  1. http://www.ahappydea...oduct_31869.htmThe Temple Mount of Jerusalem, a holy site for the three great monotheistic religions, is the largest man made platform of the ancient world. The trapezium shaped platform measures 488 m along the west, 470 m along the east, 315 m along the north and 280 m along the south, giving a total area of approximately 150,000 m2 (37 acres). This means over 5 times larger than the Acropolis of Athens and nearly 3 times the base of the great pyramid of Giza. What is perhaps less known is that the entire temple mount rests upong gigantic megalithic foundations. Some of the stones employed in its construction weight an impressive 100 to 150 tons. The largest megalith, visible in a tunnel under the present day Western Wall, has an estimated weight of over 570 tons and is 46 feet long. Both the style of construction and the size of the massive stones employed in the construction of Very few archaeologists question the attribution of the giant stones and megalithic foundations in Jerusalem's temple mount to king Herod, builder of the second Jewish Temple in the 1st Century CE. This is mostly based on similarity with other known Herodian buildings and the testimony of ancient authors, especially Flavius Josephus (Antiquities of the Jews). There is however the possibility that Herod (as the fabled king Solomon before him), only rebuilt upon the foundations of a much earlier structure.
