  1. so, it was a tie and it has been a while. anyone want to try it again?
  2. i have a thread called "trig" that hassa every formula you will need for that portion of your class.
  3. i like how all of the aliens(except for two in startrek, iirc) breath the same air we do.
  4. getting into? we were done in the first semester and have already taken our second semester finals. we have been out of school for a while now.

    size

what is the division between quantum rules and classical rules? atoms, molecules, ect.? is there a blurry area where it is kinda both or is it a division at x size?
  6. i thought water waves were transverse, but i couldn't remember.
  7. not really. it is the medium for gravity waves.

    GR equations

i am having a difficult time locating the GR equations for gravity with x amount of mass energy. could someone post them please?
  9. what do you mean? it is easy to understand. just take it at face value: particles aren't just particles, but also waves.
  10. yes, they do.
  11. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light
  12. they don't need one. radio(light) is an EM(electromagnetic) wave. it is an alternating electric and magnetic field acting perpendicular to the direction of the wave.
  13. can we get a turtorial on the commutative diagrams?
  14. new look is great
  15. yes, that would be a lot better(if done right).

    Exams

i have seen the term "GCSEs" used here, but i don't know what it means. is it a british thing or something?
  17. no, a curve is an infinite amount of zero dimensional points. oddly enough, atoms are supposed to be made of zero dimensional points. quarks(particles that make up protons and neutrons) and electrons are point particles and they make up the atoms. if you take a proton away, you get a different element. if you take a neutron, you get an isotope of the element which you started with. take away an electron and you get an ion.
  18. has anyone come up with a theory on how tachyons would be created if they were to exist? could tachyons be part of the dark matter? if they exist, their imaginary mass energy may prived predictable effects in the gravity around galaxies. i don't know any of the GR equations, so i wouldn't be able to see what happens when you put an imaginary term in for mass\energy.
  19. i would think it would be zero. if we take the limit of 1\x as x approaches infinity, won't it get closer and closer to zero as the number gets higher and higher? isn't y=1\x tanget to 0 at infinity? maybe not, i'm not to terribly good at maths beyond algebra 2.
  20. i say it is man
  21. anyone who thinks that the big bang was the begining of the universe doesn't understand the theory.
  22. i think the only wave in light is that it is an EM wave. i THINK it doesn't have a probability wave because a photon's momentum is different enough that the HUP doesn't apply to photons in the sense of p vs x.

    Tensors

matt, since you seem to know what they are and you are a resident expert, could you please tell us what they are and how they are used? as mezarashi said, some calculations would be nice as well(that is if [math]\LaTeX[/math] is working).

    Tensors

What are tensors? In what branches of mathematics are they used? The only thing I know about them is that they are used in GR.
