizens. When I was a student I used to get depressed from time to time. The uni I went to was 16 miles from the coast and an amusement park I used to go to when I was a child. A few times I drove to the park and went round and round on the big rollercoaster that was there.... it is hard to be depressed when on a roller coaster! I hope you get through it. gl.

before structuring that sentence properly I would need to know a) - what you mean by mathematical interference. b) how can it cure cancer. c) what relevance it has to 3D space. It is not my exact field of science but anyone correcting the English would probably need to know what I have asked.
-
Even the title doesn't read well in English - it looks like someone who doesn't speak English very well has written it. It doesn't connect as a sentence at all. Get an English person (a scientist) to proof read it for you. In fact - just post it here so we can do it for you... I will warn you though - if you can not take any criticism then do not post it - people here will be honest and you might mistake that honesty for rudeness. Good luck.

well - I'd just like to carry on being me for while longer really. I don't really care how (as long as it doesn't involve the suffering or sacrifice of others). QUOTE: "the cure for death is living" Not sure that really makes sense to me. Living is the state we are trying to prolong here, it is the result not the cure. If were as simple as just choosing to carry on then I am sure a lot of people that are now dead would still be alive.
-
There is no evidence for anything at all after death. It is a nice romantic thought - but not one based on actual reality, just hope and the lies of priests. Do I want to go to heaven? Of course - who doesn't? Just saying that no-one has ever had any contact with the dead, whatever some cooks say. I'd take the cure for death if it was invented - what happens when I am ready to die? Well, I'm sure it could be arranged pretty simply without too much complication.

dealing with people living in a different world?
DrP replied to Lyudmilascience's topic in The Lounge
No one is happy all of the time. ;-) We are are complex creatures and experience lots of thoughts and emotions, they are part of life as a human being. Be yourself. When I said to choose to be happy it was just meant as encouragement, don't read too much into it (it's not always possible anyway). I have a friend that says that intelligent people can over think things and get depressed. I guess it is just life. You have to make your own decisions. You seem like a very honest, brave and intelligent person to me. This thread is very personal and you are very open about your feelings in this very public place. I can be a bit self conscious sometimes but try to be open and honest. Sometimes it can be good to talk about feelings and emotions and things. On the whole I have had a lot of joy from life and really love it. -

It is not uncommon - my father is a racist, misogynistic, bigot who hates everyone who isn't a drinking buddy, a fellow racist or of his or a member of his family. I swore early in my life that I would NEVER treat a woman the way he treats my mother. I have challenged him many times over things and he just thinks I am a trouble maker who likes to cause arguments, he NEVER looks inward as a result of being criticised, he always blames the person who is doing the criticising for just not minding their own business or for stirring up trouble. He is selfish and spends any and all of his money on alcohol even if his family has to go without.... I keep the peace with him because my Nan begged me to as he takes his anger out on my mother if I argue with him. I love my mother and keep the peace with him so I can go and see her... I still sorta love him unconditionally as a father, but I do not like him - he a complete arsehole. So - I feel for you - If you look at from another angle then it could be so, so, so much worse, so count your blessings and choose to be happy friend. Good luck. x -
A coin toss is 50/50.... but we never know all of the inputs - if we knew how high the coin was being tossed from, how hard it was flipped, the hardness of the surface it strikes on landing and the angle it lands at etc. we would be able to predict heads or tails. We never know all of the inputs, which is why we can't predict it. Maths is not failing here - if we knew the input then we could calculate the answer exactly and every time..

QUOTE: "Animals are better than humans in almost every way".... How? QUOTE "animals never do bad things to each other".. What rot. You know nothing about animals then, NOTHING at all - they can be VERY cruel to each other indeed.... when a lion takes over a new pride he drives off the old lion or kills it - then he kills ALL of the cubs, leaving the mother distraught, then rapes all of the females... yea, animals are better, sure. pfft! what total nonsense.

"the secret to a happy life is contentment"... according to Paul I think. If this quote is true, then does this mean happiness/contentment a choice?
-
yea - well you get nuts everywhere... They ARE real - in the way that they are real people doing real things, but all of their 'tricks' are just that - tricks. I've seen those vids where they claim that all magicians are possessed and use real magic. It's just part of their god delusion.

How much more healthy is brown pasta compared to white pasta?
DrP replied to james_pain's topic in The Lounge
Surely it isn't THAT bad small doses? I used to know a woman who insisted it gave you cancer and wouldn't touch it.... unless it was part of her homeopathy treatment - then it was going to be alright apparently. She would also insist that it was worse white because it had been processed, therefore much much worse.... 'cause, you know - it's been processed so that = evil cancer causing scientists have had their way with it. *rollseyes* -
Observing one or two people from my own family who seemed to love animals more than humans I think I can say that their reasons for doing so were stated as "Animals have pure soles - they are perfect and can do no wrong"... Seeminly meaning that they are forgiven for their selfishness, murder, viciousness and greed as they know no better and act on instinct or do not have the cognitive ability to make proper decisions about good and evil. I think this comes from a belief that humans are not animals and have free will. Even so, I would challenge them that they need to love their fellow humans more (if they were to show selfless love). As much as I loved these people, and I found their love for animals admirable (A love a kind of share to an extent).... I found that the bitterness towards humans and the unconditional showering of love onto their pets whilst ignoring or neglecting humans close to them made me cringe and feel a bit sick. PS - as for animals being helpless - this is relative - as Phi suggested - drop a strong fit human into the middle of the Atlantic and see who is helpless then.
