Can i reduce zinc oxide with carbon powder ?? Well yes it is posible because i googled it but is it actuly posible for amature like myself ?? At what temp would the reaction start ?? Will the reaction give off enough Heat to continue the reaction like thermite eg can i have a mix of ZnO and C powder then just ignite with magnessium ribbon ?? The heat of the reaction will vapourise zinc produced ?? Any catalists that could help?? I am doing this to get zinc as the end product .is there an easier way to reduce ZnO ??? Thanx for any help

Earlier this week i went on a school tour and i was sitting in direct sunlight for 3 hours on the school bus yet i wasnt sunburnt at all ?? I was wondering if UV radiation can pass through glass ??? If not then why?? Does it pass through water(i have been burnt wile swimming)?? Does infra red radiation pass through water or does it just get absorbed ?? P.S I live in south africa 3 hours of light is more than enough to get seriously burnt even now during winter!!! P.P.S thnx in advance

i have made thermite using Al and Fe2O3 and it worked beautifully but i wonder... Could i use iron chloride as the oxidising agent instead of iron oxide ?? Will this work and if so how will it be different from Fe2O3 ? Will it ignite with the same amount of heat? Will it give off the same amount of energy ? Will the colour be different ? Again, in Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" he states that he created a mathematical theorem that incorperated "imaginary" numbers to descible the possible expansion of the universe. The differance between "real" and "imaginary" numbers is that when one squares a real number, the result will always be positive(2*2 = 4 and -2*-2 = 4) but with imaginary numbers; the square is always negative. Hawking uses a variable to explain this(eg. "i") (i*i = -1 and 2i * 2i = -4 and so on). Please will someone explain the mathematics behind this.

I know this is a physics question but the answer is mathematical. In Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" he says that there is an equation that explains how a particle will not look the same if one rotates it 360 degrees but it will look the same if it is rotated 720 degrees. Can anyone explain this equation?

ok i have never done this before (because im 15 and a lazy bum that thinks chemistry is awesome) so bare with me and pls correcrt me !! 1 mol H2O2 = (2x 1.0079 amu)hydrogen + (2x 15.999 amu)Oxygen=34.0138 grams therefore for every 34.0138 g H2O2->18.015g H2O+ 15.9988g O2 So for a 50 % conc(by weight???)H2O2 (50%x 18.015)H2O + (50%x 34.0138)H2O2-> 18.015g H2O +(50%x15.9988) 7.9994g O2 therefore(50%) 26.014g H2O2-> 18.015g H2O + 7.9994g O2 I want to check the gas laws Quickly and see if i can work out the volume per mol O2 let me Know if the above is correct !! thnx !!
