Somehow, I wonder if what we call gravity might be the monopole CERN is in the process of looking for? If that were the case how would you explain the attractive property? Similar poles would repel each other and if there were a mix of N/S monopoles they would cancel each other out

A lot of the time these beliefs were wrong and got that person killed. I much prefer the idea of self belief - a belief in your own ability to cross the ocean in a tiny ship (or whatever) these are usually better grounded in reallity. It's a better idea to think you'll succeed because you know what you're doing than because you're "virtuous". I'd rather get on the plane with the skilled/experienced pilot than the virtuous newby What is belief in god if not submission? How is personal liberty/power affected? As for your work issues, you need to take it up with them...

Gravity has a "snowball" effect if you like
-
So by your own definition this is not proof, since it only works if you believe it's going to work. What you're describing is the placebo effect. Also, it's very "convenient" that what appear to be simple movements coupled with breathing (something I do very well) can only be done under the supervision of a "master", if thats the case, how did the "master" learn them?? Likely a "get out clause" in the event that I try it and fail to reproduce any effect

Which is why time is an issue - obviously if they stopped producing detectable signals 100000 years ago then we can't communicate with them. However, the equation deals only with their detection and therefore does not care whether we could communicate with them or not
-
Not necessarily, even if the universe had always existed in some form, there could well have been a big bang event as a start of its current state It does seem that when you go looking for the begining of the universe you end up chasing infinities...
-
fc = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space L = the length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space[3] The key is in the use of the word "detectable" If they are 3bn light years away, they won't be detectable by us
-
That's a start...
-
Not a great deal.... and no Maybe I will now though
-
+1 For learning!!
-
No, it's right here fc = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space L = the length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space[3]

Noah's ark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ln64DYflGT4 I think you'll find that this video is much more informative and factually accurate than the one you posted. Really?! Also, you mention fossils - Doesn't the bible say that there were no dinosaurs?
-
It still doesn't explain where it came from. So, the universe is here now and selected an appropriate past. If it selects its own past how/when did it get to the point of selection? It has to exist in order to select
-
Ok, so if this universe was created as a result of an event in another universe, what created that one? You'll come out with the same paradox in a different universe Looks like it's turtles all the way down I'm afraid
-
Me too! I have my fair share of crackpot idea's but at least I'm willing to listen and learn and I discuss my points fairly and not in a ridiculous way. If you prove me wrong, then I'm wrong (then I'll neg rep you! ) I enjoy talking to those people (I have often been the one who's putting forward some highly speculative material), I like to discuss idea's - Thats why we're here right?
-
Yes, but if they became known - then the equation may be useful I admit, they're not know and they're not likely to become known any time soon. So yes, completely useless
-
I'm not an engineer, Can it be done? What will the impact impulse tell me?
-
The equation is sound if the variables are known

"had answered all my questions it would have been easy for me to discard it and say they are talking rubbish." Just because science doesn't have all the answers, that does not make religion any more valid. "ensure that its knowledge is valid and genuine" What knowledge are you talking about? Religion has never offered any new information (other than untestable claims of an afterlife). "You don't deserve such knowledge from god if you think he doesn't deserve to be worshipped of and if you won't dedicate your life and surrender yourself to him." Why should anyone "surrender" to a god with no prior knowledge of him? Respect is mutual and earned. You do not know me, would you surrender yourself to me in return for promises of eternal life? Even without knowing if I would keep my promises? I have the advantage over a god, in that, you know that I exist so I don't even require you to make the leap of faith required for that "Science can not show me God, religion can." I suspect there's a good reason science can't show you god, science can't show me unicorns - LSD could. Is that a reason to take it? Google "god spot" research is being done to "show" you god http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&site=&q=god+spot&oq=god+spot&aq=f&aqi=g5g-s2g2g-m1&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=1997l3463l0l4727l8l7l0l0l0l0l296l1263l1.0.5l6l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&fp=43df0cd70b03fab&biw=747&bih=420 "Science doesn't seem like disproving the existence of god with its current attitude where as religion can prove his existence for the theists atleast...." Define "prove" - This falls short in my opinion "....if it can not prove it universally since not everyone seems to have the gift of faith." So, it can only be proved if you already believe? Again, not really proof. Once again, theists are not stupid and have had a long time to think this through. If religion was in anyway provable it would fall down. Any evidence or proof can be said to be "gods will" or "a test of your faith"
-
Any time that an advanced civilisation has encountered a less advanced one it has always been bad news for the latter... That said, wouldn't it be interesting if they were close enought to communicate with but far enough away to be harmless?
-
Wibbly wobbly timey wimey sums it up quite well
-
A: Judas would say that B: Jesus wasn't stupid, he knew he was screwed and used it to perpetuate the myth he created
-
Religion is a means of control: Without it how many suicide bombers do you think we would have seen? Belief in god is a cop out: Difficult questions easily answered
-
Cool, so I'm to be a wiccan then... If I'm going to believe in gods I want as many as possible while still being able to eat bacon and get reincarnated

You know that this is a science forum right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy Try to spot the difference and then ask your question in the relevant place
