  1. ok i've got one, You've probably all heard it before, but anyway: A man is walking in the desert, he is captured by some local tribesmen. They take him to their king. The king says to the man: "you have a chance to say one sentence, it has to be true or false. If you say a true sentence I will kill you quickly,If you say a false sentence, I will kill you slowly." The man says one sentence, and the cheif has to let him go. Now I've heard many plausible answers to this riddle, all correct, and because of that I'm only going to accept the one I'm thinking of HEHEHE have fun with that one if you dont already know it!!!
  2. Ahh, I see That would make sense, lol
  3. One of my friends studying chemistry at university further explained the situation to me: You said antimony pentafluoride isn't an acid, but he believes (not having studied it intensely), that it IS a Lewis acid. However that is not relevant to this discussion. The reason it is not a normal acid is because it doesnt make H3O+ in water, thats where the acid loses a proton to water, and forms a conjugate base, I.E: {H2SO4 + H2O ----> H3O+ + HSO4-} The presence of H3O+ makes a solution acidic, in Antimony Pentafluoride though, the conjugate base is EXTREMELY stable, so you end up with free protons running round in solution - something that never usually happens, because they cant exist on their own so you end up with: {HF + SbF5 ------> SbF6- + H+}. I should also specify that HF is a liquid, and not aqueous Once again, I hope this explanation helps.
  4. Ahh well, complain to Guinness. There beer isn't too bad, but I guess they should get their facts right first!
  5. I can see both points to this discussion. Im sure though, that If a 1TB CD was made, it would be re recordable, I think it would be quite stupid for a disc that big in common manufacture is not re-recordable. I can almost guarantee that 90% of people who use a computer would not be able to fill a TB CD in 1, as is neccesary with all CD-R's and DVD-R's. In some cases I need smaller storage, and in others I need larger storage. Most of the people I know use MSN, and those who don't tend to have an email address. I'm still on dial up internet, (Bloody countryside!) But I find it no problem to send a 1.44mb file over the internet. Sure it may take me 10-20 minutes, but that's not a lot of time. I think floppy disks are becoming more and more extinct. My school has just got a new computer suite: P4 3.2Ghz, 512MB DDR330 ram and 80GB Hard drives. Not one of these computers has a floppy drive. (Maybe it's just that they're crap computers, but I do think that floppy will be completely gone in a few years) However, when some of my more fortunate friends who happen to be on broadband ~Cough BASTARDS Cough~ download things that I can not, often these amount to more than 10GB, and thus result in needing more than 1 DVD. In this case a 50GB DVD would be ideal, but in my opinion, CD's should be kept for those files that are a bit to big to send even on broadband, DVD's should be kept for those movies and files too big for CD's, and a larger DVD (Such as the Blu-ray) should be more widely available. And as for those people whining about 3MB files being too big to be sent by email on dial up: Put up with it, I have to!
  6. Hope this helps.
  7. Just checked, I'll quote from the Guiness Book of Records 2003: "Normal solutions of strong acids and alkalis tend towards pH values of 0 and 14 respectively, but this scale is inadequate for superacids, the strongest of which is an 80% solution of antimony pentafluoride in hydrofluoric acid (fluoro-antimonic acid). The acidity function of this solution has not been measured, but even a weaker 50% solution is 1,018 times more powerful than concentrated sulphuric acid" Now, that's not one I'd like to put my hand in!
  8. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the strongest acid is antimony pentafluoride.
  9. Put me in my place!
  10. Well, why not?
  11. I tried posting something about this a while ago, but no response, so I'll try again: Has anyone heard anything about octanitrocubane, I've read everything there is from the chicago university website, but have not been able to strain any more information out of the net. Im sure its there, just I can't be arsed to find it Also, I was wondering if it is possible for it to be synthesized. (By someone with access to a lab, obviously I'm aware I couldn't do it in my back garden, and I know it can be done with access to a lab like that of Chicago university, but is it possible for someone who works at say an upper (High) school chemistry lab to synthesize the marvel? Any replies to this post would be much appreciated Regards Ld
  12. Try using your potassium perchlorate to see how much energy is in chocolate Its always fun
  13. Thanks, I will do
  14. Also, If anyone can help on my formating problem aswell, I would be very appreciative. Oh, and its not as simple as re-installing windows with my windows XP Disks, as I never got any, (Bloody Budget computer) and still don't have any. All I have is the format disks, one cd drive and one knoppix CD. Regards,
  15. Has anyone heard of an os called knoppix/used it/is using it? My old computer really screwed up, and I partitioned the Hard Drive, but made the partitioned side without windows the primary one, and consequently, I can not format the hard drive, but thats another story. I have a copy of knoppix on disk, and my old computer only has one CD Drive, so I don't know how to install any disk software. If anyone can help on this, again, as always, it would be appreciated. Regards,
  16. Well thanks very much 5614, all your advice has been much appreciated, and I have installed Norton, and nothing was found, and the computer seems fine now. However, nevertheless, I will still scan with one/some of those sites, and I have been told by a friend that Adaware is a good anti-adware program, so I will install that. Thanks everyone, Regards,
  17. It turned out that after I left the computer on for about 7 hours, "My Computer" started, so the computer was running just F***ING Slow! In the end, despite all your help, I just ended up formatting, as I had very little on there that I still wanted/needed. Thanks nevertheless for all your help everyone regards,
  18. I would, however I have been trying to make it clear that I cant open anything! that means I cant open my browser, I cant open my dialler, I cant open anything.
  19. Yes I had tried to open an explorer window (My computer I assume?) Im running XP (Not 98, thats where explorer is from right?) I haven't installed any files recently, and I haven't edited any registries There is a high possibility that I have a virus from a website, It's a laptop without a floppy drive, and I havent used the D: drive in ages (Thats what i use my desktop for) I think I have a virus as I get those e-mails that say random quotes with an attachment like : Here's the cheats or: Something for you and Although I have never opened one of these files, I know that it is a virus, as I have also had them on my Hotmail account and McAffe picks them up as W.32 worms. However I'm pretty confident that they're on my computer because I got an automated delivery faliure response email the other day, and it showed me the message that "I" had sent, and it was one of the dodgy e-mails with the attachment. Im using Norton Antivirus 2004 pro (Yes I know everyone says its shite, but I haven't got round to getting any others) and It's fully updated, however it hasn't picked anything up, and they were up to date when the problem started (thismorning, was fine last night.)
  20. I tried to connect to the internet thismorning from my laptop, however, It was not successful The problem is that when I double click an icon nothing happens, I get the little sand timer cursor to show that its trying to do something, but then it goes back to the normal cursor and nothing happens. I tried opening things through the start menu (which I can still access) but the same thing happens. I can access the task manager with the normal method of Ctrl Alt Del, but not by right clicking the taskbar at the bottom. Once im In taskmanager I can open CMD (Command prompt) by pressing New Task, and typing cmd, however nothing else will open from this. The most important thing on my computer is my e-mail addresses from outlook, Even if someone knows somehow to open that before I format the computer this would be a major help, however I am scepticle, and I don't want to have to go out and be charged £100 for 2 hours work from some guy to tell me that the computer needs formatting, something i could have dome myself, without the bill. Any help as always would be much appreciated Regards,
  21. Yes, sure 5164, I have a couple of Kilograms in my garden, I'll post them to you first class, just send me your address.
  22. It was a mixture of sodium chlorate and sugar that someone gave me when i was about 8, that really first got me interested, especially when I couldn't light it with the normal flame of a match, but had to light it off the bright flare up at the start, and also when i couldnt put it out when i stood on it with a rubber wellington boot, and even more so when It wouldn't go out under water!
  23. Has anyone heard anything about Octanitrocubane? All I know about it is that It's one of the/the newest synthetic explosive, and is also the most powerful, yet it ranks among the most stable, you can hit it with a hammer and nothing happens. The interest was first in Cubane, which is also quite stable, but the thought was that its chemical offspring (Octanitrocubane) would be stable to shock, as it is. The carbon atoms naturally bond at 109 degrees, and they are sreched to 90 degrees, and many discreditors thought it would not be possible to make, as the bonding degrees would stretch it to breaking point, but the discreditors were wrong! Anyone know how to manufacture it??? Lol, if you do, go get a job at a government building, as this is virtually impossible!
  24. Don't you need Urea from urine to make (good Ol fashoned) gunpowder?
  25. Does NH4NO3 and Aluminium Powder make rocket fuel? I've been told its a powerful explosive but rocket fuel?? As an old friend of mine currently taking his masters degree at York university told me it made rocket fuel, and it's not like him to lie, but I have my doubts on this one. Also, can anyone tell me the ratio of NH4NO3 to Fuel I need in the preparation of ANFO's? Also what detonators should I use, as I have access to blasting caps, but I'm not sure what kind etc. and I would have to "Borrow" them if I did use them, so anything else is prefrible. Any posts appreciated Regards
