A lot of the things you've mentioned would be considered luxuries (even by our standards a laptop is a luxury item). Plus where the hell am I going to plug it in?? I'm talking in the sense of necessary items - the bare minimum for survival.

OK here it is... The Egyptians were very clever people and although they did not have the maths to support their knowledge that does not mean they did not have the knowledge - skills passed down from generation to generation that worked very well, before people knew of gravity we did not float around in space - just because you cant describe it (mathematically) very well does not mean you cant understand it in some way or use it. Many ancient cultures were obsessed with the stars (they are amazing even to me, I stare at them at night) and this is understandable and can be seen throughout history. They tracked their movements and mapped them quite accurately, the fact that they lined up stuctures with them is not accidental or surprising. Here's my crazy idea from reading the above: What if everything was non profit? Eliminate money entirely. People work to produce the things that we need, but they are given to whoever needs them. This eliminates "sales companies". I'll use my line of work as an example: We sell network equipment, Cisco, HP etc... but in this model you dont need to "sell" anything so my company (and a lot of others) are no longer necessary as the "sales" process is redundant. This frees up all those people to share the workload for production, each person works about 3 hours a day doing something thats needs doing rather than just competing with another company trying to sell the same product into the same market. Could this ever work?

Have you never heard of a little thing called, oh I don't know...... relativity?? Relativity does not disallow time travel outright but it's certainly no proof that it's possible or ever will be. Time dilation is a localised slowing of the effects of time not time itself. Time is a measurement, trying to travel in time is like trying to travel in Celcius

The thing is... without any maths or measuring you just look at it and think "it's going to be 3" then it turns out it's off by .14, it's annoying.... But my point is: can the value of pi be altered by the bending/warping of space through expansion? The universe is roughly 14 billion years old and pi is roughly 14 points off 3 - could these be related? Again I am speculating my ass off here...

Hi all, What would you do to make society better? I've always thought it's crazy to pay footballers £1000's ( or more) every week to do something that A) They love, and B) Does not benefit society when the people that do benefit society are often underpaid - doctors and refuse collectors (without which we would be knee deep in filth and disease within a month) spring to mind What about fair distribution of wealth/work? "pi is determined by the metric of space" Exactly my point, a circle drawn on an irregular surface will have a slightly different value of pi. What if the expansion of the universe is changing the "metric of space"?

Just to reiterate - this is pure speculation. Pi has always annoyed me, 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510 is not sensible to my mind. Surely Pi should be 3? A nice rational number. Which made me wonder, with the expansion of the universe essentially stretching the fabric of space/time, could Pi be moving? What I maen is: in the early universe could Pi have been closer to my ideal 3? Any comments welcome as always...

Since the future doe not yet exist and the past is by definition "the past" - how could you travel to either? The only time you can exist in is the "present" Time travel makes very little sense for a lot of reasons, first answer the question "what is time?" and then, not only will you be well ahead of my understanding, you'll also see that "time" is not something you can mess with - it's more just a concept, a frame of reference to give things like motion some meaning

Yes, magnets are a nightmare to work with. I bought some VERY stong neodymium magnet a few months ago to expiriment with. They would frequently jump together with such force that they would catch bits of my skin between them and split it (I took to calling them "magnet bites"), if I was lucky enough to get out of the way they would either shatter or become very difficult to get them apart again.
