I, like many people here, believe working conditions should be better, and incomes higher. There are many people who essentially live in poverty, and struggle to afford rent in crowded apartments. Things need to change, so that anyone willing to put work and put serious effort into their work, should be able to live a decent life in decent housing, and be able to afford a few basic extra luxuries, such as a vacation once a year, and to eat out a few times every week. Now I realise there will always be people less motivated, who do not want to work as much, or are more discriminating about where or how they are willing to work. These people should still be able to live a decent life, but should have to deal with more modest standard of living. I just do not think people should have to work so hard, under poor working conditions, for so little. We would all like to improve the standard of living, and many of us at least would like to end poverty. But what does this have to do with "equality"? Most of the progressives are trying to promote "economic equality". But this is going far beyond simply ending poverty. Why do we need "equality" to end poverty and improve the standard of living for the poor? I think capitalism can provide a decent (though modest) standard of living for everyone, and a good standard of living for most. But only under some conditions. If there are too many poor people, it is going to drive down wages, worsen working conditions, and cause unemployment. This is the "Army of the Unemployed" described by Marx. High birth rates, or high levels of immigration, are simply incompatible with providing decent standards of living under capitalism. There are other systems, besides pure capitalism. But these other systems have potential problems, and even dangers. I think it might be preferable if we could essentially keep the structure we already have. I am also not sure that egalitarianism is compatible with ethnic diversity. I hope that everyone in the world can someday live without poverty, and that people can generally have a good standard of living. (we also need to take serious steps now to prevent overpopulation in the future, overpopulation will be incredible strain on the system of capitalism, because there will not be enough jobs, or housing near the jobs, for everyone)

I thought we have been over this already, again and again. Humans and Chimpanzees share 98.8 percent of the same DNA. Obviously that 1.2% makes a big difference. Oh, please! You expect us to believe they cannot afford condoms? How much does a condom cost? In any event, people can get all the condoms they want if they know where to look, there are people handing them out all the time. Perhaps in Africa where most of the people are impoverished and live on less than 3 dollars a day. But not in the United States. By the way, I strongly advocate for our Western governments to drop free condoms and birth control pills by helicopter into the poor neighborhoods and Africa. And not only should abortion clinics be free, the women should actually get paid a little token extra for their trouble!

Sodium methoxide is really dangerous. It is a highly corrosive liquid, more basic than sodium hydroxide. It has the unique charactaristic that if a few drops get splashed onto skin it will cause chemical burns but will deactivate pain receptors so that one may not realise that they are being burned. I have poured concentrated HNO3 before, and often I feel little points of burning on my skin from the little micro-droplets that splash up into the air, even when pouring very carefully and there is no obvious splashing. Sodium methoxide is also very flammable, and if one tries to extinguish the fire with water, it will just generate much heat as the water violently reacts with the substance, causing methanol to boil out and causing a big fire cloud to form.

Actually, even blue-green light has enough energy to initiate bromine radical reactions. You might consider working in a darkened room with red light. Or use incandescent light (normal light bulb) rather than fluorescent lighting. It is a radical cascade mechanism, so another strategy is to reduce the reaction time. If the reaction can be limited to less than 5 minutes, there should be less of a problem. I do not think temperature is going to make much difference. A single photon of light can catalyse the reaction of about 40 molecules in this type of cascade. Also remember that bromine reacts at room temperature with ketones, especially if the pH is lower, through intermediate enol tautomer. There are other more sustainable organic materials that could be used, besides wood. Switchgrass, for example, which can be easily grown in dry cold places where other agricultural crops cannot thrive. Different racial/ethnic groups have different fertility rates, and often these differences can be very significant. Some groups of people have many more babies than other groups of people, and this often contributes to ethnic resentment. I think it is best to err on the side of caution, and avoid any mass migrations of immigrants directly accross the world. Race is an important human trait, and should not be ignored just because the lines are not always clearly defined. That video failed to substantiate its claim that the "most recent common ancestor" was as recent as it claimed. Yes, I suppose their could be very slow genetic exchange that could potentially cause genes from one region of the world to drift to distant parts. But I think the effect of this is much less than the author believes, due to various other more complicated factors (such as avoidance of cross ethnic marriage, and negetive natural selection). These different forms have stricking differences between them, but can generally be grouped into two main cytotypes, each of which is adapted to a particular type of climate. If you want to ignore race, and think the human racial diversity in the world has little importance, then do not be surprised when people like me do not care about declining biodiversity or endangered species. Claiming that all the Scandinavians are descended from Cleopatra is completely ridiculous. There has not been nearly that much gene flow throughout the world in the last few thousand years! If there was, the different races would look much more similar to eachother than they actually do. Racial realities and scientific research dealing with race apparently has some social and political implications. I would no more trust present-day research (done in the politically/academically "progressive" countries of the USA, UK, or Sweden) that claims to have found that "race does not exist" than I would trust the racial anthropological studies done under the Nazis! Actually this has to do with relatively recent migration in human history. The Spanish conquest of Mexico, contribution of Chinese genes into the elite educated class in Malaysia, the Aryan migration to India only several thousand years ago. Not sure about Thailand, however. But generally the ethnic peoples that have lived near the equator for many tens of thousands of years have evolved to have more melanin in their skin.

So the Nazis set a limit so that the Jews could not be overrepresented by more than a factor of 1.5. In other words, if Germany only had 1000 people, 900 of those people germans and 100 of them jews, and if there were only 100 spaces in german universities, then no more than 15 jews would be admitted to the universities. This seems fair to me. Obviously jews were vastly overrepresented, and corrective action needed to be taken. Despite being only 2 to 3% of the population in the USA, Jews constititute about 24% of Ivy League undergraduates. Between a quarter to a third of Harvard students identify themselves as Jewish. So it would seem that non-jews are significantly underrepresented. Without solving the problem about China, more envirormental regualtions in the USA will just drive more and more manufacturing to China. Indeed, many of the laws passed in the USA that were meant to help the envirorment and reduce pollution have done just the opposite, by driving production to China where industry is allowed to pollute as much as they want and not worry about the consequences. Electric production in China is also much more polluting than that in the USA because Chinese coal power plants are significantly less efficient, do not have filters to reduce particulate emissions, and use cheaper butimous sulfur coal that causes acid rain. This matters because Chinese factories are much more wasteful and energy-intensive than those in the USA. The fact that the Chinese government heavily subsidizes the cost of electric power does not help the incentive for conservation. The best way for the USA to reduce pollution is to put a pollution tax on all Chinese imports, unless the products have been certified to have come from a factory that meets minimum environmental standards. Making it expensive for American companies to meet environmental regulations while allowing Americans free access to Chinese products gives an unfair advantage to corporations that own factories in China. Factories in the EU or USA that want to try to be more eco-friendly have trouble competing with China.

Obviously you have never lived in a cold dry climate. Let me explain this. Cold air holds much less humidity than warm air. When the cold air becomes heated, it suddenly can take up much more moisture. If you live in a climate with less humidity, things can become very uncomfortable inside a building that has a heating system, but no humidifier. Ones skin becomes very dry, and it feels uncomfortable, almost painful. I have been in a situation where I almost just wanted to stay outside in the cold, because it was so uncomfortable inside. I have travelled to arid deserts and never had nearly so much of a problem with this. The lowest humidity in the world, for example, is found in Antarctica. If one somehow took that cold dry air and warmed it, it would have a drying action more potent than the hot dry air in most deserts. This same effect is used in freeze drying foods. The food is warmed and then cold dry air is passed over it.

Here's the politically incorrect answer: Some races of humans (controversially considered sub-species by some biologists) are subject to the phenomena of over-population, while others are not. Whether the reasons are more sociological or genetic is debatable. Let us take a little look at the USA... Meanwhile, the european white population is actually declining. (this has not prevented the government from counting other non-european ethnicities as "white" so as not to sound any alarms) Could humans potentially make a conscious decission to control the population growth? Yes. But there do not appear to be any democratic governments willing to make the difficult decissions, at least not now. But the longer we wait, the more difficult the necessary corrective action will become in the future.
