as evidenced earlier in the thread, it's instantly annoying. so, they're going to have people out there checking to see that ALL of the loiterers are teens? not all teens are loiterers, so why subject the ones that aren't to the noise? indeed. and a loud annoying noise that all can here would be more effective.

Not all teens in the area are loitering. Not all loiterers are teens and not all teens are loiterers. Why not have the noise so all can hear? It requires no more equipment than the mosquito and it gets all loiterers.

wouldn't a better solution be to play a loud, high-pitched noise that everyone can hear? that would target all loiterers, right? and it isn't descriminatory.

airsoft is just annoying, it doesn't harm the people. why not have an irritating noise that all people can hear? it would get rid of the loitering problem without the discrimination.

in the inner city, the majority of your shoplifters will be african american. why is it wrong to do something annoying(airsoft) to them, but it is okay to do something to annoying(the mosquito) to teens?

how is it a strawman? why not just call the police in both? using the mosquito doesn't target the loiterers; it targets young people. just calling police for both would be far better as that actually targets loiterers. there are ways of specifically targeting loiterers instead of targeting young people.

i have a store in and i have a problem with black people stealing. can i shoot every black person around with an airsoft gun? not all loiterers are kids and not all kids loiter.

i think it is you who are being obtuse. it does not target loiterers; it targets young people. it isn't a sound that only loiterers can hear. you not giving a damn about discriminiation does not make me "the new revprez."

not all people in the area are loitering it's not targeting criminals. it is targeting young people. that is a strawman. your scenario has criminals being targeted while the actual one doesn't. it just has young people targeted. a more apt analogy would be "am I discriminating against blacks when i hire an off-duty policeman to patrol the mall and pay special attention to african americans at christmas time?"

nope, not a strawman. in his case he didn't want teens loitering because they drove away business. in this one, gays aren't wanted shopping because they drive away business.

that was my point. they aren't loitering. therefore you are wrong. it is prejudice no matter how you slice it. *cough*STEREOTYPE*cough* for instance, around here, at least half of the people that loiter are over the age of 25....it's probably more. i haven't done a formal survey, though.
