uhh, I have to admit I haven't been paying it as much attention as I should. I'm getting married oct 30, moving and quitting my job that following week. Things have been quite hectic in my lil world. I think its Virginia Foxx, uhh, Erskin Bowles, dude named Ballantine is running for governor against the current Mike Easley. There are several people running with Virgina, I can't remember them all right now. Basically, here in NC it comes down to who has the bigger bible, or atleast, who claims such

IBM has been working on a CPU called the CELL, which if memory serves is supposed to be used in the PS3. See: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/05/12/sony_ibm_cell/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/2001/03/12/sony_ibm_toshiba_team/ I'm not sure when the ps3 is expected to be released, but sony expects the ps2 to be a competing system until 2010 or so. They have already slimmed it up, they will soon offer a model that appears to be thinner then the original playstation.

I think 5614 is talking about Blue Ray discs, which are slated to replace the DVD. I could use a TB dvd, to think one could carry a library, a radio station, an arcade and theater on one cd is just mind boggling.

you know YT, thats a halfway good idea. However, with our special effects in movies, we should just make it appear we wasted them. Make some Hellboy looking super soldier come in a shred what looks like the ppl. THen they can fear our new soldier, and what he will do to them if they do not stop. And still put the womens on probation in South Carolina. oh ya, I'm the other other. -

Terrorism is as old as society. As long as their have been a group of prosperous people, and another group of not so prosperous people, we've been killing one another. I don't think there is an answer to defeating terrorism. All we can truly do is defend against it. Even if we someday conquer all of Al queda, there will be another group to take its place. -

This is faulty logic. If for not other reason then because they have already kidnapped, and beheaded people, and did not get their way. So they try it again, and again, and again. Its a catch 22, I understand what you mean in that "they see their method works", however, if their method does not work, they continue to try, try again. I think they should be released, however, not allowed in the middle east. Release them on some sort of probation, house arrest type thing, in like, South Carolina. -
Thats true, campaign commercials should be limited to focusing on the facts, not talking about how much worse someone else is then the other. Its crazy here in NC right now, we've got like 3 people running for senate, all whom claim to be conservative. A common commercial I've been seeing is talking about how Virginia Foxx isn't really a conservative, votes for gay marriage, supports radical enviromentalists (you know, people like me who say "Hey, we got to wake up and smell the global warming) and accuses her of being liberal. Then she turns around with an almost identical commercial to counteract it. Most of the political commercials focus on how horrible a person is, not the issues they stand for. When they do bring up issues, they focus on sensitive, and rather pointless topics such as gay marriage or abortion, which I believe are merely used to gather the support of the christian majority. I still say we need to put a homeless person in the presidential office. He's been at the bottom, and probably would have a much better idea of how to help, as opposed to someone who's been pampered all their life (most politicians).

right, It all comes down to driving while stupid. Get in a wreck cause your drinking and driving, stupid. Get in a wreck talking on a cell phone, putting on makeup, stupidity. And lets not forget the most extremely stupid thing I've seen on the road (next to drinking), reading a news paper WHILE DRIVING. When you get right down to it, all accident problems are a result of driving while stupid. Which is why it needs to be harder to get a drivers license.

but my point is that even if they are beyond using radio signals, using whatever method to communicate, the signals would still be bouncing around in space. I mean, hitler I think made the first television broadcast. We can pick it up this day, and hitler is long gone and the world is a very different place.

ya, all you do is get clear duct tape, to flat panel monitors, and tape one to your front, and one to the back. Now you need a camera displaying what is behind you on the front monitor, and what is in front on the rear. hide the cameras, wires, and uhh, other stuff, and you've got near invisibility. And using things like flexible LCDs, I don't think it will be long at all before we have invisible ppl running about. Maybe there is one behind me now. As to aliens, well, maybe the invisible guy behind me with monitors duct taped to himself is an alien!!

but one thing you didn't consider is that before they became so advanced they changed the laws of physics, they probably watched Tv and listend to radio. SETI is looking for these signals. For example, 1000 years from now mankind may be comunicating telepathicly, not using any radio waves. But our radio waves from our past would still be bouncing around the universe. And it is safe to assume that any advanced civilization learned how to use and manipulate radio frequencys long before unlocking the secrets of the universe.

points is basically a mechanical switch that powers the coil, which in turn powers the spark plug. The switch is operated by (depending on the vehicle) raised areas on the distributors shaft that open the switch. It is old technology, for instance, I have them on a 1976 datsun truck. Most Volkswagen Bugs have them, I'm sure several other old vehicles. Solid state is more up to times, using something like a timer circuit, set to power the coil at certain intervals. Points suck for several reasons. Leave your ignition on for like, 3 seconds, points go bad. Open your distributor cap on a rainy day, points go bad. Sometimes, points just go bad. I had looked into building my own ignition stuff once upon a time, but lack the time and knowledge, always burn myself with the soldering iron, etc. I know it can be done with a 555 timer, but figuring out the exact moment to "fire" would be the trick.

What would be so bad about Bill being president? He'd have no need to tax people for his own gain, nor start wars to get richer. However, I can see Bill making linux use a terrorist act. NM

I think we need to start using this "internet thing" a lil more contructively. Something like a forum, just like this, but with enough resources to host millions. Potential candidates could suggest new legislation, plans, problems etc and then we could actually talk to them. With the internet we actually have the potential to have a true democracy, where each of our opinions can be heard, and I'd like to see us take steps towards this. Pipe dream, but that would be cool. Hmm, how would GW and Kerry reach us without big business dollars. How about free websites, public access tv, or maybe, SPEND THEIR OWN MONEY! It is a shame it requires multiple millions to run for president. Just because you can access large funds should not give you the right. Honestly, I think tv networks should give airtime to each candidate, an equal amount of course.

could I use such a contraption to convert points style ignition into solid state? a cheap(er) kit of this nature would be a sure sell, least round these parts.

sorry, did not mean reading itself would be obsolete, but rather books. I mean, we've got e-paper now, internet, palm pilots, cell phones, software that converts text files into mp3's, it is only a matter of time before people quit picking up books. I mean, books are heavy. 1 good book could way 2 times more then a moderate laptop. This same laptop however, could contain hundreds of books. And while reading allows one to use his imagination, what if you imagine wrong? A book that included e-paper would be able to display various moments in a story, helping ones imagination. So, what will it be in 20 years? Carry heavy books to and from the library? Or carry a library on a sim card? and the relevance of this ranting, would be that the people coming up with all these new gadgets, e-paper, palms, etc, are Atari, coleco, and nintendo vets.

No. Only when you get caught! While I never tried to say it was a smart thing, i have to disagree with this. Drunk driving is extremely stupid, much more so then running from cops for sport. Also, check highway death statistics, I'll bet you find the most people die while sober, following the speed limits. Why? simple, there is more sober, law abiding citizen then there are drunk, speeding ones. If there wasn't why would we have law to begin with? But basically, since more people die from driving sober, I think we should also make this illegal, and conclude that driving responsibly and sober is also stupid. From what I understand about speed limits, they try to judge them for rather large, top heavy vehicles. If a semi can take a turn at 35 mph safely, so should any other vehicle. Although I think the speed limit should vary as well. For instance, it is not fair to force me to comply with a 35 mph corner speed limit, when I can easily, safely, and just damn smoothly come rolling through that same turn at 80mph on my bike, in a fractional portion of my lane. I'd even be willing to pay more for a high speed drivers license. Speed should be limited only at the ability of the driver and vehicle. A 1968 GMC pickup should not be allowed to go over 55mph, whereas a 04 Lancer Evolution should be allowed to travel over 55, within reason of course.

believe it or not, some people run from the cops just for the sport. Check out getaway in Stockholm if you haven't. Anyhow, there is a couple of rules to evading police. 1) If they've seen your tag, pull over 2) If not, find a curvy road 3) Maintain 90-100mph on curvy road. 4) find dark driveway Now, this only works when they get behind you, or if you pass one oncoming who decides to turn around. In the latter case, a quick check of math will tell you if it is possible. If you are traveling at say, 90 mph, a mile and 1/2 in a minute, and a cop see's you from the opposite lane, he must deccelerate, turn around, and reaccelerate to higher then 90 mph to catch you. Which can be done, which is why you get off the road asap, or increase to about 120, 130, and watch out for deer! It was fun when I was a teen, but I think I'm probably the last generation that can run from the cops the way we used to do. Nowadays, helicopters, night vision, and just the sheer number of cops make it a stupid decision to run.

if I knew how to fix everything thats messed up myself, I'd be running for president. I don't claim to know, and all I can tell you is what Kerry promised to do. However, I know what Kerry won't do, and thats is involve us in another useless war, that will cost thousands more american lives, countless more foriegn lives, waste resources that could be better spent fighting terrorism, not aquiring oil and big rebuilding contracts for haliburton. I like Kerry's stance on college, I like his stance on science issues, and in general I like a person who actually makes sensible statements when he speaks, as opposed to making up words like "misunderestimated"

Doug, this entire Forum thing is about people expressing their opinions. Sure it is an opinion. Thats a given. Anything that someone just spouts in a chat room or internet forum, or driving down the highway is an opinion. Sorry, didn't realise you needed a crayon map.
-
not to mention a well guided dremel tool can make a common 22 rifle automatic.
-
Well Doug, honestly, the statement is quite true. The Swift Boat veterans for truth group has been all but debunked. The only way one can truly hold such claims as true, is by ignoring the obvious facts. The only people that do this, are people that have done this. If stating the facts defines me as uncredible, then so I am. But what is sad is that you can find nothing else to dispute.
-
yes, but I do not, and neither does the vast majority of citizens. I, and I'm sure others, am afraid to take a stand against cops, because as you mentioned, unless your special your word is nothing. The fact that I'm treated less then human, my opinion is discredit simply because my lack of material possesions, and that I'm accusing an "honorable" cop, is sickening.
-
I still say reading is obsolete. Sure, it still has good uses, but the conventional old reading a book is about seen its days numbered. I can read just fine, and I've been playing games for years. Also, many games require you to be able to read to understand the game. Not to mention games challenge ones critical thinking, and can simulate situations of stress that one would likely never face in real life.

ahh, I'm getting tired of this same old played out issue. Pretend Kerry never had a purple heart. What do you have to gripe about. Also, you need to realise that purple heart is given to any soldier that is wounded in combat. THe only people saying kerry never saw combat, are people who never served with him. The Swift Vet boat of liars is comprised of several people, none of which, with the exception of Steven Gardener, served with kerry. The only complaints they have about Kerry is what he told the Senate and his protest of the war. However, simply serving in the military, being in a close vicinity of war, in my book qualifies as a hero. So I ask again, take away the medals, what did he do that was so bad? How about a soldier who never earned any medals? Is he suddenly a liar if he decides to run for president? Regardless, the only people who believe this swift boat of liars group, are people who blindly follow other things anyhow. Their claims have been completly debunked, trying looking through the politics section at http://www.snopes.com
