  1. Jump, from a really high place, with no means of safely decelerating.
  2. Great an insider incite, do you, the borg, consider yourselves a new life form?
  3. No problem and welcome to SFN, enjoy.
  4. It's called seasonal delay.
  5. Unfortunately my amp is down so I couldn’t hear your video but I personally, given that our foreseeable future is roughly the same as now, think, the ethical safeguards of the countries capable of this technology is such that the benefits outweigh the unknown, with at least one notable potential acceptation. Even then I struggle to think of a potential misuse, it is an old philosophical question, if such a captured consciousness is self aware/sentient then is it a new form of life?
  6. Almost certainly, I can’t conceive of a land vehicle needing such a power plant (unless I really am right).
  7. This whole idea is essentially the idea put forward in the 70’s of opposing gyroscopes to create lift, it didn’t work then and won’t work now, simply because the invoked force is only an apparent/fictitious force.
  8. Through evolution and their innate sense of style the Ferrari umpa lumpa lost the orange pigment in their skin, it clashed with the cars.
  9. That’s not so big, it’s all relative, those people are just the Ferrari umpa lumpa’s.
  10. Come on guys give the guy a chance. 27/01/1966 04:23 Stroud, Gloucestershire...
  11. Also, fictionalised and explored by Issac Assimov.
  12. The old adage of “more equals better” holds little weight, in this instance, as the weight (gross vehicle) determines the volume of air needed, IOW, any increased capacity would be wasted.
  13. My opinion is as stated in post #10; ‘swansont’ and ‘john cuthber’ put it far more eloquently and succinctly than I do but that’s all on page #1 of this thread.
  14. Maybe your surprise would be mitigated if you read the rest of this thread? If not, then I’d be surprised.
  15. An intriguing question, but one I fear will never be answered, panspermia is such an interesting hypothesis.
  16. Like any living creature, three needs must be met, to be active, so airborne microbes lack at least one need if in a vacuum.
  17. Any smooth surface will give very similar results, however, the relative smoothness of the surface is dependent on the size of the vehicle; for instance the passenger hovercraft could cope with reasonably choppy seas, with which a single person craft couldn’t possibly cope.
  18. I realise that a car was a poor example, as many racing/road cars employ ground effect to increase traction (but that doesn’t make it a GEV), a bike would have been a better. This from my link, for clarification... “A ground effect vehicle (GEV) is one that attains level flight near the surface of the Earth, making use of the aerodynamic interaction between the wings and the surface known as ground effect.”
  19. By that logic a car is also a ground effect vehicle.
  20. From a layman’s perspective this thread seems slightly bizarre; essentially we have scientists saying ‘I’m a scientist’ to which the philosopher replies ‘nope you’re a philosopher’. Seems a little like a chimp insisting humans are still chimps.
  21. You’d think a person of your experience would have, at least, read the thread before replying. Edit/ come to think how is it a ‘ground effect vehicle’?
  22. A healthy culture is an ever changing visceral process that evolves the same as a biological species. Unfortunately it feels like my culture has eyes only for the past, as a result, the process is heading towards stagnation. So for my culture a healthy dose of thrusting corporate influence would be just the tonic.
  23. Point made, I think, thanks ‘Moontanman’
  24. I was merely cautioning, logical reasoning must be treated with much care in an undertaking such as yours, and must be more carefully explained than mere reality based physical facts.
  25. Given that the Martians had equal access to these other civilisations what did the humans have that was unavailable to the myriad of other intelligences?
