i was trying to make a trig chart for the complex plane and accindently found 0>1. at pi/4, the hypotenuse is 0, but the real leg is 1. how is that? imaginary trig must be fun. edit: at [math]\theta=\frac{\pi}{4}[/math], i got: sin=undefined cos=undefined tan=i csc=0 sec=0 cot=-i it is in the first quadrant and cot is negative...something is wonky

first i have heard of that crap...erm, speculation it depends what you are judging the velocity relative to. and no, it isn't impossible. a good ion engine could get to a significant fraction of the speed of light (especially if i were actually two ion engines: one matter, the other antimatter that are at angles relative to each other such that the ions and antiions hit each other)...it just takes time.

couple of things: what gives you the idea that things going faster than light move backwards through time? at c, time is undefined, not zero. at ftl, time is imaginary, not negative accelerating breaks the symmetry, so we know the spaceship is moving, not the earth, so even if time went backwards at ftl, you wouldn't see the earth go back in time.
