  1. I'm not sure if that is truly known. It will definitely scorch the earth as a red giant, but it may not engulf the earth. The earth may escape the gravitational pull.

    Iran

I see no problem with it IF it is a military target and they do indeed have nuclear weapons. Also, we should say in advance that if they do not allow us to inspect and they build nuclear weapons, we will destroy them by all means possible, including a nuclear attack. Even more importantly, if the weapons are used, we will respond using nuclear weapons if we want to. There was an interesting show on the history channel last night concerning the A-bomb. They talked about the US race to make the bomb and that the Germans were not nearly as close as we thought. History seems to repeat itself over and over again.
  3. You got me, probably prior to WWII? Were Clinton's surpluses actually a surplus, counting SSI?
  4. Yes, we seem to be having our own private discussion about my finances. Well, I have a mortgage, which means I have debt. But, I pay the monthly P & I payments and all my other bills and still can put money in retirement, savings and stocks. So, I define this as not running an annual deficit. I do have a debt, but not annual deficits, and I am not living with my parents. You are correct, I could borrow up to my eyeballs and leverage that money to create the next Google or Apple, or I could go bankrupt. So, I think the US should have debt, I just don't like the unending deficits, especially with the interest rates going higher and higher. I thought Perot was a Parrot! My bad!

  6. I think the woman who has the abortion is the one who has the real pain. If the baby feels pain it is very temporary, while the woman may suffer a lifetime for her decision. But, it is her choice.

    Scandal de Jur

I think reporters just smell something fishy and will pounce on anything that points higher up. If the information declassified has nothing to do with Plame then I don't see any problems. If it does, then it looks like a cover up. That is what many, including myself are wondering. Why did Libby perjure himself? His he just and idiot? Maybe...

    Can Hillary win?

Actually, hate is an operative word nowadays. My father disliked Bush's policies, but hated Kerry, because of Vietnam. If you can get people to hate the other candidate, you don't need to win on issues or debate, etc. Reasons for being against Hillary: 1) Healthcare plan she introduced was considered socialist and would have destroyed the country as we know it. 2) She is married to Bill. 3) She comes across as arrogant. All would be Presidents do and probably should have some arrogance. But, the good ones hide it well. She doesn't and that is especially unbecoming a "lady" The first one is related to policy and can be easily overcome, but 2 & 3 are more difficult. She would do well against an arrogant or aggressive opponent, then she will look "strong" instead of "pushy" or "b*tchy" It is a shame it all comes down to emotions like this, but hey we only have two choices anyway. Maybe we should all flip a coin, or get a monkey to throw a dart.
  10. RedAlert, Aaah to be a teen again! I enjoyed reading this thread. I am assuming you are a teen or college age. I remember most people, including myself being insecure at this age. I still am in some respects, but nothing like then. All I can say is: 1) Don't be afraid to fail. If you truly want something and it seems reasonable, go for it. If you fail, you at least tried and probably enjoyed the effort. 2) Learn from your mistakes. In this case, don't build a wall around yourself and never approach a girl again, but try to be more subtle about it. It is a game with rules and nuances that add to the excitement and frustration! 3) Remember that this girl also has insecurities and faults. If you truly care for her, you can accept that and continue to like her from afar. This is part of maturity. 4) You must respect her life and realize this problem is entirely yours. Give her space and maybe send her a card on a birthday or Christmas(not valentines!) saying "Your Friend Always." Don't talk about her with other friends, etc. 5) Love yourself! This is a hard one for some people, but it is very important. Don't expect someone to complete you or make you feel better. That will scare most people and you will more than likely be disappointed in the end. You seem like a good person just relax and enjoy life. Go to a dance and hit on some girls you don't know. Have fun.
  11. If I were President, I would relocate some of the National Guard from Iraq and at home to the Mexican Border. We will probably need some for another round of hurricanes, so we may not be able to use as many as needed, but it would be a start. The only reason we have a problem is the sheer number that are crossing. The border is the root cause, and until we figure out what we are going to do, we need National Guardsman down there to slow it down.
  12. I said I don't spend more than I earn EVERY year, and you turned that into something else. You have a habit of posting several times arguing about your interpretation of what someone said. You will make a fine lawyer someday! I don't have any stats, but fixed loans, where a portion of your payment goes towards the principle, are still fairly common.
  13. I'm glad you finally understand my debt situation. You do manage to listen once in awhile. Debt for education, sounds like a good investment, I guess.
  14. I like that I pretty much don't care what others think of me... except my family and I still treat others with respect.

    Can Hillary win?

If she wins, she will have Bush to thank for it, just as Bush should thank Clinton for winning. Gore would have trampled him if he didn't have the cloud of Clinton hanging over him.
  17. ...Thus, in the earliest stages of a contraction, for example, employers may choose not to dismiss workers but instead to use them less intensively or assign them tasks that do not involve current production, such as maintenance or training. Measured productivity growth consequently declines when the economy enters a recession. Similarly, during the early stages of an economic recovery, employers may hesitate to add new workers and instead may ask existing employees to work harder, at least until the expansion seems better established. Output per hour of work thus tends to rise faster than its secular (long-run) rate early in the recovery. Finally, as the expansion matures and hiring picks up, productivity growth tends to slow again as the level of employee effort returns to normal and as the need to devote firm resources to hiring and training new workers detracts from current production. At present, three years from the official end of the 2001 recession, the U.S. economy has likely entered this latter stage, as productivity growth appears to be falling from its recent high levels to a rate that is likely below its longer-term trend.
  18. No, Reagan and Bush have proven that you can reduce taxes forever and everything just gets better and better!
  19. The link I provided did address that, search for 2001 and then read. It addresses productivity increases since 1995 and postulates on why they increased even more post 2001, even after the 9/11 attacks, recession, etc. You won't find tax cuts in there, but I agree it should have helped - I spent my extra dollars on something, sure didn't save it at that time. Please educate yourself on the difference between debt and deficit. Most people cannot run a deficit for very long. They will lose their belongings and goto jail. http://www.greatreality.com/DebtFAQ.htm
  20. That's fine, I'm not going to tell you how I find your arguments. Productivity magically skyrockets in one year based only on some tax cuts! Nevermind all the investment in IT during the 90's, trimming of Fat(layoffs), lowering wages and overtime work for no pay common in a recovery, low payed immigrants and outsourcing. No, that had nothing to do with it. http://www.federalreserve.gov/BoardDocs/speeches/2005/20050119/default.htm That's like saying that Islamic terrorism is all Bush's fault, oh wait a minute, you would say that if you were on the other side. I don't know about you, but I am not spending more than I earn every year and keep planning on doing that as a policy. I also don't plan on everything going rosy, I expect there may be some bad years in my future, so I actually have some savings. Yes, I am a grownup and manage debt quite well, unlike the federal government.
  21. We don't understand alot about the Brain either, but we are pretty sure there isn't a ghost in there making it all work.
  22. Ha Ha Ha!! I am all for tax cuts but, I would say Bush's example would be that borrowing money like there is no tomorrow makes selective spending unnecessary and future chaos likely. Productivity started really increasing during Bush I Why is it strategically vital? because we are addicts?(His words) clear strategy? That's too easy... Bush's message: We can rebuild Iraq, keep their borders secure and keep them from civil war. But, we cannot secure our borders, run our ports, help our people in disaster or even attempt to pay our debt.
  23. I think probably so. When you hear something in the woods and you wonder, "Who's there?" You believe there is a threat. You can investigate and confirm, or just bolt on the belief. I believe it is probably something basic like that, not a specific belief in something.
  24. I got the joke - I knew Jimmy was a nuclear engineer. Didn't know he did so well in school. So, intelligence doesn't always equate with leadership. Yep. And since we did have prosperity under Clinton, effective leaders can have character flaws. And what do we learn from Bush? Having your Dad in high places really helps!
