I do believe that most of discrete maths is well beyond the level of the school going community. Certainly the learning groups, rings, fields, vector spaces, algebras etc. etc. should only be attempted once one has grasped well the more basic concepts in maths.

Hotmail is very slow to catch up. My inbox size still remains at 2MB, been hearing about this upgrade for 250MB for quite sometime, but it doesn't seem to have happened to my account. Atleast yahoo upgraded to 100MB soon after gmail was introduced. Thats primarily why I stopped using hotmail sometime ago. Theres also a free service offering 1 GB storage at http://www.rediff.com , this is quite fast as well but unlike gmail it does have a lot of adverts.

We have lots of purple hearts here in India. In fact I got some growing in my garden too. The purple colouration is due to a pigment (I forget my 9th std biology and hence the pigment name) which performs the function of chlorophyll. What I like best about gmail is their powerful labelling system which helps in organising your mail and is much better than folders.

Acctualy my course steered clear of most properties of polynomials, so I am not sure of that proof. We went on to do vector spaces and matrices after ring theory. What i found extremely intriguing was that ring theory had made the proof of unique prime factorisation much easier than it seemed to be intuitively. Often during group and ring theory the proofs of several theorems were trivialised. (Another example is fermat's little theorem)

I don´t know about mimicing ability, but what I can tell you is that you´ll almost never see it alone, they´re nearly always found in groups. The bank myna is locally called ¨lali¨ in Punjab (¨lali" means the red one). Often the local names of birds reveal a lot about their habits and plumage. The sarus as per folklore is a very cunning creature and is a part of several childhood stories. I saw it in a bird sancturay. But its also a very common visitor to the city zoo (They have this area where migrating birds can be spotted seasonally).

The unique prime factorisation theorem is something I did in the first year too. I did it using ring theory ................ It was quite an easy proof I must say. Polynomial of degree n has n roots is not too dissimilar, can be done using ring/group theory too.

Yes. You have to group in fours either side of decimal point and replace the group by approprite hex value.

There is a formal proof wherein you analyse the algorithm assymptotically. I studied physics in first year - electrodynamics, optics and quantum mechanics. Presently doing a course in applied mechanics called engineering mchanics which is quite difficult i must add. I think the reasons behind that have more to do with the way your body is built and less with your mental make up. Thats just a physical irregularity. Thats very true. Crying is indeed an excellent coping mechanism. don't know why but it does seem to reduce stress ( thoug it often stresses up people around you ).

The cost of living here is quite low, and there are a lot of job seeking people, which is why lots of people are a part of this industry. Bangalore is the Indian computer science hub. They work for so less merely because of the enormous numbers of people offering this service. But you must note that there are some very big Indian companies into software now too, they offer cheaper services as compared to some others again because even a high end payscale here is much less than what it would be in the US. I must add that most out sourcing is in the form of call centres. Theres a very nice chance that when you in the US call up a helpline for almost any product, your calls are diverted to India and someone is answering you with a fake name and a fake accent. Its an enormous industry nowadays, flourishing only because the pay scales here are extremely favourable to the employers. Also the telephone costs are not all that great even though the distances involved are enormous (Thats mainly because these people go on and hire sattelites for the purpose or rent some major communication backbone)
