Many old sayings are very sensible, but some are out of date. Old saying: "Rome wasn't built in a day" Objection: Bloody obvious New saying: "Rome was built in a few decades." Reason: The town was founded in in about 650BC, and probably took a few decades before it reached any appreciable size. Old saying:" Pride comes before a fall" Objection: Not the case. New saying: "Not noticing an object you could trip over, comes before a fall" Reason: Experience of falling over, and reasons why it happened.
