  1. Yes you were right. This was the calculation that I eventually used: 0.4g X 1 mol/137g X 2 mol/1mol X 119g/mol X 1mL/1.64 In short I made the intermediate acid chloride first then made N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide afterwards. I almost forgot to follow up to this post until I began to assemble my lab report this morning. Just wanted to say thanks! Have a good day
  2. Hi all. I am not sure how I would derive this measurement for my lab. My ochem lab is asking for 'a twofold excess of thionyl chloride.' Not sure what this means. Physical constants I have for thionyl chloride are its MW= 119 g/mol and d= 1.64 g/mL. The other reagent I will put into an RBFalong with the thionyl chloride is 0.4g of m-toluic acid. Do I incorporate 0.4g into my calculation for the excess thionyl chloride? Thanks!
  3. darn thermodynamics on a Friday night?! Evil midterms!

  4. can't believe I'm saying this but can't wait for the semester to begin!

  5. When the fridge is empty it's time to buy groceries!
  6. yawwwnn going to sleep early sounds good tonight

  7. I have 3 Organic Chemistry- Lecture Organic Chemistry- Discussion 1 Organic Chemistry- Lab 5 Calculus I w/applications and one other class I will need for full-time status. I'm minoring in Anthropology so I'm thinking perhaps "Cultural Anthropology" for my other 3 credit hour class. I'm wowed by how much time Ochem and Calculus will consume my schedule already! My GPA is very good at this point so I'm a bit cautious about loading up on courses right now. You already know your material?! Haha that's awesome! Have a good upcoming semester
  8. Woah. 20 credits?!!! Let us know how you do! I've done a max of 17 and that was enough for me. I didn't have a life but rather had one with classes>eat lunch>classes>breathe>classes>lab>study>sleep and the cycle continued for 15 weeks. In my case it was 3 sciences with 3 labs and one PUH (Public Health) class that I was engaged with for the term. The previous terms was a similar story but with 16 cr. hrs that nonetheless kept this girls nose in the books! I'll be starting my BS w/minor also next month at university. Pretty excited in a bookwormy kind of way @Genecks. Thanks for sharing advice regarding biochem and chemistry majors. I will definitely keep the pointers regarding groups in mind.
  9. Done with finals. Semester is over :) :) :)

  10. time to get back to work :(

  11. lol that's cute. Thanks for sharing that one
  12. Congrats on returning to school. I started out on a rough patch also. I returned to school after a lengthy absence with a 2.1 GPA and have significantly brought it back up since then! If your science and mathematics skills have been neglected for years you will be glad that you refreshed before tackling the classes head on! I restarted college with College Algebra at first and then began taking the classes I need toward my associates degree. I'm now going to start working on my bachelors in January at Uni. Try Khanacademy for math and science, Patrick JMT on youtube for mathematics, ratemyprofessor dot com to find reviews of professors and instructors from students, and look on Amazon for study guides for the areas you will need a refresher in. Amazon has customer reviews and testimonials that are very helpful for the books that are on sale on Amazon. I wish you the best!
  13. Pretty nifty vid regarding GIMP

  14. November already?! egads!
