Well, in my case, the more you see me, the better off I am. Alot of people don't respect a motorcycle, and even less see me on the road. If I'm putting off a red glow, you are going to see me from a mile away and say "WTF is that!??" I don't really like to see them on cars, but if the car is for show, cruising or whatever, cool. What I like to see is these fast and furious kiddies get neon lights, then go speeding around trying to race, and bottom the car out, crushing the lights. Also, neons do take a good bit of power, but in something like a herse, which I imagine has a v6 or larger, has plenty of wasted energy to spare. Just having an alternator on a belt drags on the engine, whether it is working or not. Fully loaded, it will not make much a difference overall.

I thought we covered that. Bush doesn't represent all the people, only the ones who agree with him, likely those who voted for him. I for one am of the opinion most people are idiots. However, I also do not think Gore would have been up for the past 4 years, I cannot say if we would be in better or worse condition, but I do not think Bush needs another. Hopefully the majority of people will agree. However, the thread evolved, partly due to myself, which I apoligize, into a gay rights thing. However, the seeds of the previous discussions were planted in your OP.

well, as my name implies, I drive a Suzuki DRZ 400S. It is a dual-sport motorcycle, can handle any terrain, and gets about 50mpg, 60 if I take it easy. I voted for "A socially and environmentally responsible car that was not bought specifically for ego-massaging or selfish interests" Because I travel 100 miles a day, 5 days a week. I need to bring nothing with me but myself, and a change of clothes. Since I began riding it, I've cut my gas bill to around 12 bucks a week. The only disadvantage one may find, is no cover from the elements. But, if your a hard core dirt biker such as myself, you've been gettin wet all your life, and doing it on the pavement is a walk in the park. yourdad, neons are cool, but you should check out LED's. If you were to make your own system, you'd save tons of cash, and could completly customize the casting of the light. I'll try to get a pic up of the red LED cluster I have on my bike sometime. I do intend on driving a datsun pickup in the near future, and if I can figure out this propane conversion, it may become my main vehicle.

LETS NOT FORGET A DICTIONARY SO WE CAN LOOK UP THE WORD THEORY IN A SCIENTIFIC CONTEXT I hate when ppl spew that crap about evolution being "just a theory". Making such a statement merely demonstrates your ignorance. The word theory, as it is used in "The theory of evolution" is much like "the theory of relativity". I don't see you discrediting the functionality of your television just becuase the priniciples used to build it are "Just a theory". Things are called theorys, because they are the most likely truth. If you can propose some alternate theory which better predicts then the old, then you can dispute the theory, if not, simply stating "Its just a theory" is wasting breath. Sure. But not everyone is convinced these "forces of love" are anything more then chemical reactions in the brain. edit: I didn't realize there was another page, I was reffering to the guest at the end of page one with my first comments.

There are such things as IP sniffers, try googling "Halo PC Hacks" to see what you can find. Chances are, its like has been mentioned and he was simply a host, maybe trying to give you a scare. I wouldn't worry with it to much though, as most ISP's nowadays aren't to friendly to the script kiddies who like the point and click hacking. A good router and firewall software will keep you safe.

I prefer zone alarm to let me know when someone/thing is connecting to my computer. I'm ole school, got me a whole aresenal of mIrc goodies that I can do alot of things to an IP. Anyhow, I've not had to much trouble with ZA, aside from it just not letting some of my programs work, like, messengers, for which I simply shutdown zone alarm.

slackware is pretty awesome, I've used both redhat and an older version of mandrake. I was pretty happy with mandrake, pretty user friendly, and I found the help to be pretty good. and, fyi, you can get any distribution of linux from http://www.linuxiso.org

How does your computer perform in general. I've seen computers that were really bogged down with low ram and lots of programs running on startup, perhaps spyware in the bg, that cause the mouse to jerk and become almost completly useless. Also, what kind of surface are you using your mouse on? Optical mice have the advantage of being used on any surface, but, if you use it on a glass desk, it can behave strange. As to the drivers, I got a $15 optical usb mouse (memorex I think), unplugged my old mouse, plugged in my new and never installed a thing. Depends on the OS of course, mine was XP.

Alot of these people who hear voices and talk to themselves walk the street constantly. Alot of them wear a robe, and read to a mass of people on sundays and wednesday. Infact, a good portion of the worlds religions would not exist if we locked up crazy people. If we would have been locking up crazy people who hear voices say, oh, 2000 years ago, we'd not really be having the problem of discriminating against gays. Anyhow, I think before you can compare being homosexual to a mental problem, you must first establish that homosexuality is a mental problem, and one that can be fixed via some treatment. I mean, how would you suggest treating homosexuality? Would you sit a gay man in a room full of playboys until he becomes aroused by on of the nude models? No, I highly doubt that homosexuality can be reduced to a mere mental problem. Perhaps it is, maybe we can make a pill to fix it. But then again, maybe it is the way nature intended it. I once heard one person suggest homosexuality as natures way of population control. Anyhow, I think you need to verify homosexuality as a mental problem. And, you still need to demonstrate how these people are taking away from your freedoms.

well, the time I was reffering to was the time it would take to lower the water to the point where the rods would be exposed. as to your other two questions, I do not know. As to the bbq lighter, you can put wires on it, although I'm not sure how far you can run it before it weakens the spark. If you just want a big bang, throw a spray paint can in a fire barrel and run like, really fast.

hmm, I would say the ppl that get paid big bucks to design aircraft to not crash into the ground would consider the unlikely event that an airplane could get struck by lighting. I imagine, much like being in a car, that it will not destroy the plain. It may fry some electrical circuits, but I can't see lighting rip the plain apart. Seems my guess is correct: http://www.usatoday.com/weather/resources/askjack/2003-05-06-lightning-airplanes_x.htm

I think it is only one nail that will rust, isn't it the positive? I've heard you can use the insides of a normal pencil, or the carbon rods inside regular c or d batteries instead of nails for this purpose, which should prevent the rust problem. Your idea sounds real similar to one I was reading about, http://www.scitoys.com/scitoys/scitoys/echem/echem.html#bomb Except for instead of an explosion, it simply squirts water in the air. Also, instead of relying on the positive and negative nails to cause the spark, (which could take sometime btw) it simply uses an electric igniter like those found in gas grills or electronic lighters.

mufflers are pretty interesting. If you have a spare one laying around, and perhaps a sawz all (saw zaw) cut it open and you will understand instantly. Anyhow, there is an inlet and outlet. The exhuast rushing in is hits walls placed within the muffler, some have screens, but the walls basicaly cause the exhaust gas to cycle around inside the muffler, then exiting at a slower rate. This slowing of the exhaust actually hinders engine performance, which is why more high performance mufflers, free flowing exhaust, is louder. It has less walls to slow down the exhaust, basically.

hey, as to the simple dc-ac inverter, a cheap disposable camera with a flash has such a thing. I got a couple a web link for ya; http://www.exo.net/~pauld/activities/camera_electronics.html tried some pics, but they are horrible.

My friends neighbors have a motion activated flood light. When I drive by, I set it off, unless I move quickly. We also have sensors on our auto doors at work that have to be adjusted every so often for sensitivity. Somehow they even have sensors that only respond to metal objects of a certain size. (BTW, can someone explain how this works? A metal can for instance, doesn't open the door, but something like a small cart will??) Anyhow, depending on what you want to do, a simply flood light would probably do the trick. You could go a step further, using the flood light, figure out someway to tap into the power, run it to a buzzer or something. a couple links google spit out: http://www.smarthome.com/outdoormotion.html http://www.safetycentral.com/homandbusals.html

This is precisely what got me involved. Not so much at the time of election, but after a few years when I noticed what a bone head he is.

just noticed the 2 posts of blah on the previous page, dug up some info cos his claim about the empire state building didn't seem correct. from http://www.space.com commenting on objects visible from space: I know the empire state building is some 1200 ft. It isn't even the tallest building. I mean, not to discredit the pyramids, they are awesome. National Geographic offers some interesting information: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/pyramids/pyramids.html

ya, I mean, how about the 24 hours chapels in las vegas an such??? John, true, but there is also a good portion of the population, like, uhm, pretty much anyone I ask that still finds the 2000 elections fishy. Its also kinda fishy to be talking about delaying the elections incase of terrorist threat.

Cryogenically Freezing Patients: Hope or Hoax?
drz replied to kenel's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
From what I've come to understand, it seems the soul, such as reffered to in the bible, is merely ones blood. I might can dig up some support for this if need be. Anyhow, the brain is a neat thing, which we still don't fully understand. It is said that things on the quantum level take place within the brain. Anyhow, much like if I unplug my computer, (assuming I turned it off properly) and months later plugged it back up, I would suspect all my data would remain. Everything that makes my computer what it is would remain. From the view that our brains our simply the most complex computer availible, I think one could perfectly expect to be yourself after being revived from the deep freeze. Kinda like the teleportation issue. Assuming teleportation is perfected to the point of sending humans, the original is destroyed, and the information is converted, sent, and rebuilt at the destination. The copy would have all of the original memorys, but would it be the same person? Also, what if the original was not destroyed? I guess we won't know until we bring someone back from the dead. It might end up like a resident evil/ Animator type scenario??? -
Whats the longest you have gone without sleep.
drz replied to bloodhound's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
I've been up close to 96 hours. I passed out shortly before the 96th, and slept for about 14 hours. I was doing vinyl siding installation in hilton head SC at the time, while living in North Carolina, some 600 mile drive. I was working in a resturaunt on the weekends. Had to make it to work by 8 am saturday, had put in 16 hours friday (woke up at 5 am, then drove home that evening. By the time I got there I decided to stay up instead of sleeping 2 or 3 hours. Worked saturday, got off work at 8:30 pm, met up with some friends, went camping. Ended up staying up all night drinking and, well, stuff, and decided to stay up sunday. Sunday was spent fishing, hanging out, etc. Was a total robot that evening. I had to leave for Hilton head around 11 pm to be there early in the morning, so I drove back, arrived at hilton head, worked about 8 hours, went to the hotel, ate, watched tv and passed out sometime monday night. I then overslept for work tuesday. Of recent, I haven't stayed up no more then about 36 hours, and I try to aviod that. On average though, I only sleep about 5 or 6 hours/day. -
Well, I've yet to see anyone demonstrate how a gay couple being married takes away from your rights in any way. Honestly, unless this can be demonstrated, there really isn't an arguement against it.

Linking parallel port with electronic equipments??
drz replied to TheBigDino's topic in Computer Science
There is a book out there, Easy Robot builders, or something, which teaches you all you need to know, diagrams and all the info for running things from the parallel port. I'll get ya an exact name of the book later, not handy right now. -
wow, its spreading like crazy

First of all, and I read your bs disclaimer, this is irrellevant. Whether it is wrong or not, it is not hurting you or anyone else, therefore, should not be illegal. Also, your definition of wrong is biased, as in, whatever the bible tells me. For that to be a defense, you must first explain to me why the bible is to be taken as a credible source of information. This cannot be done. Wrong. An alien would take away a potential job I, or another american citizen may posses. Seeing as how bush has made this legal, and how this is also unrelated, and yet another dodge at my and others questions, it doesn't merit much of a response. It may not make any sense to you, and, in the context of the bible, it doesn't make sense. However, not so many people hold to that decrepid document as the sole source of truth anymore. Others have found different truths for different problems. And while your final sentance is agreeable, it again has nothing to do with expressing emotion towards a person you love, regardless of sex.
