  1. I really wish that people are influenced by it and do not re-elect Bush.
  2. My discrete mathematics course went on to define numbers, so now we do use them, though we first establish even the most intuitively obvious properties. It si an excellent course if you want to perfect your skills in logic, it helps you learn how to break down complex statements into simpler ones and then do a detailed analysis. And then there are algorithms whose understanding needs this form of maths as a pre requisite.
  3. I thought twas illegal to keep turtles as pets, atleast it is over here !
  4. No. Its just too small. I would think it is intuitive. Consider it in the light of the Heisenberg principle of uncertainty. Yes of course ! Check out the Davisson-Germer experiment, which first established their exsistance. It is based on diffraction of electron waves.
  5. I am currently doing discrete maths (I am in 2nd year - major in computer science) It is a very beatiful subject if you ask me. I find it extremely intriguing, and it is extremely usefull as well. The last topic covered in my lectures was on directed graphs which are widely used in computer science. There are of course transitive closures of these graphs as well, which are again very useful things (Warshall Algorithm). The very essence of maths is explored in the topic, and I feel it is something everyone who intends to have anything to do with logic later on, must do.
  6. Under particular circumstance this phenomena may be observed amongst other birds too. Eg. Protecting offspring Why doesn't shear size matter here ? Is it brain:body weight ratio or just simply the brain size ? I must add that the crow for all its smartness is often fooled by the cuckoo.
  7. Given the mass of a human being the wavelength is of the order of [MATH]10^{-30}[/MATH] which is practically negligible. Plus there is a lot of difference between matter waves and EM-waves, light does not come into the picture.
  8. No, there was no question of swallowing it. I was supposed to figure out how efficiently I could carry out acetylation, plus it wasn't exactly prepared for consumption. Often lots of stuff in the lab has been denatured so you are fore warned not to put anything into your mouth. Plus i needed to put in conc sulphuric acid to catalyse the reaction so no question of swallowing it ! In ayurvedic medicine willow bark is prescribed for aches and fever.
  9. You can try and directly put the photon into the loop, you needn't go about trying to close the loop, that'll be impractical.

It is based on number of posts
  11. Maybe your shoulders were sagging after a long day and you were not standing upright at night. I see no reson why we should have a variable height.
  12. Phase velocity AND wave velocity

    Helium

Draw Free Body Diagram of sytem (Balloon + Object). Represent all forces (including bouyancy) and just apply F=ma along each axis.
  14. In base 7 answer is 612 not 613 In base 8 answer is 601 not 602
  15. If you change it to 123 + 456 =612 (and not 512 as in the original post) then base = 7
  16. Population control may be achieved in the developed world. But such things will be out of reach for developing countries not only at the present but for some time to come. A major hinderance there is illeteracy. I'd like to say that population control can't be enough. It would stop or halt degredation of the environment, but it won't repair it. You have to start getting pro-active. Nature's self-healing is not a quick process, and we can't depend on its occurance. Starting a counter-culture ..... going a bit too extreme !
  17. Aspirin is extremely simple to make. You need to acetylate salicylic acid. The reaction is straight forward and all the ingredients are commonly available in labs. I have myself made some once in my chem lab.
  18. The equation cannot have an integral base (123+456=512), hence is invalid.
  19. Once you put it in an optical fibre, thats also "containment". (You could go and put a loop in the fibre)
  20. IC 7404 : Inverter It has 6 NOT gates I had a data sheet which instructed me to connect 3 NOT gates in series to construct an inverter. Does this technique have any advantage over having just a single NOT gate (The only difference I can imagine is a delayed signal) ?
  21. Bush becomes president......and then you have an orgasm !!!

    Helium

The problem is equivalent to that of a body floating in a fluid (Archimedes principle), its a question of bouyancy that helium experiences in air. Beyond a certain altitude, no rise is possible as density of helium will match density of air.
  23. I tried solving using a different method from yours by writing vectorial differential equations for acceleartion, velocity and position. It becomes easier, you can calculate position as a function of time and velocity as a function of time. Try it out, if you are unable to do it, i'll post up my complete solution.
  24. Its not made from no-where. Not gates require a power supply (Generally 5V), they don't work by magic )
  25. Like the yellowing that nitric acid causes, did this too impart some colour to your skin ? ) And out of curiosity, is HI colourles in aqueous solution ?
