Interesting information about sweatshops and child labor

I say we don't "give" them anything. If giving them jobs and food hurts them, then giving them equipment or anything else is bound to hurt someone. -

Corporate America = American stockholders. When the stocks don't go up, people sell. Sweatshops, etc are bad, but keep in mind America can't fix the world. If Nike, or Disney isn't there, do you think they would go home and play nintendo? They might starve, or work for someone else. It would be nice if some of the profits from the US corps would go to improving working conditions in the countries, but who knows what the countries would do with the money. Just having the companies there probably helps their economy. IT workers in the US need a union. Man, these companies work your A** off, then get rid of you once they get some Indians trained. -

Defense contractors could also pitch in. The wounded, especially the psychologically wounded get lost in the shuffle though. -
You are running to save your friend, you pull the gun, but the monster's sword slices through your friend's neck. "oh well, he's dead, can't kill the monster now." yeah right.

You can't just look at a result and make them equal. Intent is also important. A soldier kills, not necessarily in self defense. If I kill him on my own, against the law, then yes it is murder. If I am ordered to kill him, then no it isn't murder.

Ok..my bad I am sure there will be many problems with the election. It is a first and look what they are dealing with. It's a big positive overall.

he mentioned waiting until 21 in his post. Anyway, this is good news from Iraq. I hope it slows the violence.

26th Amendment, 1971 - 18 year olds can vote. Many do not though.

There have been similar discussions. My opinion boils down to economics. In this particular case, the guy is guilty without a doubt, so the argument of killing an innocent is out the window. As for victim revenge, I don't think society should be seeking revenge, otherwise, we would let the victim inact the punishment. The problem with locking the guy up is (1) he could possibly escape and (2) it costs money. (1) is very unlikely, but (2) is guaranteed. Now, if we are allowed to keep him in a turkish style prison with no medical care, etc. that may be ok, but as it is they get better care than some citizens. So, I would be all for shooting him in the back of the head. The problem is with our legal system, it costs as much if not more to execute someone, so might as well just let the guy live and hopefully he will get some payback in prison.

Some need care their entire lives. If you could "beam" the fetus out of the womb with no damage/danger to the woman, into another womb, then I would equate this to a 3 month old baby situation. I don't think you should kill a 3 month old baby when there are people who will take care of the baby. Same with any sick person who needs care.

"Oh yeah, another thing, don't plan on serving California wine at your state dinners. From now on it's imported French wine for you. Ouch, bet that hurts." We got Jack Daniels, who needs wine? Where would the Yanks go when they retire?

Was Iraq the number one supporter of terrorism? I thought there was something about WMD's getting in the hands of terrorists, then it became Saddam is a bad dictator who killed many people, now its to spread democracy all over the world.

So, he was either stupid, and thought these payments would not be viewed as atta-boys and help spurn more bombers, or he was making payments for a job well done.

I bet you didn't do it twice!! I had a friend who pissed on an electric fence. -
I have heard Saddam paid the families of Hamas suicide bombers. Not a reason to goto war, and not an American problem, but that would be supporting terrorism, if it is true.

I guess if someone must leave their country under dire consequences it is ok, but otherwise, it seems strange to me to be a citizen of one country, yet decide the leadership of another.

Gallstones - similar to Martin, without the urine deal. Feels just like the guy on Alien - except it doesn't come out by itself. -
Iraqi's all over the world are participating in the election in Iraq. Even second-generation American Iraqis are allowed to vote. Should this be allowed?

The right is already trying to blame Iraq problems on anti-war efforts. People are saying things will go much smoother and better if everyone would quit complaining. This was done in Vietnam also.

My parents were married to each other at the age of 17. My father was from middle class, he was to be an architect. My mother's family was on welfare. They both dropped out of school and got married - to live on love I guess. The same day my Mother learned she was pregnant, my Father was laid off as a bag boy. He joined the Air Force and they traveled the world - Japan, England, Germany, and various states. He went to Vietnam when I was 1 year old. After retiring from the Air Force, he got his BA and MA in Business Admin and became an administrator for the local college. They had 4 children. When my father was in Vietnam, my Mother took care of all 4. She also traveled to Japan alone with 2 boys. They are living happily ever after currently....
