"Swansot".There are implications stemming from the idea that there is no preferred frame of reference. Question.Does this mean that mass can move at the speed of light if the space it occupies is moving. For example if 2 areas of space are expanding away from each other?
-
Yes sorry that's the point I was trying to make ,mass cannot travel at the speed of light, only energy can be transmitted at the speed of light.
-
travelling at the speed of light, means that all the atoms.electrons and protons would be in suspended animation at absolute zero relative to each other, they cannot go faster than the speed of light, which they would already be doing in 1 direction, the direction of travel. suspended animation produces zero passage of time.

Why does light travel at the speed of light?
derek w replied to petermartin's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
I am no sure I understand the problem, but if the vacuum of space is expanding between the galaxies or galaxy clusters and shrinking into black holes, then anything that travels as a wave e.g. light must be effected by the changing medium through which it propagates?Light is either red shift or blue shift depending on whether the space is expanding away from us or shrinking away from us. -
ok.If the big bang happened in reverse and the whole universe was to collapse back to a single point would that not be negative entropy?
-
2e is in wrong place should be fg=(pg(1+i)-2e)^n
-
Io the moon of Jupiter gains internal heat due to the gravitational pull of Jupiter,is this entropy in reverse?

The rate at which the grass grows is a compound interest problem. fg=pg(1 + i)^n where:- fg= future grass pg = present grass i = fixed interest rate/n n = no. of days If e = the amount of grass a cow eats in 1 day and dog + goat is = to cow then the grass is eaten at a rate of 2e by the cow dog goat combination therefore fg=pg(1 + i - 2e)^n

Ok.I try to explain what I am thinking in a different way. If our reality/universe is 3 dimensional plus the 4th dimension of time. The dimensions being described by (x,y,z,t) co-ordinates. To have matter and anti-matter popping in and out of our reality, would require multi-universes,(x,y,z,t)*n,where n = number of universes. If we from our point of view, think of our universe as universe number zero.Matter popping in and out of our universe from neighbouring universes >0.while anti-matter pops in and out of neighbouring universes <0. Is it possible to have multi 3 dimensional universes,I don't know, but I do know that a computer programme can be written that simulates,by creating n number of 3 dimensional arrays. Can I simulate the physical properties of a photon with a computer programme,I think yes. I am giving 2 references of interest from wikipedia:- John conways "game of life" which leads to "cellular automaton".

Neither do I understand what "held out of existence in opposite directions" means. But transverse waves occur when a disturbance creates oscillations perpendicular to the propagation(the direction of energy transfer). The peaks(matter) and troughs(anti-matter) must be at 180 degrees to each other. Quote from wikipedia:- In physics,a virtual particle is a particle that exists for a limited time and space. The energy and momentum of a virtual particle are uncertain according to the uncertainty principle. It is sometimes said that all photons are virtual particles. Furthermore,in a vacuum,a photon experiences no passage of (proper) time between emission and absorption. This statement illustrates the difficulty of trying to distinguish between "real" and "virtual" particles, because in mathematical terms, they are the same objects and it is only our definition of "reality" that is weak here. End quotes. A definition of "reality"?

If matter and anti-matter were held out of existence in opposite directions by the weak force. And all the matter outside of existence on one side was held together by the strong force. And all the anti-matter outside of existence on opposite side was being held together by the strong force. Then a photon could be an oscillation of matter and anti-matter popping in and out of existence in turn against the weak force. As matter pops into existence anti-matter pops out,and visa versa .Planks constant h being the energy of one cycle and the energy of a photon being h*f. If 2 photons with a high enough energy collide, they overcome the strong force and an electron/positron pair pop into existence and remain there. Both the electron and positron would still be oscillating against the weak force, this would cause oscillations in the matter and anti-matter outside of existence, creating a field around the electron and positron,a field of matter and anti-matter oscillating in and out of existence at the same frequency as the electron and positron oscillates.

Emergence is the way complex systems and patterns arise out of a multiplicity of relatively simple interactions. My vote goes with this idea. I think the wave/particle duality arises because of some undiscovered more fundamental interactions.

In the standard model, there are 4 forces gravity, weak, strong and electromagnetic. An oscillator requires a driving force, but there is no mention of such a force. My question is which force is driving the oscillations of a wave function,is it the weak force.

Would polarized light be a 2 dimensional wave function?

So are you saying that as the ball travels through time(4th dimension) the balls path is already curved waiting for me to let it drop?
-
Is a photon a 2 dimensional wave function that spins on an axis through 3 dimensions/time?
-
I have a question. If I throw a ball against a wall it would bounce back to me. if I throw a ball that is spinning at 100 revs/min against a wall it would bounce back at an angle. if I throw a ball that is spinning at 1000 revs/min against a wall it would bounce back at a higher angle. My question is how does the diffraction of light work. Is the frequency of light a rate of spin?

a quote by D H:- "mass tells space-time how to curve, and space-time tells mass how to move". If I hold a ball 2 metres above the ground that ball is stationary, when I let go how does curved space-time tell the stationary ball to accelerate towards the earth? The analogy with the trampoline and a bowling ball is an example of earth's gravity in action not an explanation of how gravity works.

What makes an electron orbit?
derek w replied to QuestionMark's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
juanrga are you saying that an electron is neither an oscillation nor a wave function? If so how do you explain the interference pattern in fig:- e -
ok thanks. next question if the atom keeps absorbing photons until an electron is emitted and the atom becomes an ion,it then remains an ion until when? When hit but another electron which knocks out a photon?

juanrga the word "particle" is a misleading word and should not be taken as a literal description. -
What is a magnetic field exactly?
derek w replied to sr.vinay's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
Yes and under the right conditions the energy of the photons can be converted back into an electron and positron. The point I was trying to get at, is MASS a measure of how much energy is trapped in one place? For a period of time. -
question. When an atom absorbs a photon is it the electron that absorbs the photon?

If I have 2 atoms atom(a) and atom(b) separated by a distance 300,000,000 metres. If atom(a) emits a photon which travels as a wave with a frequency of 10^14 to atom(b) and is absorbed. Then atom(a) decreases in mass and atom(b) increases in mass. If a photon is a virtual particle and travels as a wave of matter and anti-matter popping in and out of existence,at a rate of 10^14 times per second in 10^14 points over a distance of 300,000,000 metres between atom(a) and atom(b).Then the mass appears in 10^14 different places. But once it is absorbed by atom(b) the mass appears 10^14 times per second in the same place atom(b).Therefore the mass of atom(b) increases. And the photon is both a photon and anti-photon at the same time. -
electric current and flow of electrons through a conductor

Ok.Thanks Joatman for your answer, but pulse velocity and drift velocity are not the same thing.
