Are you sure? I am using Opera 8.5 and it works fine. Try refreshing the browser, I has happened to me a few times before, but now it is fine now.

Hi Guys, Ocular Networks is now officially launched, and its address have been migrated to http://www.ocularsci.com/ If you are interested in experiments and other aspects of applied science, please give it a try. We have finished most part of the forums and galleries, etc, and are at the moment writing experiment directions. Please take a look at it, and give me as much feedbacks as possible. Regards.
-
What is the other one, i would like to try it out too.
-
In fact, i did that just a week ago. HAHAHA
-
Yea, perhaps I can make it one of my biology experiments, which would be pretty cool. But focus of the site would skill on chemistry and physics, and some electronic technology.
-
Sounds pretty cool, but is it possible?
-
It's okay, just leave it as it is. Yea, perhaps the queries is a bit too much, but as long it does not cause a problem for the moment, it will be all right. Maybe when we have as many user as SF there will be a server problem, but I am planning a server migration to a good server that costs money anyways.
-
Thanks Jdurg, is it your site? And i would definitely make a link to your site because the purpose of Ocular is to increase public interest in science, and just hogging all the users isn't really sensable. LOL By the way, nice article, very detailed, although I have done it before. And I am wondering if it is possible to make some form of link between all the science sites, that way, there would be a lot more people, and each site can rely on one another at critical points.

It is quite a great host, great support and everything. And best of all, it is free! I am proud to be a member of the host.
-
I have just set made you two the admins... Have fun! If you are having problem logging into your administrator panel, that means that there is something wrong, just pm me either at SF or Ocular in that case.
-
yea, IntegraMOD is essentially a bunch of query-using modifications stuck together. But i wouldn't really care that much, as long as it is functional.
-
I would definitely love some forum management expertise! as you can see, there isn't any categories in the forums yet, so, the first step would be to create the forums. I will make both of you (RyanJ and Cap'n Refsmmat) admins tomorrow when i am at school... My home computer is slow as a turtois... ANd RyanJ, seriously, put cheers RyanJ in your signature. I can feel you pain of typing it every single time.
-
Wow, you serious, IPB used to be free? Any ways, if anyone wants to take a look at the current construction of Ocular Networks, you can go to http://www.ocular.co.nr ... as i said, i am a freebie, so i use .co.nr domain. As it is still under construction, the entrance requires prelaunch for username and access for password. And RyanJ, you can sign up now, and i will make you an administrator. It is still underconstruction, so please be a bit more gental when you care criticizing it.

I know, and I am such a freebie... the Entire site is done using phpBB. I know it is lame, but i works fine with me.

That is a good point, so I will include a warning for all the potential dangerous experiments so that children would not get hurt themselves. Also, I also need moderators and administrators, if anyone is interested, you can sign up at this thread, just include your email and name so that I can contact you. Maybe it is a better idea to have my site open first before i start recruiting for moderators, but oh well...

Guidelines will definitely be an important thing to consider. Explosive experiments will also be included (without the explisives, where comes the fun?) For those who request dangerous experiments, they are doing it in their own risk. Here is a list of thing that I do have: forum experiments knowledge base images albumn chat room etc. I am trying to immitate SFN as much as possible in terms of functions, but I do not want to duplicate it. By the way, it is called Ocular Networks, as it is through the ocular of microscopes and telescopes that scientists over the centuries have discovered what they know about the world. Any other suggestions?

I have just completed my website, and it will be launched on December 1st, 2005. It is sort of like a experiments community where people can share ideas about scientific experiments. Please give me some suggestions as to what sort of thing I should have on it, what types of topics, etc. The site is during its testing stage. I would like to create a scientific site that is fun, and can benefit everyone. And of course it would just be a waste of time to recreate another scienceforums.net. So guys, please give me some creative ideas.

We are already able to view the future! Think about it, we are traveling forward in time no matter what. There is no way we can stop it. For that reason, it would be impossible to travel forward in time. If we can reach the speed of light, the only thing we can do is travel back, then we will have no way of coming back. Unless you somehow halt yourself to an absolute stop, letting time pass by you, and then re-enter the present time.

When Nahco3 is dissolved, CO2 forms. And then if you dissolve in CaCl, a double displacement happens, forming CaHCO3, and NaCl.

The definition of precipitate is a salt (or anything else) that cannot be dissolved in water. The solubility of a substance is not decided by what group of element it is from. Sodium chloride dissolves easily, right?, now go home and dissolve potassium chloride. It is possible, but it takes much more water to dissolve the same ammount. Now, when you mix NaOH with Mg(NO3)2, there is no precipitation because all of the salt produced dissolved into the 4 drops of water. But when you mix NaOH and Ca(NO3)2, things become a little bit different becaue the product does not dissolve in water as easily as the previous one. Therefore, you've got precipitation. But if you add some more water to the product, you will see it disapear. The merely 4 drops of water gets saturated with only a little bit of the second salt.

As far as i know, those are the important ones.

The big bang theory is just a theory, not a fact. Although it is the best theory ever proposed, it is afterall still a theory, and being a theory, it cannot be proven (at least not for now). For the moment, they do not even know where the center of big bang is, so how could they estimate that that object they observed is too far away from the center? That just makes no sense. Big bang is an explosion, and just like any explosion, it is suppose to look different. Have you seen an explosion that is perfectly sperical? Guess not. So, there is always something farther than other things from the center. So, I don't think the discovery of sucy a celectial body will do much effect on the world recognized theory of Big Bang.

The thing is that you cannot use salt to boost the conductivity of the water. For electrolysis, sulfuric acid is often used. The green thing is the insoluable salt of copper chloride, or whatever metal you have for the electrodes. You have to use a unreactive metal for the electrodes. Otherwise, if you run it long enough, like a whole day or so, one of the electrodes would actually dispear. and you will see some green stuff condensed at the bottom. Sodium ions will combine with some of the oxygen from the decomposition and remain disolved in the water. An interesting thing is that you can do the same thing without electricity. Use a very strong magnet (like those super strong ones from the harddrive), It's going to do the exact samething. But you cannot see it as you do if you use electricty. If you leave it there for a night, the second day, you will see the water green.

Questions of Length, Distance, Direction, and Relativeness
brokenbin replied to E-motion's topic in Relativity
Distance is NOT relative. Distance is just a simple measurement, a quantity. In order to be considered relative, distance should be able to be described by the space-time diagrams. http://www.astro.ucla.edu/~wright/st_diags.htm When distance is connected with another quantity, time, then it is considered relative. But just by itself, it cannot be relative. -
whatever divides by zero gives infinite.
