I see one big hole. Let the idea die. Sounds like the final solution. I would rather the human race die out having been free than be "perfect" as robots.

They are protesting - it is their right, don't you think? If they want to have excessive unemployment, who are we to say they are wrong? Someday, we may be faced with working 7-day weeks and working our children to compete with the Chinese. Is there a point when you say enough with this competition and lets have a life?

No, I am disputing your general conclusions from that. The military has to say and believe they will win. His conclusion was that we could not win militarily - the same conclusion McNamara has now and said he had before the war. So, the media apparently isn't as susceptible to group think now. Well, the military is the very definition of group think. So, I guess you believe the media is no longer a problem in the Iraq war, correct?

Oh yeah, blame it on the messenger. McNamara and the Johnson Admin had made the public think the end of the war was always just around the corner and then the enemy actually strikes an offensive. The Public still supported the war years after that report. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/asia/vietnam/mcnamara_4-17-95.html I do think more choice in media is a good thing. Unfortunately, people seem to have poor taste. They want to watch Jerry Springer type news instead of informative broadcasts. But, it is a choice.

I agree with you, both points are bigoted and invalid, although swiping all secularists is more broad than evangelical Christians. But, I can still compare those evangelicals who consider the whole Islamic religion evil to those imams who think the opposite. Edited: As for the Amr Khaled guy, well the evangelicals can invite him to speak to their sheep. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Adolescents are not considered mature enough to make certain decisions, that is why no smoking, drinking, war, don't have to work, statutory rape, etc.

I think parents should be informed about the sex ed prior to it happening. The child should hear it from their parents first, so at least give them the opportunity. Also, abstinence is the best policy - but nine weeks is enough for ALL sex ed!!

I think Stalin would be a better fit for the Left. Jesus would be a moderate social conservative, fiscal liberal, IMO.

I feel rather confident had we taken him out in 91, 9/11 still would have happened. So, if the past is any guide, Saddam was probably more of a threat in 90 than he was in 03. We didn't take him out then and we seemed to do OK. An easier question to answer is that if we pursue this nation building in Syria, Pakistan and Iran we will spend the country into ruin.

We can decide not to have to pay for stadiums, etc. For example, we could pass laws requiring sports teams to reserve enough money to pay and maintain stadiums and some of the maintenance for the roads to them and to have a cap on admissions. If they still have enough money to pay the players outrageously, so be it. One way salaries for public workers can be determined is by comparing the salary to the private sector. If they can get more benefits, pay etc. to lure many to the private sector, then there will be a shortage of teachers, which would increase demand, increasing pay. I think teachers get paid quite well IMO. I don't think elementary teachers need a 4 year degree. Just alot of patience!

Not surprising, part of the Bravado. You know, give 110%.

I guess we need to allow advertising in schools, especially with the advent of smart classes, where you would have an audience of many students. That way, business could fund education. As far a entertainment, if the actors don't get huge wages, we would have poor quality entertainment, with ordinary, untrained people as actors doing stupid things... wait a minute

Getting a majority vote doesn't give someone the right to be unethical though. I think this particular case is overkill, but I think elected officials should follow a code of ethical behavior. Just because you vote for someone doesn't mean you knew he was a bigot.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/23/AR2006022301879.html Mammels may have been more diverse during the Dino age than previously thought?

Not quite against it. I think they at least wanted some time to learn more about the deal. A resonable request I think. I think the UAE has agreed to delay, probably at Bush's request.

1) As has been stated, the situations are different 2) Even if they are the same, a company will fight when they can. I am sure if the US government wanted them to censor some information, Google would put up a fight. That doesn't mean they should expect the same protection every where in the world This does bring up the question that if China wanted information on their citizens from Google, should the US government get involved? If Pakistan wanted information on some of their citizens from Google, should that be allowed?

Did you forget about the New Orleans speech already? If only the media had been there to film the shooting. Then, we would have had outrage by the elderly, prompting Cheney to offer free healthcare for all of the elderly.

George Bush using religion to make decisions regarding cloning GRrrrr
john5746 replied to Sashatheman's topic in Politics
Huh? Science is just a tool. Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be done. Ethics is important. I don't see excessive dogma in his reasoning. I could see Einstein using creator in the same way. I disagree with him on stem cells and cloning, but I do see the need for some ethical framework for the scientific community. I think many scientists would agree. -
Didn't sound like it, but joking or not, if the role was reversed, white man saying this about another group, the guy would be fired and labeled a racist. I don't think he should be fired, just labeled a moron.

The press just wants to be the first too a story and will try to spin anything to get people interested. Their agenda is to sell the story, but I think there is just too much media and too much stress on getting it out there fast. Quality has gone out the door. A man has been shot and had a heart attack. Get a statement from Cheney, a statement from the victim and perhaps talk about gun safety. That is the real story.
