How do I show the triangle symbol using latex?
Acme replied to Chikis's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
Here's a whole library of Latex symbols. >> LaTeX:Symbols Big triangle: [math]\bigtriangleup ABC[/math]gives [math]\bigtriangleup ABC[/math] -
Mmmmmm... I guess screwballery knows no bounds. The hope for evidence-driven medicine and science takes a subfusc tone.

I presume you're joking. If British conservative is the same as American conservative, that's the group I would expect to embrace & promote astrology. In looking for a bit to post on Pres. Ronald Reagan and his wife using astrology in the White House (as well as Reagan legalizing it as a business when Governor of Cali.), I found instead a... erhm... well I'm not going to share what I found. Now I'm really depressed.

I believe they should be mandatory to teach life skills in school
Acme replied to Marshalscienceguy's topic in Politics
That's a coincidence, because your response seems the same to me. Perhaps if your schooling had been better than 'just about write my own name' level the grasp of my writing would not so easily evade you. Again you have failed to understood the OP. Marshalscienceguy is lamenting after the fact a particular deficit in his education. It is hindsight. Yes it was the question. Your failure to comprehend the value of education illustrates the importance of education. Moreover, your blaming lack of education on the student portrays ignorance and selfishness. -
The only thing not depressing here is to see America doesn't have a monopoly on folks round the twist.

I believe they should be mandatory to teach life skills in school
Acme replied to Marshalscienceguy's topic in Politics
That is all just so much drivel. The topic is not about you; it is about developing a future curriculum that takes into account shortfalls encountered in past curricula. . I would say 'not effectively taught in all schools'. See my post #5 for a link to state-by-state life-skills curricula in the US. -
I believe they should be mandatory to teach life skills in school
Acme replied to Marshalscienceguy's topic in Politics
No it's not all that's necessary. Awareness of the law and tax requirements including where to get required documents, when to file, records one is required to retain for supporting tax filings, and so on are part-and-parcel of filing taxes, and again these are not common sense things. Moreover, your opinion on what is or is not a life-skill is moot when we consider it was a young person that started this thread to express concern over what they were not taught. -
Are we biologically adapted to living in North America?
Acme replied to Anopsology's topic in Ecology and the Environment
So what's the bullshit part? The Reds involved (who were not Inuit) ran out of Vitamin C often enough and severely enough to be familiar with scurvy, to even have discovered a non-obvious remedy for scurvy, namely eating soup made of a particular kind of tree bark and needles. (The inland wintering Cree ate soup made from whole fish - not cleaned, not even scaled necessarily - for the extra nutrients). Obviously humans living in these large winter afflicted expanses of NA would benefit from being able to synthesize Vitamin C - do you disagree with that? The bullshit is your mincing of words and gross over-generalizations for which you give no evidence. You say: You go from 2 examples in Northern North America and extrapolate to the Vitamin C sources in 'large areas of NA' and 'temperate and boreal NA'. Not only do the 2 examples not apply in large or temperate and boreal NA, those 2 examples are not the only sources of Vitamin C in the North. You continue to ignore, and so effectively dismiss, the plants and customs that I and others have shown are and were extant in North America and utilized by the native populations over a period of at least 14,000 years. Your opinions are unsupported and worthless. Moreover, your continued use of a term that you have been repeatedly told is offensive here can have little qualification other than you intend to provoke people. You're just a regular mensch. -
Heard it, but didn't listen. Again, 'truly' is to words what jello is to a nail. The best you can hope for is to specifically name your fruits and vegetables, give scientific analyses of their contents and then do the same for the rest of the world and then scientifically compare the two groups effects on humans of all types and throughout millions of years. Even then, -if you could have done that- you would just find your nail in the wall and a puddle of goo below it on the floor.

An infusion is not 'eating bark'. With all due respect, bullshit. Raw meat and fish, as eaten by Inuit, supply vitamin C as well as -again- the fruits and vegetables that Native Americans dried and stored. Your unsupported arguments and assertions are worthless in regards to factual information and science. -
Are we biologically adapted to living in North America?
Acme replied to Anopsology's topic in Ecology and the Environment
NO; they did not 'end up' eating bark. You completely ignored my well referenced post #50 negating your earlier claim of 'bark eating'. Fruits were dried and stored for use throughout the year. Moreover fruits aren't the only source of Vitamin C, which I also documented. You continue making outlandish statements without a reference or shred of evidence. -

Why do we usually associate the paranormal with religion?
Acme replied to petrushka.googol's topic in Religion
source Note that ESP and fortune telling are sufficient for paranormality, but not necessary. Outside of the basic paranormality of god or gods (which is plenty enough to see why paranormality is associated with religion), the Catholics practice exorcisms, the Muslims believe in the Jinn, the Protestants talk in tongues, the Hindus worship idols, the Jains believe in Kevala Jnana, and the Jews have their golem. These are just singular examples of paranormality from each of the major religions and each has many others. This is not to say paranormality is exclusive to these religions or any religion at all. The premise of 'usually' in the title relegates the whole discussion to the WAG category. Can I get a 'yo Josiah' up in here? -

Acme replied to Marshalscienceguy's topic in Politics
No. The OP specifically mentions doing taxes -among other things- and doing taxes is not a common sense skill. You have missed the point entirely. -
You need to be a lot more specific inasmuch as heavy metals occur naturally in soils. Moreover, the danger of heavy metals as far as plants go is in many cases not because the plants uptake the metals, but because dust or soil particles containing the metals get on the surface of the produce.* *Toxic Heavy Metals in Farm Soil If you have concerns about the soil in a specific place, take a sample and get it tested. You can run, but you can't hide.

How do I show the underline when am solving equations?
Acme replied to Chikis's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
It's not clear to me where in your example you want the underline. (Must be because you can't make one, huh? ) Anyway, if it's only in posts and without Latex, then you can type in the BB code if your browser is uncooperative. First click on the Toggle switch in the upper left corner of the Editor; that puts you in text mode. Now suppose you want to underline c - 15 = 10. Type this: [u]c - 15 = 10[/u]to get this: c - 15 = 10 -
You're welcome of course.

Good point. Try contacting the manufacturer of the torch that just died and try and get some satisfaction before buying a new one. Plead, complain, or otherwise act as may fix you up without laying out more scratch.
