He was 75 for God's sake. No need to poison him; just jump out from behind a bush and scream BOO! If Israel was going to kill Arafat they would have done it long ago. No senior citizens were hurt during the making of this post.

Your probably right. It's just that no pen and paper 30-60 min test can accurately quantify something as complex as intelligence. I don't think the 15 pt difference between Mississippi's average IQ and the normal means that Mississippi is full of retarded people (inbreeding jokes aside). I think the difference is mostly due to poor education and not an actual genetic deficiency. But of course it still means they are not as mentally adapt in some respects, regardless of the cause.

I can tell you what I don't understand: 1) virtual shift register --Is that like a switch? 2) "we use them as psuedo random white and pink noise generators in digi-synths." --I dont understand a word of that 3) rolling code--Is that like a loop?
-
True. It mostly has to due with education. Mississippi is also one of the poorest if not the poorest state.
-
That's a good point. Only half the population votes and who knows how old those statistics are. They may have got them from the school tests. Much of the validity of this correlation lies on the how’s and when’s of those IQ scores. But what does this really tell us anyway? We already knew the East Coast and West Coast states were more educated than the south. A good portion of the people in those southern states that scored poorly on those IQ tests were probably very poor people who didn't even vote or voted Democratic. But I bet a sizable portion of the low scores came from small extremely religious rural areas, which voted Republican.

Well, If you believe that the information in that chart is really an accurate representation of the IQ's of each state then a correlation is hard to deny. The questions are whether that chart is accurate and what is the significance if it is. Oh and now I want to move to Connecticut. Scratch that; I'll move to Mississippi and be a super-genius.

So basically if thats not clear just imagine a number like pi that starts with 3.14 and goes on and on without a detectable pattern: 3.14.................. The computer uses equations to produce numbers like pi that go on and on without a pattern and then chooses one of the numbers. It needs a start number to plug into the equation, which it gets from the internal clock of the computer. Did I get that right YT? Was that close at all?

I agree with you as well. In a combat situation, when you are facing a foe, it’s the survival of the fittest--anything goes. Honor comes in when you are making a decision on whether to run or risk your life for your fellow solider, what to do with prisoners, or whether to rape and pillage a small village--that kind of thing. I think alot of people on this thread are talking about more of a one on one fight with one of your friends or some random guy in a bar/pub. If you and one of your friends get drunk and fight over a girl then anything doesn't go. You don't gouge out your friend's eye because tempers ran a little high. But you are not talking about that kind of situation.

Depends on the situation. Perhaps we would have progressed to a level of society that controlled its population and properly managed its resources and maybe the other species could do the same. I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility; certainly there is not a natural law that really prohibits this.

Honor is a concept derived from the warrior-code of warlike societies. Soldiers who have a great sense of honor are more effective. They are likely to fight harder and less likely to run when things get tough. Honor is a kind of moral code for those that make a career out of war. Young men who observe these men of honor respect them and desire to be more like them, which makes recruiting much easier. Not only is honor useful for the leaders that wage war it is also useful for the soldiers who feel that their lives or the sacrifice of their lives has value and meaning. The concept of honor is replaced by ethics, morals, or self-respect, as others have pointed out, in a more peaceful environment.

I added a little too much Ammonia to a distillation experiment and one of the rubber distillation tubes came undone and flooded the room with intense ammonia vapors. We had to clear the room and one girl passed out in the hallway.

Any more information on the kind of projects we are talking about?

It would be more work to not have a government and thus anarchy than it would be to have a government because it is man's natural disposition to organize himself and his community. Once a villain came by and rapped and pillaged an area a militia would form prevent if from happening again. There are examples of semi-anarchys in history. How about the mountain men in America?

I think Mr. Mallory created a mechanical plesiosaur to scare off the landowners nearby so he could buy their land cheaply and sell it to the big land developers. Unfortunately a group of meddling kids and their dog arrived in a mystery van and messed up his plan. I have no proof of this because they couldn't get Scooby to go into Mr. Mallory’s haunted house because they ran out of Scooby snacks.

Of course, I wasn't really talking about this kind of debate.

So the prodigal son returns and gets bitch slapped?

What happened to free will?

I doubt that. I think the primate form of our evolutionary "replacement" is probably a primate (or a dolphin). We havn't created any real form of artificial intelligence with computers yet primates and dolphins already display an amazing amount of intelligence. We have no idea how to create a thinking machine yet we have the perfect model of an orgainic intelligence with the human brain. It is my guess that we will know how to genetically alter a chimpanzee into a sentient being long before we discover how to do it with a machine.

What's strange is that when researches test ESP abilities with computer random number generators they almost always show a slight ability to predict numbers.

The Scopes trial is interesting but Darwin's model is quite outdated.
