  1. Kamikazi pilots come to mind. They were soldiers attacking military targets, but the mindset is the same. These are only the peons though. The big guys like Osama, etc. They plan, get money, etc. They don't plan to die for the cause. Some terrorists are probably desperate, normal people. Some probably are mentally sick. It is easy to look at beheadings, etc and think that we are above such behavior. Dropping the bombs on Japan was much worse, but we feel we can justify it. They feel the same way probably.
  2. OOps. Actually, the only way he could be sure is if they both have white hats If they guess right or wrong, he will know they have white hats and that he must have a red hat.
  3. The point is that Flu and healthcare IS an issue, not the remark.
  4. Unfortunately, many people decide with their 'gut' on things like this. The only thing they remember from the debates are 'global' and 'lesbian' and that Bush isn't coherant, but means what he says. The remarks about Kerry hunting and windsurfing, etc. aren't low blows, but still in the same vain of distraction.
  5. For a high school to show something for free, should at least be educational. Colleges of course can do anything they want.
  6. Against because I think we should not experiement with human material without at least the intent of benefit to the human race and to the 'human' itself.
  7. Unfortunately, many societies favor boys over girls. This isn't the fault of communism. China tried 'real' communism and watched the population starve. There is a very real possibility for revolution, that is why the government still rules with an iron hand.
  8. I agree totally.
  9. The person in the article simply thinks it won't work. He is probably correct. I would be ok with it, but the devil is in the details. But, we shouldn't just give up.
  10. I haven't seen the commercial, but they may be referring to projected deficits. I have seen this number as a projected deficit in future years. Projections are used by both sides to make grand statements about the future as if it is fact.
  11. I have heard this might change due to grade "inflation". Seems high schools started giving higher grades to students after this law was passed. Who knew? You would think other states would learn from this and base the tuition on test scores and SAT on a percentage basis, so the number could be fixed or predicted.
  12. Yes, add the Russians to the list. I guess we need to have a good war against France, to respect them. France seems to play the role of the protestor. They are a friend, but they aren't yes men. That can be frustrating at times (Libia?), but if we listen, we may avoid mistakes from time to time.
  13. Wow, that is a big difference. And his performance in 2000 was better than 2004. He is actually more comfortable with domestic issues, that is why I was surprised when the gurus thought Kerry would cut him up on the domestic front. He is coached more than when he was a governor and it shows.
  14. Sounds like the Brits can teach us a thing or two. If we don't want American troops under foriegn control(except for Iraq), then we can't expect another country to do it.
  15. I basically agree, most people who have the intellect should be able to get the resources they need. Unfortunately, we have some taking remedial classes to be able to handle college coursework. One problem I see is that a 4 year degree doesn't pay off as well as it did in the past. Especially, technical degrees - in a space of 4 years, you may find your degree not as "hot". I don't think it has anything to do with the Presidential race though.
  16. I think these were brought up in the debates. Halliburton in the VP debate. I don't remember the ANSWERS though. Basically, goes something like this: Bush: I made no mistakes, it ain't so bad, will get better. Kerry: Everything is Bush's fault, I will do better.
  17. I agree somewhat with what he is saying, but there is more media today than ever. I think you can find just about whatever you want. To me, if he really is serious, he should quit doing political comedy.
  18. [quote name=Phi for All If the Middle East can develope a more diversified economy using their oil riches now' date=' they won't get left holding the bag (or barrel).[/quote] I think this is a major problem. Resource rich countries never seem to invest in their people, which is the most valuable resource. This makes it difficult to have a middle class. I think loosing dependence on oil can help the Middle East as much as it will everyone else.
  19. I think Bush displayed to everyone that he doesn't think well on his feet, some feel he doesn't think very well at all. I was trying to imagine him interviewing for ANY job last night. I don't think he could get a job on his own in this economy. Kerry bugged me with the Cheney daughter remark. I don't think he was trying to embarress, just bad tact to bring family into it other than to compliment. He also disappointed me with Social Security. Bush didn't do much better, but at least he wants to change something! I think I will just write in my name on the ballot. I can do as good as them.
  20. You hurt my feelings! I may never post again,
  21. Hopefully it keeps some people from trying to make horses jump over things. Very dangerous sport - don't try it at home. He emphasized that the eggs need not be fertilized, is this true?
  22. The problem is that it is a recovery for SOME people. The middle class is getting squeezed more. It makes sense to cut off tax cuts for the wealthy. Inflation is caused by too much money for too little goods. I don't know if I agree with that as being a big problem, other than healthcare and energy. Greenspan needs to quit monkeying with the rates, he made the stock market crash worse and will slow the recovery. He needs to retire.
  23. It also brings up the fact that government can and has helped the economics of our country. Many think government can't do anything right and everything needs to be market based. I do think government is too big and needs to get smaller, but to say it can't do anything about the economy other than get out of the way is wrong. I think China is improving despite being communist. If it were not communist, they would engulf our economy easily.
