Coquina - I find your posts interesting, as I myself am interested in starting a business. I keep thinking, if I own a restaurant, do I have the right to only serve people that I want to? We've been down that road before. If I can't pick and choose my customers based on criteria that has nothing to do with ability to pay, why can I pick and choose employees for the same criteria? I guess the devil is in the details. I sure wouldn't want to be sued if I have 10 white employees and no minorities. I guess with small companies, we can hope that the few that discriminate won't affect the overall job market for a given group. I would say at the very least, a private company can't have it written that they will not hire people based on race, religion, etc. They must be able to support the reason for not hiring fat people for example. If it has an effect on work performance, then it is OK. Of course, they will be able to discriminate anyway, but you can't legislate a perfect society.

Well, who says you can't beat a dead horse? Nice conversation Coral. Oh and to the cyber police - I am not trying to start a suicide ring! Bad timing on my part.

You are correct, i don't have much contact with mentally ill, etc. I should narrow my broad strokes somewhat. I am not saying all mad people should be killed. I am saying that repeatability is also a concern. If a mentally retarded individual kills and seems likely to kill again - aggressive, etc. why should he be regarded differently than a normal person who is this way? Now, if a psychotic or mentally retarded individual makes a "mistake" and isn't likely to do it again, that's a different story, although these things are difficult to say.

My answer to this question is yes. One bullet in the back of the head. Maybe 10 if I know the victim personally. You didn't ask me would I be willing to pay for lawyers to fight over the idiot's life while he sits on death row. No I wouldn't. I am opposed to the death penalty as is because of the cost. That is one of the major benefits I see for the death penalty is saving money. If it doesn't save money, it isn't worth it, of course we could streamline the deal for obvious cases - video tape, etc. I don't have a problem with it ethically.

It's amazing what drugs will do to the human mind.

Would those of you who are pro-life be willing to pay for all his expenses out of your own pocket? This goes for abortion too.

I guess for me, since the death penalty is more for getting rid of waste, I am not too concerned with mad or bad. I am concerned with threat potential. Ok, the rabid dog wasn't the best example, so if ANY dog mauls or kills a child, then it needs to be killed. No need to keep it around, feeding it, etc. Did it know it was doing something "bad" - who cares, it might do it again. And with the drunk driver, I am more concerned with someone who keeps drinking and driving than OJ Simpson. That doesn't mean I want to live near OJ, that just means the drunken driver is the bigger threat IMO. Both should be locked up forever or killed.

How come this stance isn't called Pro-Death?

Actually, Bush has Condi Rice doing some things that Kerry suggested. You are correct, if Kerry had won and was doing the exact same thing, the repubs would be complaining. -

He is a "bad" guy, yes. We do need to respond, but we don't need to act crazy everytime someone makes a statement or does something we disapprove. They haven't been agressive lately, I see no reason to think they will be that way, unless we invade. Show them the stick, and hope we don't need to use it. -
If narcissism is genetic, it should be very successful!

I like that. China must deal with Asia. Saudi Arabia must deal with the Middle East. The US cannot go alone. -
You, please quit wasting everone's time and close this thread! Deficient environments play a greater role with certain genes! What the heck is deficient anyway? Is it the environment or the way the person perceives the environment' date=' reacts to the environment? Make everyone watch PBS, goto church, etc. Some would love this, some would shoot themselves. How do you decide which environment to apply to which person? You have a one size fits all environment for everyone? Twins Mental Disorder Yes, you can use this to argue about the environment again. But, I have never seen a 100% correlation/cure for anything, so I see a huge opportunity for gene therapy someday for bipolar disorder. I agree, so if you have one child that is calm and cool and another that is a pain in the a**, then you TREAT THEM DIFFERENTLY. They may need a DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENT. So, being ignorant of a gene that may predispose them to whatever would be an uninformed environment. Yes, I pulled this out of my magic hat. Where did you pull your BS out of?

Physician\Pharmacist Roles Even patients should play a role in therapy if possible. Relying on doctors only is disaster - they have too little time.

It is somewhat valid in that the only reason we are interested in the Middle East at all is because of Oil. If the Middle East had no oil, it would be like Africa - oh, too bad, such a shame, send some food and medicine... And, if all goes well, we will be able to get oil and be involved with them much more. The war in Iraq was obviously over security in the Middle East, just like Desert Shield. Countries usually fight wars in their own interests. The well-being of the citizenry is secondary. I see no problem with that. -

I say we put nuclear weapons into South Korea, big time. It worked with the Soviet Union, I think it will work with North Korea, maybe even Iran, Pakistan and India. If anyone uses a weapon, their country is toast. I know one thing, the US cannot keep rebuilding nations. We already have nukes, just move them. Of course we can continue to talk and try to trade with them, etc.
