i need some help. my friend is paying for a domain from godaddy.com we want to host forums on it. right now we are just going for anything, hes thinking about buying better stuff later. i was thinking of learning to install and use this one http://www.phpbb.com it mentions "your choice of MySQL, MS-SQL, PostgreSQL or Access/ODBC database servers" and i found this in the account management area of the domain we purchased: # of SQL Server Databases: 0 Setup of 1 Available # of MySQL Databases: 0 Setup of 25 Available what do i need to set up to get it to work? it asks me if i want to use "DSN" but i dont know what that is, much less if i want to use it or not. -the lost one

cutting to the chase.... id like to take the picture here: http://www.norcalmafia.com/ and have the red part fade to black and back again. what would be the easiest way to do this and have the animation show up as my background?

is there a way to get a background that changes on win xp? can you just use an animated gif or something? would it suck up a lot of resources?

you're underestimating my geekiness. the reason for using these is not just because they are free, but because then i get the satisfaction of having used harddrive motors to make some fun toy. any fun toy. any creation using some other kind of motor would simply not be as cool as if i used harddrive motors. also, im confused about the physics behind the torque part of it. if i gear it down enough so it can move the car shouldnt it reach about the same speed as if i used it for an airplane? basically, isnt the motor capable of the same output no matter how its applied, and it just needs to be set up in such a way to take advantage of its strengths?

also, im curious what my limitations are going to be... i know they will go plenty fast for my purposes (7200 rpms is more than enough) but im guessing that comes along with being fairly weak. would 4 of these be able to give a RC car any kind of respectable acceleration?

ok.... i have several of the circuit boards from the back of the harddrives, im sure i can find a way to work with that... maybe. also, in the past, with ones i didnt care about, i have touched it with 9 volts dc and it definately spins. due to the way i set it up i could only touch it for a second, what would happen if i kept contact? actually, that may have been one with 4 contacts... not sure

ive been taking apart old harddrives and now have several of the motors used to spin the disks. id like to play around with them and im curious how to do it without burning them out. they all have three electrical contacts, so i need to know what each of the contacts are, so i know how to wire it, and what voltage i need to use. can anyone help me out?

im sorry, i dont know the difference between the two or how to tell... i do have a mic, ill try that. isnt that distracting? i always find it very difficult to speak when my speakers play what i said a half second later.

while im no expert im inclined to seriously doubt that. im sure gas can be plenty lethal if you get the right kind.

havent tried it, although thats another thing... in the past when i switched it to headphones that would work fine, but then when i switch back to speakers i have to restart my comp before it will make any noise.

i cant figure out the name of this song i keep hearing on the radio. some of the lyrics are below: "you dont know me but youd like to, why do you think i stood beside you" its a rap song... typing the lyrics into google has yet to yield results..... anyone know the song?

i dont know if this is in the right catagory, move it if its not... why do we find our own smells less offensive than other peoples? i can understand to the extent of not being able to smell it as much as other people when its something like BO, but other smells, like flatulence.... why are we generally less disgusted by the smells of our own creation than that of other people?

stereo doesnt have the endless supply of music my computer has. you gotta switch out cds and tapes and thats just way to much trouble. not looking for alternatives, looking for solutions to the problem. and yes, i normally have the sound off on wc3, when i stop winamp and turn on wc3 sound that too is staticy

i usually listen to music while playing video games on my computer. recently doing both at the same time sometimes results in a lot of static in the music. if i shut down both winamp and warcraft 3 and start them back up again the problem goes away. normally i would think its a lack of resources, like im just pushing my computer too hard, but it only started recently and ive been doing this for a long time. also, my computer is a p4 2.8 ghz, something like 800mhz fsb, 1g 2700 ram, plenty of harddrive space, really good graphics card, and a decent sound card. so it should be more than capable of doing a game like WC3, and a media player at the same time. the only thing i can think of that has changed between when i had the problem and when i didnt is that i added another user to the system. i thought it might be sucking down resources or causing some kind of conflict, but the problem persists whether the other user is still logged in or not. any ideas?

it means hes never posted in any of the forums whos posts show up on the front page. the ones that are considered truely scientific. just ones like general discussion, brainteasers, news, psuedoscience(?) etc. in his case, nothing but GD.

maybe im just stupid, but i dont get it.

three cheers for arguing stuff that doesnt matter! the question has been answered from the science perspective, and since i dont see this in the brainteasers section, i dont think all the semantics matter. if air is passing over the wings it has lift, otherwise it doesnt, regardless of the planes position with the ground. question answered, yes?
