does it really matter if its a crappy actor or a skilled one? Should anyone own 30 houses? probably not, but should we have the luxury to even think about this kind of thing while people in the third world work themselves to death in order to survive? probably not. Life ain't fair and you should probably be happy about that.

I hope you are correct, but I think Obama will not want to expend any political capital on this issue - especially since he is against it. I can't see it happening in the southern states, unless by federal law.

It's called politics and it can be ugly at times. If your an atheist or homosexual, you better cover it up if you want to be elected. If you are a certain color, then you may need to move somewhere else to be elected. As long as the appointee appears to be qualified, I don't see that big an issue. I would HOPE a very qualified woman could be found to fill that position, otherwise some serious work needs to be done. If a weak candidate is selected, then that does deservice to the position, the candidate and the demographic they represent - really to everyone. It will be nice when the demographics of the person becomes unimportant. With a more diverse bench, hopefully this will happen.

http://www.adherents.com/gov/Founding_Fathers_Religion.html I think the Founding Fathers were overwhelmingly Christian. However, anyone running for office would have to pump up his religious credentials to be elected, even more than they do today. We also should remember that there was not one Christianity - there were several flavors that may have prevented a union if the government was seen as favoring one over the other. It is clear that the Founding Fathers were more concerned about creating a working union than representing their particular religious faith through government. As usual, religion wants its cake after eating it. A Christian nation, like a Christian person, seems to give credit to the religion for all the good that comes of it, while claiming anything bad to be due to other influences. In this way, religion can play in the "dirty" affairs of men, while remaining clean and pure.

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090427/carnews/904279995http:// I think BMW's niche in America was not to be economical. Americans who buy BMW's weren't buying them for better gas mileage, but for premium perfomance. If they want a small engine, they will buy Japanese.

This line sums it up nicely for me.

Muslim offended Nope, read the link. A muslim was offended. Wow, I wonder why? Must be a terrorist? These briefings were intended for W really, but assuming all the other top brass would approve of it is unprofessional. Since the distribution was so limited, I don't care about W getting his little fix. But it was still taking a big risk for such little value. Remember, we were fighting extremists and trying to win the hearts and minds of the general muslim. I would have much more respect for W if some of those slides had Islamic passages. But multicultural he ain't. LOL imagine if we find similar briefs for the Afghan war for Obama with Muslim sayings or Atheist statements, like "Prayer didn't work, so here we go." I'm sure everyone would be just fine with that.

LOL Southern White Evangelical American Republicans Party SWEAR They might even like it.

The story continues This is really a sad story. I can't imagine the kid taking chemo against his will and his parents. It might make more sense to let him die at this point. Pretty sad.

It almost looks like a comedy sketch after awhile. I thought it was a joke. I can understand the need for moral boosting, but trying to push some of those verses just seems idiotic. Glad it didn't leak back in 2005 and I hope it doesn't cause any huge problems now.

Not to mention less pumps available as well - unless you goto a truck stop.

I wonder how they will count an all-electric vehicle.

When a few protesters interrupted President Obama's speech at the Notre Dame graduation by shouting, "Stop killing our children!" the student body replied by chanting, "Yes, we can."

My guess is they figured it would further restrict credit lines to consumers, which is one of the chief problems with the economy.

surely someone has found a way to download porn through a water medium.

you should have tried your experiment before posting, because the placebo effect would be more effective without reading all the skeptical points in this thread. Good luck.

Is there a scientific case for an Intelligent Designer?
john5746 replied to Alan McDougall's topic in Speculations
While we know the universe isn't static and was at one time very dense, I don't think we know that it hasn't always existed. http://www.colorado.edu/philosophy/vstenger/Briefs/FineBrief1.pdf From the link -
So we would have to try and make a system that tries to limit this natural tendency, just as we do with social systems. Can't eliminate it, but smaller, more targeted parties might be better than two big tent parties?

Is there a scientific case for an Intelligent Designer?
john5746 replied to Alan McDougall's topic in Speculations
If someone posits the need for a designer because of complexity or first cause, then this question is relevant, because it reveals the tail chasing that they are engaged in. The parameters could be arbitrary just as our earth might be arbitrary - then life adjusted to it, not the other way around. Per Stenger, adjusting several constants, instead of just one at a time - can produce universes that might have life. Our imaginations are also limited as to what type of life can be created. Also, why is life special? Because we think it is? Every possible universe would be fine tuned - if no intelligent entity arises to ask the question, then it was fine tuned to be clean of this viral, messy life? -
I am a fan, but with the original I was more a Nimoy fan than anything else. His voice is right up there with Morgan Freeman. I will be disappointed with anyone trying to replace Spock, but I will have to watch it.

Can You Come Up With an Experiment to Prove There is a Soul?
john5746 replied to jimmydasaint's topic in Speculations
There would be room for further investigation. People have phantom pain from limbs that no longer exist. That doesn't mean that pain is independent of the body. -
now we know where martial art films started. Students making the old guy look good.

1) I think we probably underestimate the variables required for advanced technology using life to arise. 2) We have only lived for a short time - we assume that we will continue to be successful and dominate, but the meek seem to survive destruction much better. Perhaps technology is just good for sprinting, but not for the long haul.
